There were some offbeat trailers released this week, including one for 'What Happened, Miss Simone?', a documentary about the iconic musician Nina Simone, who off-stage was a courageous civil rights activist. The movie, by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Liz Garbus (Bobby Fischer Against the World), features rare footage and insightful interviews with Simone, her family and friends. Netflix is releasing it in June. Watch the trailer for 'What Happened, Miss Simone?'

The documentary 'The Look of Silence' is a companion piece to filmmaker Joshua Oppenheimer's award-winning 2012 doc 'The Act of Killing', about the brutal revolution in Indonesia in the mid-1960s. This film takes an even more personal approach, investigating a single death by interviewing a series of eyewitnesses, including the killer. It has won awards on the festival circuit, and opens in June in the UK and July in the US. Watch the trailer for 'The Look of Silence'.

And the American independent comedy-drama 'Tangerine' released its first trailer this week, a red-band teaser for the story of a transgender prostitute who, on the day she's released from prison, goes on a rampage when she learns that her pimp has been cheating on her. It looks pretty outrageous: sassy, funny and very full-on. It opens in America in July. Watch the trailer for 'Tangerine'.
