We probably shouldn't read too much into Netflix's Emmy snub - its shows were up against stronger competition. Oh, and they have a new ad.
Netflix probably didn't have any deserved winners of major Emmy awards on Monday night (August 25, 2014). 'House of Cards' - which is fast becoming pure, unadulterated fun more than anything else - was never going to beat 'Breaking Bad' in the outstanding drama category and although 'Modern Family' was the surprise winner of best comedy, 'Orange is the New Black' still had to beat the far superior 'Veep'. Still, it must have felt like two steps back for executives at the streaming service, which has poured cash into quality original content in recent years.

Nevertheless, the future is bright for Netflix and a glossy new ad featuring Ricky Gervais confirms just how far the service has grown to effectively become ingrained in modern culture. The clip opens with Gervais lounging around in front of the television, musing, "You know when you're watching your favorite Netflix show and after five straight episodes, you want to be in it?"

We're then taken to the familiar Oval Office for Netflix's 'House of Cards'. But that's not Frank Underwood with his back to the camera - it's Gervais. "A heartbeat away from the presidency and not a single vote cast in my name. Democracy is so overrated," says the British star, doing his best Kevin Spacey impression. Carver is not impressed.
Taylor Schilling in 'Orange is the New Black'
After a quick stop on the set of 'Lilyhammer', we're in the women's federal prison from 'Orange is the New Black', with Gervais - in orange jumpsuit - asking, "Sometimes you even think - I wonder if I could make it in prison?" After a spat with Crazy Eyes herself, the actor asserts, "See, that's what got you in here in the first place - attitude".
"Maybe I'm better off just watching," Gervais decides.
More: will Netflix's new pricing plan affect you?
With House of Cards season 3 expected for release in February 2015, new Orange is the New Black set for June 2015 and new original dramas in the works like 'Marco Polo' and 'Daredevil' - forget the Emmys - the future's bright for Netflix.
