Rihanna is reportedly following up her 2012 album Unapologetic with a concept album for an animated film, Home. This is according to Dreamworks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg, who revealed the news in a conference call announcing the studio’s fourth-quarter and 2013 year-end results, Variety report.

“In addition to her starring role, Rihanna will record the score for the movie and release an original concept album with songs from the film,” Katzenberg said. Rihanna will voice the main protagonist, Gratuity ‘Tip’ Tucci, in the film, and will likely perform some of the songs on the album within the movie itself. Big Bang Theory actor Jim Parsons, Jennifer Lopez and Steve Martin also star.

“Home,” formerly known as “Happy Smekday!,” is based on Adam Rex’s book “The True Meaning of Smekday” and features the voices of Rihanna, Jim Parsons, Jennifer Lopez and Steve Martin. The film’s scant synopsis on IMDB, says: “A group of aliens seek refuge from their enemies by hiding out on Earth.” It is being directed by Tim Johnson, who was behind the camera for “Antz,” “Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas” and “Over the Hedge.”

Despite constantly being in the news for revealing criminals in Thailand, hanging out with Chris Brown or posting pictures of drugs on Instagram, Rihanna has been quiet musically, and this soundtrack for Home will represent her first meaningful output since late 2012.

DreamWorks will be hoping to hit back and re-stamp their authority in the animated film market following Warner Bros’ success with The Lego movie, which stunned both critics and fans on the way to a big global box office gross, and the subsequent announcement of a sequel.
