After weeks of speculation, it seems that Rita Ora has finally jumped ship from the BBC to ITV, according to insiders, and will be taking up a place on the judging panel of ‘The X Factor’, abandoning ‘The Voice’ in the process after just one year.

The Mirror reports that the 24 year old pop star has accepted the fourth and final judges’ spot, a week after it was suggested that she had been offered £1.5 million to replace the departing Mel B for the 2015 edition.

She has, of course, previously been a guest judge on the ITV reality talent show, filling in for one week at the beginning of the ninth season in 2012 as part of a rotating cast until Nicole Scherzinger was brought in to fill the gap permanently that had been vacated by Kelly Rowland.

The full judges line-up for the forthcoming twelfth season of ‘The X Factor’ will be Simon Cowell, Cheryl Cole, Nick Grimshaw and Rita Ora, if all the reports are true. Grimshaw was recently confirmed as taking up the vacancy left by the departing Louis Walsh, who had been an ever-present on the panel since its inception in 2004.

BBC insiders are reportedly extremely disappointed with this revelation, after Ora had been partly credited with a boost in ratings for ‘The Voice’ last season. The format had been struggling in terms of credibility and viewers in comparison to ‘The X Factor’, but with its fourth season had finally produced a winner capable of an actual chart hit: 2015’s winner Stevie McCrorie scored a UK #6 single ‘Lost Stars’, a cover of a song by Maroon 5’s Adam Levine, in April.

An unnamed BBC source apparently told The Mirror: “It is really disappointing. Rita seems to have chosen cash over credibility. As far as we are concerned this smacks of Simon Cowell being desperate to revive an ailing X Factor that has been beaten by ‘Strictly [Come Dancing]’ for years in terms of success.”

An insider on ‘The Voice’ itself said: “We wish Rita well but are sorry she feels she has to go. We saw the potential in her first and now Cowell is coming in and stealing her away.”

Well, many have made the jump from the BBC to ITV in years gone by. Ora’s decision bears some similarity to the one that Alesha Dixon made in 2012 when she switched reality formats, leaving ‘Strictly’ for ‘Britain’s Got Talent’.
