Production on Robert De Niro and Robert Pattinson's 'Idol's Eye' has been shut down.

The heist thriller, which was to star De Niro, Pattinson and 'The Mummy' actress Rachel Weisz, has ceased production just days before filming was set to commence in Toronto, Canada.

The movie's production company, Benaroya Pictures said in a statement: ''Due to the criteria for financing not being met by producers, Benaroya Pictures has formally decided to discontinue financing the motion pictured titled 'Idol's Eye'.''

The film was to be directed by film maker Oliver Assaya, following on from his Cannes Film Festival entry 'Clouds of Sils Maria', which starred Juliette Binoche and Pattinson's 'Twilight' co-star and former girlfriend Kristen Stewart.

Benaroya Pictures boarded the project as producer and financer earlier this year, shortly after De Niro had signed on to star.

Shooting for 'Idol's Eye' was originally scheduled to begin last month in Chicago and Toronto but Benaroya Pictures - who have previously made films including 'Margin Call', 'Kill Your Darlings' and the upcoming Pattinson co-starring 'Queen of the Desert - claim they were forced to shut down production after other producers failed to meet financing deadlines.
