Robin Wright Explains How She Beat Gender Pay Gap On 'House Of Cards'

Robin Wright Kevin Spacey

So many female celebrities are speaking out against the gender pay gap in Hollywood, but how many of them are trying to make damn sure they don't become a victim of such sexism? 'House Of Cards' star Robin Wright put her foot down when it came to negotiating her pay to match co-star Kevin Spacey.

Robin WrightRobin Wright fought for her right to equal pay

How did she do it? Well, you might be interested to know that no disputes were involved, no lawsuit and no blackmail... well, almost no blackmail. In an interview with the Rockefeller Foundation, Wright revealed how she responded when she learned that Spacey was earning $500,000 per episode compared to her admittedly not-so-measly $420,000.

Well Done, Internet, You've Dealt With House Of Cards Spoilers Well

Kate Mara Kevin Spacey Robin Wright Netflix

We’ve come a long way since spoiling the end of The Sixth Sense was the worst thing someone could do. Nowadays, there are millions of ways to ruin plots, deaths and endings, and as a result we’ve become hypersensitive, syphoning genuine rage towards those who let slip that Lost was all a dream. Whoops.

House of Cards season 2Do these two come to loggerheads? Well, watch it and find out!

I haven’t seen the Sixth Sense, and I don’t have to – I know everything that happens in that film. During my first watch of The Sopranos, I’d close my eyes while walking through any shop that sold DVDs in case I caught sight of the complete boxset. One day I did, and I knew that every character on that boxset made it to the final series. I cried.

A Matter Of National Importance - Don't Spoil 'House Of Cards' Season 2!

Kevin Spacey Robin Wright

House of Cards lost at last year’s Emmys (apart from Robin Wright’s well-deserved award), but it’s receiving all kinds of accolades ahead of the Season 2 Netflix premiere. On Thursday Kevin Spacey, Robin Wright and the rest of the cast took to the red carpet at a special screening, held by the Director’s Guild of America. Love was in the air – love for the show that is. Looking equally as stunning on the red carpet, co-stars Robin Wright Penn and Kate Mara both made fashionable entrances – Wright in a simple, but elegant black dress and Mara in an uber trendy green mini. Kevin Spacey, looking dapper as ever, was also in attendance.

While the cast, the production team and a handful of lucky guests got to preview the second season, other fans of the series were getting increasingly restless. As it turns out, one of those fans was President Obama himself. The Commander-in-chief took to Twitter on Thursday, to send the following message: “Tomorrow: @HouseOfCards. No spoilers, please.”

Kevin Spacey Robin Wright

Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) returns in three tension-filled promos for Season 2 of the hit Netflix series House of Cards. The clips see the scheming congressman deliver some of his best lines in classic style (which is to say, with a lot of style): "For those of us climbing to the top of the food chain, there can be no mercy” is just one of his memorable nuggets of wisdom.

Kevin Spacey, House of Cards
Welcome back, Congressman Underwood. We've missed you.

Fortunately for fans, House of Cards isn’t pulling a Game of Thrones and releasing the promos months in advance. The show’s second season will debut on Netflix this Friday (Valentine’s Day, how appropriate) and will be available for instant downloading and binge viewing in its entirety.

What We Like About The House Of Cards Season 2 Trailer

Kevin Spacey Robin Wright

We were pretty excited to see the new House of Cards trailer hit, and not just because we can stream it on glorious 4K. No: there’s a certain ruggedness about season 2, and we can’t wait to see Frank Underwood - played by Kevin Spacey - step up his ruthless decimation of the U.S political hierarchy.

Netflix

Netflix says the drama – based on a 1990 BBC series set in London – "slithers through the back halls of greed, sex, love and corruption in modern Washington DC." Before we carry on, though; here’s a brief recap of season 1.

A year after the entire House of Cards season one appeared on Netflix we're getting set to devour season two with the kind of ruthless appetite for more that Frank Underwood would be proud of. The brilliant 13-part first season set the scene for house majority whip Frank Underwood's game-playing ascension to the Vice Presidency just as some of Washington's darkest secrets were beginning to be unearthed by Zoe Barnes and her team.

The Emmy Awards 2013: Who's Deserving In The Outstanding Drama, Lead Actress & Actor Category?

Bryan Cranston Kerry Washington Elisabeth Moss Aaron Paul Kevin Spacey Game Of Thrones Damian Lewis Robin Wright

This year 'smart' dramas Homeland, Mad Men and Breaking Bad dominate the Primetime Emmy Award nominations yet again and even for fans of the TV shows, it will be hard to predict which of their favourite series will carry off the most gongs. The Hollywood Reporter's Stacey Wilson highlights just how highly contested this year's 'best drama' category is: "If you win this year, it's going to be a real feather," she said to ABC News. The nominees list for each category is decidedly hefty but we've identified the ones that are toughest to call.

Bryan Cranston
Bryan Cranston Voted Best Actor?

Having never won an 'outstanding drama' Emmy before, it looks like Breaking Bad could finally scoop the big gong this year having picked up five Primetime Emmy's before; 3 'best actors' for Bryan Cranston, 2 'best supporting actors' for Aaron Paul. With the first half of its final season currently airing, it looks like this could be the last chance for the show, as popular as ever, to scoop the night's biggest award. Downton Abbey, whilst having previously looked strong, has endured harsh reviews in its third season meaning it will be interesting to see whether this has had any impact on the voters.

Sean Penn Marriage Interview: “What The F*** Was I Doing?” Asks Gangster Squad Actor

Sean Penn Robin Wright

Sean Penn’s marriage to Robin Wright broke down almost three years ago. In an interview with Esquire magazine, Penn reveals that he doesn’t feel as though he’s ever been loved by someone. “As I look back over my life in romance, I don't feel I've ever had that,” he says. “I have been the only one that was unaware of the fraud in a few of these circumstances blindly.”

Talking about his divorce, which made headline news at the time that he and Robin split, he says “When you get divorced, all the truths that come out, you sit there and you go, What the fuck was I doing? What was I doing believing that this person was invested in this way? Which is a fantastically strong humiliation in the best sense. It can make somebody very bitter and very hard and closed off, but I find it does the opposite to me.”

Well, Penn might reckon that he’s not bitter but he’s still got a pretty caustic tongue in his head. In an audio excerpt from the interview, Sean can be heard saying “the biggest thing that frustrates me in the world, is, I just wanna say to everybody, you know that thing above your neck? It’s not decoration. You have to use it. You’re supposed to f***ing use it… I don’t care about the heart. The heart is in the brain. That’s not less emotional, that’s not less romantic.” Wow. Valentine’s day must be a real blast with you, eh, Sean?

Is A 'Princess Bride' Sequel On The Cards?

Rob Reiner William Goldman Robin Wright Billy Crystal

Twenty five years later, the cast and crew of 'The Princess Bride' reunited at the New York Film Festival this week to promote the Blu-ray release of the classic romantic-comedy. They were all there - Billy Crystal, Robin Wright, Rob Reiner, William Goldman, Mandy Patinkin, Cary Elwes - but the gathered press pack were only concerned with one thing: would there be a sequel?

Goldman, 81, who wrote the 1973 novel and the screenplay for the movie confessed that developing a sequel had been on his mind for years, telling the Los Angeles Times, "I'm desperate to make it and write it and I don't know how.I would love to make it, more than anything else I've not written." In a humorous Q&A session at the Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall, the cast and crew quoted key scenes from the movie, and director Reiner spoke of how he got involved in the project in the first place, revealing that Goldman had approached him after Robert Redford, Francois Truffaut and Norman Jewison had tried and failed to make the movie. "He looked at me with the eyes of, 'What are you gonna do to it?" said the filmmaker, revealing that it was his knack for comedy (This Is Spinal Tap) that helped win over Goldman. A classic fairy tale, 'The Princess Bride' has everything, swordplay, an evil prince, giants, and of course a beautiful princess. So would a sequel be realistic?

Reiner has been relatively active as a filmmaker in recent years, though Goldman hasn't written anything of note since 2003's 'Dreamcatcher,' starring Morgan Freeman. We're sure Crystal, Wright and the gang would be up for another movie, so watch this space!

Video - Rooney Mara's New Dramatic Image - The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo New York Premiere Arrivals Part 2

The New York premiere of 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo' was held at the Ziegfeld Theater recently and all eyes were on Rooney Mara, who plays the titular girl, Lisbeth Salander. She looked very striking; a far cry from her usual feminine image as seen in 2009's The Social Network.

Robin Wright followed Rooney onto the red carpet shortly afterwards, as did the star of the film, Daniel Craig, who plays protagonist Mikael Blomkvist
