Sir Elton John Is The Perfect Recipient For The First Ever Brit Icon Award

Elton John Rod Stewart

Sir Elton John was awarded with the inaugural Brit Icon award for having a 'lasting impact' on British Culture. The British legend marked this award by performing at London's Palladium theatre last night which also marked his return to the stage after undergoing surgery to remove his appendix.

According to the BBC, Rod Stewart was the one who presented the prize to Sir Elton and described him as "the second best rock singer ever". Stewart was among a long list of a-list stars to congratulate Sir Elton at the venue as the likes of Liz Hurley, Lulu and Gary Barlow were in attendance, with Gary tweeting "Just watched Elton John talk and perform for 2hours at the Palladium ! Inspirational ! #britsiconaward".

Sir Elton, now fully recovered from the surgery, played his greatest hits' set and according to NME Rod Stewart joined him towards the end and performed in a duet which included the hits "Sad Songs (Say So Much)' and songs from John's album 'Breaking Hearts'.

There's a new award in town, one that honours those musicians who have made the greatest, most lasting contribution to music in the modern era; the Brits Icon Award. The first ever Icon to be handed out was done so during a spectacular and star-studded show at London's Palladium Theatre, during which the first honouree of the coveted award played a hit-filled set to his adoring peers. That person; Sir Elton John.

The gala concert, his first since undergoing surgery for appendicitis earlier this year, saw Elton presented the award by his friend Rod Stewart in front of a celebrity-filled audience that also included Liz Hurley, Lulu, former-President Bill Clinton, Ringo Starr, Gary Barlow and many more. The singing icon received a standing ovation as he took to the stage to collect his award, having been introduced by Stewart, who cheekily referred to the man of the hour as "the second-best rock singer ever."

Could Rod Stewart Make A Better Rolling Stone Than Mick Jagger?

Rod Stewart Rolling Stones Mick Jagger

The Rolling Stones might have gotten a roaring reception at Glastonbury last weekend, but Rod Stewart thinks it could have been better. Specifinally, with him fronting. Or rather, Stewart is apparently thinking of drafting Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood for his own band, The Faces, should Jagger ever decide to hang up his mic. In a recent RadioTimes interview, the singer said: “I’d like to return with The Faces. Ronnie and I talk about it, and when the Stones finish – Mick is several years older than me – we’ll have a window of opportunity, if we’re not on Zimmers.”

Rod Stewart, The RDS
At 68, the singer isn't stopping anytime soon.

Stewart sounds like he’s pulling everyone’s leg with this one, but of course, you never know. For now though, the Stones are going strong, Jagger included. So the chances of Stewart replacing him? Slim to none. Yet the singer thinks his talent definitely gives him a bit of an edge: “Mick’s a fine blues singer – but technically not as good as me,” he commented. “He’s made the best of what he’s got. But I don’t think he could do standards – he may not want to.”

Rod Stewart: Modern Men Dress "Like Tramps"

Rod Stewart Mick Jagger Tom Jones

Rod Stewart's been in the press for a lot of odd things recently; firstly there was the secrecy surrounding his model train set that the BBC weren't allowed to see, then his voiced puzzlement at never been knighted and bizarrely, his supposed rejection of a threesome with Mick Jagger. Now, he's been reported by Radio Times to have branded modern men as "tramps" in the way they dress.

Rod Stewart
Rod Stewart: Clearly Still Got It But Is He Still With It?

There was a tinge of wistful nostalgia to the 68 year-old's words however - he didn't seem to be hitting out at guys who like to dress down - rather he was reminiscing for those rose-tinted 'good old days': "I hate the way men dress today. At the theatre it's all anoraks and shorts. You can even get into most restaurants without wearing trousers. I used to love dressing for dinner." He spoke of the plight of so many women to get their boyfriends to dress up, saying "You go to dinner and see beautifully dressed women with men like tramps wearing trainers, jeans and T-shirts."

'But All My Friends Have Got One!' - Rod Stewart Bemoans Lack Of Knighthood

Rod Stewart Mick Jagger Rolling Stones

Rod Stewart is miffed – he reckons he should has a Sir before his name, like his musical buddies Tom Jones and Mick Jagger do. But Rod, it’s not such a big deal – we didn’t even pop a Sir in front of their names just then.

Rod StewartRod Stewart 'doesn't care' if he gets a knighthood or not

“Mick doesn’t pay taxes here and Tom lives in America. If my time comes, it will. If it doesn’t, I’m not bothered,” he told Radio Times magazine. Thing is, saying your not bothered means only one thing: you’re very much bothered. “The Queen and I have one thing in common. The same hairstyle for 45 years,” he continued, suggesting that similar follicle aesthetics might in some way lead to a knighthood.

Ever wanted to know what Andy Murray and his fellow Wimbledon competitors listen to before heading out onto centre court? Well, of course Roger Federer chills out to The National, Rafael Nadal listens to the soothing sounds of Spanish guitars and Djokovic listens to early Oasis. Obviously.

But what about young Murray? With pretty much everyone in Britain anticipating him to win his first Wimbledon title, the Scottish star has shared his playlist with Spotify. It's made up of a couple of morale boosting stompers with some contemporary grooves in there for good measure. Worryingly, 1980's singer-songwriter and Meg Ryan's latest squeeze John Mellencamp makes two appearances on the list, as does Ed Sheeran. AC/DC's legendary rock anthem 'You Shook Me All Night Long' and Robin Thicke's No.1 track Blurred Lines also helps Andy remain focused. Apparently.

Tom Odell To Topple King Kanye In UK Charts

Tom Odell Kanye West Lily Allen David Bowie Rod Stewart Passenger

The news that Tom Odell might reach the No.1 spot in the UK charts comes just two days after British music magazine NME gave a 0/10 as the 22 year-old's debut abum Long Way Down plummeted violently at the hands of jaded journo, Mark Beaumont who described Odell as a "virulent dose of musical syphilis." In response to his son's scathing review at the hands of NME, Odell's pilot father phoned up the music mag to complain that the debut had been reviewed unfairly, according to The Independent.

Lily Allen, who originally discovered Odell and signed him to her label, claiming he reminded her of David Bowie, rushed to his defence on Twitter with a searing tweet: "For all the people asking who the NME is, it's like this fanzine that people used to read in the 90s" after earlier describing NME as tw*ts in an earlier. The 22 year-old from Chichester made his name touring the open mic circuits but quickly rose to fame after being discovered by Allen, which led to an album advance, an EP and an appearance on Later With Jools Holland.

Ronnie Wood Is 'Very Blessed' With New Wife Sally Humphreys

Ronnie Wood Sir Paul McCartney Rod Stewart

Ronnie Wood went a little bit ga-ga after the breakdown of his 17 year marriage to Jo Wood, after he left her for the very young Ekaterina Ivanova. He'd already had a very difficult five years with the death of his two brothers, so a late mid-life crisis wasn't all that surprising. However, his life and his sanity now seem back on track having got married for the third time, to Sally Humphreys.

Sally must be pretty good because Wood's sons approve of her. Despite her being over 30 years his junior (he's 65, she's 34), Wood told Hello Magazine, "I wish I'd met Sal earlier. I can't think of another girl more suited to me." The marriage creates an entirely new family for the old rocker, which he's more than pleased about, "'It was a wonderful day. She looked beautiful walking through that doorway. I feel very blessed to have a new family. My dad and brothers are no longer with us so it's really nice to be welcomed by a new gang. Her relatives are lovely."

The couple have known each other for years, but it took a while for them to finally get together, as Humphreys explains: "'Ronnie was married and then Ronnie wasn't married. I have had boyfriends, then I didn't have a boyfriend. It had to wait until everyone was clear. But I definitely feel like I have ended up in the right place."

Ronnie Wood Says He Wants Kids Already

Ronnie Wood Rod Stewart Sir Paul McCartney

Ronnie Wood, who wedded his girlfriend of six months Sally Humphries earlier this week, has announced what he plans to happen next in his still young relationship - he wants children.

The Rolling Stones guitarist wed for the third time to Humphries on Friday (21 Dec). At 34, his new wife is 31 years his junior, and already Ronnie wants someone even younger in his life. Luckily for Sally though, the legendary ladies' man doesn't want a younger beau, but instead a brood of children. Speaking to the Sunday People, a close friend of the newlyweds said, "Sally has always wanted to have children and thinks Ronnie will be a great dad to them now he's settled down. They have enjoyed being by themselves and have a real laugh but a baby is something they both really want in the near future."

Ronnie apparently took inspiration from his close friends and groomsmen at the wedding, Rod Stewart and Sir Paul McCartney, to set up a family with his young wife, much in the same way as they have done (particularly Rod). The source added: "Ronnie thinks the world of Rod and they spend a lot of time together. There isn't really any pressure to have kids, but it seems like the natural thing to do. The feeling is that if Rod can do it, so can Ronnie."

Ronnie Wood Marries For The Third Time

Ronnie Wood Sir Paul McCartney Rod Stewart

Ronnie Wood found the perfect way to round of one heck of a year: by marrying his girlfriend of six-months, Sally Humphreys.

The Rolling Stones guitarist wed Humphreys yesterday (21 December 2012) at an intimate civil ceremony at London's Dorchester Hotel. The wedding was attended by a few close friends and family, with Beatles (and now Nirvana) legend Paul McCartney and Rod Stewart turning up with their respective partners. Rod, who is Ronnie's former Faces bandmate, served as the best man for the occasion.

The couple went against more than one tradition during the nuptials, beginning when the newlyweds arrived at the Dorchester together in a black Mercedes, and continuing with Ronnie's choice of suit: a blue one. Also, hotels don't usually act as the most traditional of settings for a wedding either. However some traditions were met, particularly with Humphreys' white dress, which she had previously said belonged to her mother. "For anyone interested, I’m wearing my mum’s wedding dress," she said.

Can Anyone Stop Rihanna Securing Her First Billboard 200 No.1 Album?

Rihanna Michael Buble Rod Stewart Phillip Phillips Taylor Swift

Though she collects No.1 singles like baseball cards, a No.1 album on the Billboard 200 still eludes Rihanna - the multi-award winning mega-selling Barbadian R&B star. That could all change this week as her seventh studio release Unapologetic has what is described as "a very good chance" of scoring a No.1 for the singer and her Def Jam label, reports Billboard.

The album hit shelves this week and should sell somewhere between 225,000 and 250,000 by end of the week (November 25, 2012). That may well be enough to hand Rhi-Rhi the No.1 spot, though with Black Friday and the Thanksgiving holiday ahead (November 22) it's notoriously difficult to predict sales figures. Previously, her best U.S. chart finish has been No.3 - her 2010 album Loud shifted 207,000 copies in its first week. This time last year, Thanksgiving had a massive impact on Michael Buble's Christmas record, which rose to No.1 selling 227,000 copies (some 60,000 copies more than in the previous week). This week, Rod Stewart's Merry Christmas Baby is in the frame, though it's unlikely to rise to No.1, despite prowling at No.6 having sold 80,000. So who else could stop Rihanna from landing her first Billboard 200 No.1?

With a belly full of turkey, some music fans may find themselves stumbling into music stores and buying Taylor Swift's Red - for whatever reason - or even Phillip Phillips' The World From The Side of the Moon. All will be revealed pretty soon, though we're sticking on our money on Rihanna.

Tonight's TV: Cheryl Cole Regrets Filming 'Cringy' Reality Show

Cheryl Cole Rod Stewart Neil Diamond One Direction

Cheryl Cole has joked that she regrets filming her new TV show Access All Areas because it highlights her "cringy" side. The ITV2 programme - which airs at 9pm tonight - features Cole's new boyfriend Tre Holloway and reveals how the pair got together.

The show was filmed during Cheryl's first solo tour though it's the scenes with backing dancer Holloway that will most interest fans of the Geordie star. According to The Metro, some scenes feature the pair "kissing and snuggling backstage" as well as "feeding each other sweets." Tweeting this afternoon, Cole said, "My Access All Areas behind the scenes tour documentary is on tonight 9 on Itv2 !! Who'll be watching ??? I literally had a friend of mine filming so that i would not feel like i had a 'camera crew' in my way and at times forgot myself." Though the show will no doubt draw huge numbers, the singer warned, "I have since regretted this decision at the number of times i cringed watching it lolololol..Oh well.. It is def Access All Areas. Up close personal and RAW hahaha." During a sneak peek of the show, Cole confirms her relationship with Holloway, telling the camera, "Tre is a dancer and he is my boyfriend. And the rest you can figure out for yourself."

The singer had every reason to be in a good mood today, having performed with Girls Aloud for The Queen at last night's Royal Variety Performance. The reunited girl group performed 'The Promise' on an evening that also featured the likes of Rod Stewart, Neil Diamond and One Direction

Fit For A Queen? Royal Variety Features One Direction, David Walliams And Washing Machines

David Walliams One Direction Harry Styles Girls Aloud Katherine Jenkins Rod Stewart Robbie Williams Neil Diamond

It's that time of year again people. The Royal Variety Performance was taped on Monday evening (November 19, 2012) and featured a whole host of entertainment stars taking to the stage at London's Albert Hall in front of one very special guest. This year, the Queen witnessed performances from the likes of One Direction, Girls Aloud and Katherine Jenkins, reports the Daily Mirror.

Fresh from their stateside success, the 1D boys were back in London  to perform new single 'Little Things', though we're not sure how it went down with her majesty. David Walliams' skit afterwards probably confused her even more; the Little Britain star bounding on-stage in a wig and red cardigan while pretending to be a stalker. "I've got a washing machine and I named it One Direction. You make me so happy," he yelled in a high pitched voice. "Was your song What Makes You Beautiful written about me? I love you so much. Will you marry me?" The group turned down his proposal before he approached heartthrob Harry Styles to ask him to "take a photo" of him with the rest of the boys. Walliams, 41, hosted the evening with Amanda Holden also on-hand to introduce some of the acts.

Elsewhere, a reunited Girls Aloud took to the stage to perform 'The Promise' and Cheryl Cole spoke of meeting the Queen afterwards. "The Queen is so delicate. She has hair like Candy floss and tiny dancing style shoes, awww. Another highlight was Alicia Keys, such an incredibly talented and down to earth woman," she said. The 100th anniversary of the Royal Variety Performance will air on ITV on December 3, also featuring performances from Rod Stewart, Robbie Williams and Neil Diamond.

'Red' Alert: Taylor Swift Spends Second Week Atop Billboard Albums Chart

Taylor Swift Meek Mill Kendrick Lamar Rod Stewart Mumford And Sons

Taylor Swift’s latest album Red has remained steadfast at the top of the Billboard albums chart for a second week. Swift’s popularity appears to know no bounds, as she has made a successful and seamless transition from her country roots into the pop arena. She seems equally at home at the Grand Ole Opry as she does wooing a crowd of teenagers at an MTV Awards event. This dual appeal has translated nicely into CD sales for Swift, who shifted 344,000 copies of Red in the last week in the United States.

The rapper Meek Mill made a seriously impressive dent in the chars with his major label debut, Dreams and Nightmares, and sold approximately 165,000, according to MTV News (sourced from Nielsen Soundscan). It may be a long way off Swift’s total, but it still landed him the number two slot, in a week where sales were affected by Hurricane Sandy on the East Coast of America. The previous week, it had been another rapper snapping at Taylor’s heels (albeit from a distance!). This week, Kendrick Lamar has slipped down to number five with good kid, m.A.A.d. City, making room for Rod Stewart’s Christmas album Merry Christmas Baby.

Mumford & Sons, who impressed with their initial ascent to the top of the US charts with Babel, have dropped to number seven with sales of 44,000. We’re predicting a third week at the top for Taylor; this week’s releases seem to contain little in the way of a threat to the 23 year-old global star.
