Rose McGowan has been a huge supporter of the women speaking out and making allegations of sexual assault and rape against one of film's former leading moguls, Harvey Weinstein, as well as being one of the first to make an allegation of herself. Now, in her first public appearance since the scandal hit the headlines, the actress has taken aim at Hollywood during The Women's Convention of Detroit, promising that she's not going to give up in unearthing those who have acted inappropriately and saying "it's time to clean house".

Addressing the audience in the room who hanged on her every word, she said: "I have been silenced for 20 years: I have been slut-shamed, I have been harassed, I've been maligned, and you know what? I'm just like you." Describing each of the women in the room as her own rose, she said that they all "have thorns, and our thorns carry justice. And our thorns carry consequence."

She then focused on Hollywood and the inequalities that women face in the movie industry, adding: "[Movies are] all told through 96 percent males in the Directors' Guild of America; that statistic has not changed since 1946. We are given one view. And I know the men behind that view. And they should not be in your mind and they should not be in mind. It's time to clean house," before throwing her fist into the air.

The actress would go on to explain however that sexual abuse extends further than Hollywood and the film industry, saying that she and others have been condition by "the messaging system for your mind."

"It is the mirror that you're given to look into," she explained. "This is what you are as a woman. This is what you are as a man. This is what you are as a boy. Girl. Gay. Straight. Transgender."

The President of the United States, Donald Trump wasn't left out of her comments either, with McGowan referencing the infamous leaked dialogue that saw him say he would grab women by their "p***y".

"I came to be a voice for all of us who have been told that we are nothing," she triumphantly exclaimed. "For all of us who have been looked down on. For all of us who have been grabbed by the motherf*****g p***y. No more. Name it, shame it and call it out. Join me."
