Russell Brand Returns To Live Radio Nine Years After 'Sachsgate' With Radio X Show

Russell Brand

Nearly nine years after the ‘Sachsgate’ scandal that nearly finished his career, Russell Brand has announced his return to regular live radio with a new show on Radio X this weekend.

The 41 year old actor and stand-up comedian was forced to resign from the BBC back in 2008 after he caused widespread outrage when he and Jonathan Ross made prank calls to veteran actor Andrew Sachs were broadcast on Ross’s Radio 2 show.

The BBC itself was fined £150,000 for broadcasting the offending material, in which Brand and Ross left messages on the ‘Fawlty Towers’ actor’s answering machine featuring offensive comments about his granddaughter.

Ofcom Considers Comic Relief Investigation After Sound Issues And Bad Language

Russell Brand

British television watchdog Ofcom is weighing up whether to launch an investigation into the BBC’s Comic Relief telethon last weekend, after the charity fundraiser caused more than 150 complaints.

The network’s bi-annual Red Nose Day evening, which was broadcast on Friday evening (March 24th), was criticised on social media for sound issues and pre-watershed profanity.

A number of moments, in particular when comedian Vic Reeves flashed a fake penis at Susanna Reid before the 9pm watershed, and when host Russell Brand exclaimed “f***ing hell” in response to a technical hitch, sparked controversy. By Monday (March 27th), a large number of viewers had written to Ofcom to complain about the incidents, and the watchdog is now considering its response.

What Could Russell Brand Bring Us With His Trickster Tales?

Russell Brand

The funnyman confirmed, by way of a Youtube video that Russell Brand’s Trickster Tales will be released in November by Cannongate books. Russell BrandRussell Brand will unleash his Trickster Tales in November

Entitled Trickster Tales, Brand will be reinterpreting classic fairy stories for a new generation. In the video posted by Cannongate on Youtube, Brand unveiled the first tale he’ll be tacking is The Pied Piper of Hamelin, saying ‘I know you've already heard of that, and you might think 'well, that ain't your story', but I've done a different version of it.’ Brand also said he believes fairy tales are ‘the code to unlock aspects of our consciousness and to affect and impact the way we see the world,’ adding, ‘once we start changing the way children see the world, oh we can do all sorts of stuff’.

Katy Perry's Most Personal Album Is Also Her Most Popular One To Date

Katy Perry Russell Brand John Mayer

Katy Perry is currently enjoying her recent return to the top of the pop agenda, releasing her fourth studio album to rave reviews and eager audience anticipation, and already enjoying tremendous success on the back of her her last two singles. Crammed with the usual dose of bubblegum pop numbers, Prism also features some more mature numbers, and the lyrics on the album are by far some of her most personal to date. Maybe that's why critics are in love with it so much.

Perry is enjoying critical and commercial success with her new album

According to review aggregator MetaCritic, Prism has enjoyed the most positive critical reception of any other KP release, with many of the songs enjoying some credible moments next to the usual presence of throwaway pop numbers that Perry is known for. Some reviews are positively glowing, although others are a little harsher, however there are few that just berate the album content. On the back of this critical success, Prism has managed to score some impressive sales figures already, and has been climbing up album charts across the world.

How Russell Brand Helped Katy Perry's New Album, 'Prism'

Katy Perry Russell Brand John Mayer

For many people, a divorce can be a terrible experience, hounded by despair and loneliness, and it appears that even Katy Perry went through the same emotions but she managed to channel them into chart-climbingly catchy music à la Taylor Swift on her latest album, Prism.

Divorce Took A Heavy Emotional Toll On Katy.

With lead track 'Roar' unleashed last month to give us a sniff of her new, starker direction, it was evident that Prism wasn't exactly going to be a record of doom metal, rather the same power pop fluff we've become accustomed to from Ms. Perry. However, there was no question about whether Katy's new stance advocated standing up for herself, feeling empowered, and moving on to better things; a strength reportedly resulting from her divorce from British comedian, Russell Brand.

Russell Brand, Charles Moore And The Continuing Irrelevance Of The GQ Awards

Russell Brand

Russell Brand made headlines at the GQ Men of the Year awards this week, after making a joke about the Nazi's and their sartorial choices. Noting Hugo Boss's link to the SS went down like a lead balloon, though it was hardly the year's most vile joke. Besides, Brand is a comedian.

Anyway, Telegraph journalist and all-round bore Charles Moore was so incensed by the joke that he thought it right to hit back with a jibe about Brand's notorious answer phone message to the Fawlty Towers actor Andrew Sachs, which cost the comedian his job on BBC Radio 2 in 2008.

Moore has been indignant about the whole thing for years, apparently resolving to pay his BBC license fee to Help the Aged until the corporation dispensed of the services of Brand and his partner-in-crime Jonathan Ross.

GQ Men Of The Year Awards Descend Into Chaos Over Russell Brand, Nazis, Jews

Russell Brand Noel Gallagher

The GQ Men of the Year awards is always a rather boisterous affair. When you stick a load of preened rock stars, comedians, actors and journalists in the same room, give them free alcohol and tell them how stylish and brilliant they are: things are going to happen. And they did.

The controversy began when Russell Brand arrived on-stage to collect his 'Oracle' award, reminding the audience that the event's sponsor - high end designer Hugo Boss - was responsible for designing the SS uniforms during World War II. For all intents and purposes, they were pretty snappy outfits, though probably a period on the designer's history that it would rather forget.

"If anyone knows a bit about history and fashion, you know it was Hugo Boss who made uniforms for the Nazis. But they looked f***ing amazing," said Brand, to gasps in the room at the Royal Opera House, according to the Evening Standard.

The hilarious animation – starring Steve Carell as the evil genius-cum-family man Gru – followed up the impressive Wednesday with a solid Thursday, managing $23.5m. All in all, a domestic total of $84.3m so far is good going, especially considering it’s still got a holiday weekend to sell. Even better news for Universal is, considering it’s an animation, it was rather cheap, costing a mere $76m to make – it’s already broken even and more!

Despicable Me 2, the sequel to the first 2010 film, is due to be released in cinemas on Wednesday. Early critical reviews have been largely positive. Keith Uhlich of the New York Times said the franchise has improved since the last film and that it is "delights more often than it disappoints".

Whilst most of the critics have enjoyed the film there are others who criticised Universal Pictures for its lack of originality. Ryan Gilbey of The Statesman said the film is "a completely redundant follow-up to the perfectly delightful 2010 original". Others have drawn comparisons with Monsters University, claiming Despicable Me 2 "has more laughs in the first 5 minutes" than Monsters managed in 90 (according to Roger Moore of McClatchy-Tribune News Service).

Despicable Me 2 Review

Very Good

With the same teams of writers and directors, this sequel sticks closely to the winning formula of the 2010 original: pile on so much snappy humour and colourful wackiness that no one will worry about the plot. So the film is sweetly engaging and relentlessly hilarious, but there's nothing particularly inventive or memorable about it.

After discovering his less villainous side, Gru (Carell) is now trying to go legit with his sidekick Dr Nefario (Brand) and their horde of mischievous yellow minions. Gru is also enjoying the challenges of being a father to his lively adopted daughters Margo, Agnes and Edith (Cosgrove, Fisher and Gaier). Then he meets the undercover spy Lucy (Wiig) and her boss Silas (Coogan), who ask for his help hunting down the bad guy who stole a secret government chemical. Gru reluctantly takes the job, and his suspicion falls on Eduardo (Bratt), not because he looks just like former fellow villain El Macho, but because Margo is in love with his surly teen son (Arias).

As before, the film mixes cute family sentimentality with wacky cartoon slapstick in which everyone gets smashed, pounded and blown up but emerges unscathed to face the next bit of outrageous mayhem. The violent undercurrents are sometimes a little disturbing, especially when children are talking about murder, but the movie's wildly ridiculous tone constantly reminds us to stop taking anything seriously. Thankfully, we're constantly distracted by the whizzy, action-packed animation, which makes especially witty use of the 3D.

Katy Perry Breaks Silence On Relationship With Russell Brand Including His ‘Divorce Text’

Katy Perry Russell Brand John Mayer

Katy Perry, in an interview with US Vogue, has revealed some of the details surrounding her mysterious divorce from comedian Russell Brand. The ‘Pieces of Me’ singer claimed the marriage began to disintegrate as they were apart frequently with Brand becoming “very controlling” when Perry toured. Further difficulties arouse when Brand, on his comedy tour, would use Perry as material. Perry said this was made apparent when she “had come to surprise him at one of his shows”, not being aware she was in the audience at the time.

The marriage fell into a similar pattern of most celebrity unions where Perry claims “when I met him he wanted an equal, and I think a lot of times strong men do want an equal”. Unfortunately for Perry, Brand’s ideal did not meet his expectations in reality.

Perry described her former husband as a “very smart” “magical man” when she first met him. Perry claims that she was deeply in love with her husband when they married in December 2009.

Got $7 Million? Katy Perry Selling Marital Home With Russell Brand

Katy Perry Russell Brand

Katy Perry has put the mansion she once shared with ex-husband Russell Brand on the market for a cool $7 million. The pop superstar was looking for a quick private sale, though after failing to receive any substantial bids, has decided to put the 7-bedroom Hollywood Hills house on the public market. Perry, 28, and British comedian Brand, 37, bought the property for $6.5 million in 2011, though Brand transferred property ownership to his ex-wife after their divorce.

It features 11 bathrooms, a sweeping staircase, stained glass windows and a stone foyer. There's also plenty of land - 3 acres to be precise - and two guests wings, a swimming pool and waterfall. Basically it's one of the biggest houses we've ever seen, and it yours for just $6.925 million, though why not go in at $6 million? Perry wants a quick sale.

Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton caused a stir on Tuesday (April 9, 2013) after suggesting that Perry and Brand had been spotted "making out" in Los Angeles, however, the story was later pulled. "A source told us today that they saw Katy Perry and her ex-husband Russell Brand making out, but we have confirmation now it simply wasn't true! We're so sorry for jumping the gun on this one, KatyCat and Russ!" Hilton wrote afterwards.

The infamous Scottish comedian joked about the Royal Family, the Jimmy Savile scandal, Oscar Pistorius's murder trial and Kate Middleton's pregnancy in the gig to raise awareness of drug and alcohol addiction.

Speaking of the Queen's recent hospitalisation, Boyle told the audience at Wembley Arena, "I wish she'd died- because they wouldn't have been able to tell anyone. They would have had to hollow out her body into a suit and fill it with helium." Several newspapers report the comedian being booed for jokes about the Duchess of Cambridge's breasts and claims that he fathered her child. "She told me she was on the f***ing pill," he said.

The Glasgow-born comedian, whose become a multi-millionaire after forging a hugely successful career in comedy, continued in bad taste with a reference to the Savile scandal. "I think the BBC made Jimmy Savile wear that jewellery so children could hear him coming. I had thought the only way I'd end up back on the BBC would be if I started f***ing kids," he said. Other jokes about the Pope and Oscar Pistorius were also cut from the broadcast, which ran with a two-and-half-hour time delay.

Legendary London Stage School Denies Julianne Hough Abuse

Julianne Hough Ryan Seacrest Patsy Kensit Kelly Brook Russell Brand

Head honchos at London's foremost dance and drama school the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts have moved to distance themselves from suggestions from Hollywood star Julianne Hough that she was mentally and physically abused as a student there. The Footloose star, and girlfriend of Ryan Seacrest, told Cosmopolitan magazine that she suffered abuse as an aspiring dancer in London.

Hough claimed she was taunted at the school, saying "I was told if I ever went back to the United States, three things were going to happen. One: I was going to amount to nothing. Two: I was going to work at Whataburger. And three: I was going to end up a slut. So, it was like, I can't go back. I have to be this person." Most worryingly, Hough said the abuse got worse when she hit puberty.

The comments have prompted Academy bosses to release a statement insisting that media outlets suggesting the star was abused while studying there are wrong. It reads, "We feel this article has been extremely badly worded and if re-read, you will see that although it mentions our name, it does not say that any abuse took place here.We feel sure Julianne would herself be horrified to learn that she had caused her old school any embarrassment or harmed its good name."

Eddie Murphy Honoured By Fellow Stars For Spike TV

Eddie Murphy Jamie Foxx Russell Brand Adam Sandler Chris Rock Stevie Wonder Arsenio Hall Judge Reinhold

Eddie Murphy was honoured by his peers for his outstanding contribution to film, TV, music and stand-up over his 30 + year career.

Chris Rock, Jamie Foxx, Adam Sandler, and Russell Brand were just some of the famous faces at the Beverley Hills gala being aired on Spike later this month (it airs Nov. 14 at 10 p.m. on Spike). Murphy's friends and co-stars had nothing but praise for Murphy, with his appearances on such comedy classics as Coming To America and The Beverley Hills Cop being recalled by co-stars Arsenio Hall and Judge Reinhold. Jeffrey Katzenberg of Dreamworks Animation also gave his heart to Murphy's Donkey character from the Shrek films, whilst his Life co-star, Martin Lawrence, told him from onstage, “You’ve got a friend for life."

There were also video highlights from the funny man's seminal stand-up performances from the 80's, Raw and Delirious, although despite much attempted persuasion Murphy declined to get back on stage and perform stand up again.

Jessica Biel To Become Mrs Timberlake As She Opts For The Traditional Name-Change

Jessica Biel Justin Timberlake Katy Perry Russell Brand Victoria Beckham David Beckham Courteney Cox David Arquette

Amid all the controversy that has arisen in response to the appalling video allegedly shown at the newly-wed's wedding last week, it's a pleasure to report that Jessica Biel may not be a Biel for that much longer, opting to legally take her husband's name.

Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel tied the knot last week in a lavish Italian wedding, with celebrations spanning almost an entire week. To further show her love and loyalty to her singer/actor husband, she has chosen to legally change her name to 'Timberlake', though she will still use 'Biel' professionally, probably to avoid any confusion in the future. She thinks she's 'really won the jackpot of names' by taking on Timberlake, reports Today Entertainment. We doubt that Justin offered to change his name to Biel, but he did pen an original song and perform it as she walked down the aisle.

Most actresses choose to keep their name, these days in line with feminism and all that jazz. However there are a select few that have opted to take on their partner's name. Courtney Cox-Arquette chose to double up after marrying David Arquette (although she's returned to just Cox after their divorce), famously Victoria Beckham took on David Beckham's name (her original surname was 'Adam's, Beckham is a great improvement) and Katy Perry made mistake of taking on Brand during her short lived marriage to Russell Brand. We just hope that Jessica will be able to keep Timberlake for the rest of her life, though, given the stats of the above marriage, 2 out of every three marriages fail.

Katy Perry Honoured By Billboard Magazine

Katy Perry Russell Brand Taylor Swift Beyonce Knowles Fergie

Kate Perry has been named Billboard's Woman of the Year according to MTV, and what a year it's been - overcoming breakups and toppings charts.

The 27-year-old pop star and actress endured a high profile divorce from British funny man Russell Brand, before turning the ordeal into a hit single and film. The track, Part Of Me, featured a 3D behind-the-scenes movie entitled Katy Perry: Part Of Me that documented the highs and lows of personal and professional life. Bill Werde, editorial director for Billboard, said in a statement that Perry was chosen for her impressive achievements in the past 12 months, calling her "one of the most exciting and inspiring artists in the industry," before adding: "Katy Perry broke into the industry not even five years ago, and has already accomplished more than most artists can hope for in an entire career."

Perry can now officially be branded a powerhouse franchise; she has sold 48 million tracks in the US alone including the hits Firework, California Gurls, ET and Hot N Cold, as well as lending her name to her own perfume, nail polish and false eyelash lines. Forbes placed Perry at No. 3 on their highest-earning female musicians list in December 2011, estimating her pre-tax earnings at $US44 million. She will receive the award at the 2012 Billboard Women in Music event in New York on November 30. Previous winners include Taylor Swift, Beyonce and Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie.

Rock Of Ages Review

Very Good
This raucous trawl through 80s power ballads, rock anthems and gigantic hair is a lot of fun, partly because it throws so many big stars into against-type roles in which they get to sing and dance. But the plot couldn't be any thinner or it wouldn't exist at all.

Small-town girl Sherrie (Hough) takes the bus to 1987 Hollywood to become a rock star. There she meets Drew (Boneta), who has the same dream and works in the famed Bourbon Room on the Sunset Strip. He convinces the owner (Baldwin) to hire her as a barmaid just as diva-rocker Stacee Jaxx (Cruise) comes to play a major gig. Buzzing around him are a Rolling Stone journalist (Akerman) wanting an interview and a right-winger (Zeta-Jones) trying to protect the children from the evils of rock-n-roll.

Hop Review

Very Good
What could have been a painfully childish animated Easter romp is given a shot of deranged humour and an above-average cast of voices and cameos. This makes it rather a lot more fun than expected.

Fred (Marsden) is a slacker whose parents (Cole and Perkins) finally force him out of the house. With some help from his sister (Cuoco), he gets a job interview and a mansion to housesit. But any promise is upended when he meets a talking rabbit named EB (voiced by Brand), who would rather be a rock drummer than follow his destiny as the Easter Bunny. Meanwhile on Easter Island, a disgruntled chick named Carlos (Azaria) is plotting a coup against EB's father (Laurie).
