The funnyman confirmed, by way of a Youtube video that Russell Brand’s Trickster Tales will be released in November by Cannongate books. In the video posted by Cannongate on Youtube, Brand unveiled the first tale he’ll be tacking is The Pied Piper of Hamelin, saying ‘I know you've already heard of that, and you might think 'well, that ain't your story', but I've done a different version of it.’ Brand also said he believes fairy tales are ‘the code to unlock aspects of our consciousness and to affect and impact the way we see the world,’ adding, ‘once we start changing the way children see the world, oh we can do all sorts of stuff’.

Katy Perry's Most Personal Album Is Also Her Most Popular One To Date

Katy Perry Russell Brand John Mayer

Katy Perry is currently enjoying her recent return to the top of the pop agenda, releasing her fourth studio album to rave reviews and eager audience anticipation, and already enjoying tremendous success on the back of her her last two singles. Crammed with the usual dose of bubblegum pop numbers, Prism also features some more mature numbers, and the lyrics on the album are by far some of her most personal to date. Maybe that's why critics are in love with it so much.

Perry is enjoying critical and commercial success with her new album

According to review aggregator MetaCritic, Prism has enjoyed the most positive critical reception of any other KP release, with many of the songs enjoying some credible moments next to the usual presence of throwaway pop numbers that Perry is known for. Some reviews are positively glowing, although others are a little harsher, however there are few that just berate the album content. On the back of this critical success, Prism has managed to score some impressive sales figures already, and has been climbing up album charts across the world.

How Russell Brand Helped Katy Perry's New Album, 'Prism'

Katy Perry Russell Brand John Mayer

For many people, a divorce can be a terrible experience, hounded by despair and loneliness, and it appears that even Katy Perry went through the same emotions but she managed to channel them into chart-climbingly catchy music à la Taylor Swift on her latest album, Prism.

Katy Perry Prism
Divorce Took A Heavy Emotional Toll On Katy.

With lead track 'Roar' unleashed last month to give us a sniff of her new, starker direction, it was evident that Prism wasn't exactly going to be a record of doom metal, rather the same power pop fluff we've become accustomed to from Ms. Perry. However, there was no question about whether Katy's new stance advocated standing up for herself, feeling empowered, and moving on to better things; a strength reportedly resulting from her divorce from British comedian, Russell Brand.

Russell Brand, Charles Moore And The Continuing Irrelevance Of The GQ Awards

Russell Brand

Russell Brand made headlines at the GQ Men of the Year awards this week, after making a joke about the Nazi's and their sartorial choices. Noting Hugo Boss's link to the SS went down like a lead balloon, though it was hardly the year's most vile joke. Besides, Brand is a comedian.

Anyway, Telegraph journalist and all-round bore Charles Moore was so incensed by the joke that he thought it right to hit back with a jibe about Brand's notorious answer phone message to the Fawlty Towers actor Andrew Sachs, which cost the comedian his job on BBC Radio 2 in 2008.

Moore has been indignant about the whole thing for years, apparently resolving to pay his BBC license fee to Help the Aged until the corporation dispensed of the services of Brand and his partner-in-crime Jonathan Ross.

GQ Men Of The Year Awards Descend Into Chaos Over Russell Brand, Nazis, Jews

Russell Brand Noel Gallagher

The GQ Men of the Year awards is always a rather boisterous affair. When you stick a load of preened rock stars, comedians, actors and journalists in the same room, give them free alcohol and tell them how stylish and brilliant they are: things are going to happen. And they did.

The controversy began when Russell Brand arrived on-stage to collect his 'Oracle' award, reminding the audience that the event's sponsor - high end designer Hugo Boss - was responsible for designing the SS uniforms during World War II. For all intents and purposes, they were pretty snappy outfits, though probably a period on the designer's history that it would rather forget.

"If anyone knows a bit about history and fashion, you know it was Hugo Boss who made uniforms for the Nazis. But they looked f***ing amazing," said Brand, to gasps in the room at the Royal Opera House, according to the Evening Standard.

Despicable Me 2’s special July 4th was independent in more ways that one: it was Universals biggest ever opening for a movie, with a total of $34.3m on Wednesday, despite most American’s enjoying the seasonally good weather. This has set it up to perform well over the weekend, as those little minions continue to delight audiences.

The hilarious animation – starring Steve Carell as the evil genius-cum-family man Gru – followed up the impressive Wednesday with a solid Thursday, managing $23.5m. All in all, a domestic total of $84.3m so far is good going, especially considering it’s still got a holiday weekend to sell. Even better news for Universal is, considering it’s an animation, it was rather cheap, costing a mere $76m to make – it’s already broken even and more!

The original grossed $543 million worldwide (£357m) making a whopping profit and securing the possibility of a sequel. Perhaps the movie's success is due to the comedy factor brought about by the playful, helium-voiced minions? Mark Kermode seems to think so, in a golden review: "these yellow weebles are comedy gold, their slapstick antics blending a simplicity of form with a complexity of expression rooted in the traditions of silent cinema."

Katy Perry Admitted That Russell Brand Ended Things Via Text Message

Katy Perry Russell Brand

For many, the union of Russell Brand and Katy Perry was a strange one; one of them is a comedian renown for his intelligence and liberal views, the other a pop star with seemingly no inclination for intellect or personal views. In hindsight, it was never going to work out was it?

That’s not to say either of them are right, wrong, good or bad, but suffice to say: it was weird. So when their divorce was announced last year, no one was surprised. Brand’s method, though, may not have been expected. "He's a very smart man, and I was in love with him when I married him," Perry said in an interview with Vogue. "Let's just say I haven't heard from him since he texted me saying he was divorcing me December 31, 2011."

Brand is known for his quick style of comedy, with which he can usually confuse even the most savvy of interviewers as he demonstrated recently with his performance on Morning Joe. Although, to call the people at NBC savvy is a mighty fine compliment. Perry, though, started to get lost in the funny mans humour. "Hysterical in some ways. Until he started making jokes about me and he didn't know I was in the audience, because I had come to surprise him at one of his shows,” she explained of his comedic style.

It's every relationship's worst nightmare: being dumped by text - only this time Russell Brand ramped up the rudeness by asking former wife Katy Perry for a divorce in a New Year's text.

Speaking to US Vogue magazine in a candid interview, 28 year-old Perry spoke of the pitfalls of her 14 month marriage and identified Brand's ego as a key reason their marriage failed: "I think a lot of times strong men do want an equal, but then they get that equal and they're, like, I can't handle the equalness. He didn't like the atmosphere of me being the boss on tour."

Perry described 38 year-old British comedian Brand as "smart" and "magical" until he became "controlling, which was upsetting."

Russell Brand As Doctor Who? Why Not!

Russell Brand is the latest high profile actor/famous person to express his desire to be the new Dr. Who. The comedian, who has been in America making bad films and writing excellent articles and said he would jump at the chance to time travel and boot Cybermen in the nether regions.

“I'd love to be the Doctor,” said Brand on Absolute Radio. “I'd be like a Tom Baker one, a long scarf, flouncy, wistful, quoting occasional poems, kicking Cybermen in the nuts," he exclaimed. One thing’s for certain, he has the flamboyancy and extravagance needed for the role. "I would just travel through time pinching people's a***s. Carry on up the worm hole. Like quantum physics, so that is actually perfect.”

Oh, hang on. Hang on a minute. Matt Smith quitting his role as The Dr has not only disappointed fans of the series – Smith was a popular time lord – but it has set the rumour mill into overdrive. Ben Daniels was mooted as a possible favourite, but now rumours are suggesting it’s time for a female Dr, with Miranda Hart and Sue Perkins leading candidates.

So, Were Katy Perry And Russell Brand Making Out At Soho House?

Katy Perry Russell Brand John Mayer

No, is the answer to that question. No, Katy Perry and Russell Brand weren't seen "full on making out" in the valet line at El Lay's Soho House this week, as was originally reported by celebrity blogger Perez Hilton. The story picked up some serious speed as it circulated around blogs and social network, though Hilton has since admitted that his sources were "100% wrong" on the matter.

Just a few hours later, Perez issued an apology to both Perry and Brand, writing "A source told us today that they saw Katy Perry and her ex-husband Russell Brand making out, but we have confirmation now it simply wasn't true! We're so sorry for jumping the gun on this one, KatyCat and Russ! We were just so excited to imagine two of our favorites were rekindling an old flame, we must've been blinded by our love for you guys as a couple!!"

The original report appeared to carry a little credence, given Katy Perry recent split with blues musician John Mayer, however, she is ready to sell the marital home that she shared with Russell Brand during their short marriage. The singer is selling the $7 million Hollywood Hills property through US estate agents after failing to secure a private deal. It features 11 bathrooms, 7 bedrooms, a swimming pool and its own waterfall.

Katy Perry's friends think John Mayer was using her.

The couple recently called time on their relationship for the second time and pals of the 'Firework' singer are relieved because they worry John was just using her to keep himself in the spotlight.

A source told People magazine: "He's very defensive and comes across as extremely jealous of her career. He's basically using Katy, who fits into his plans to stay in the spotlight right now. His whole moving to Montana sting didn't get him the attention he wanted and he has been going a bit crazy not being able to sing because of his vocal illness."

Russell Brand is set to host a radio show on Xfm later this month, as part of a promotion for a week-long series of Teenage Cancer Trust gigs, curated by former Oasis member Noel Gallagher. Brand’s radio show will take place on Monday March 18, 2013 between 9pm and midnight. He will be joined in the studio by his former co-host Matt Morgan, as well as the poet Mr Gee. It will be the first time in seven years that they’ll have been back in a radio studio together.

Has The BBC Forgiven Russell Brand? Comedian Celebrates Comic Relief Triumph In Exclusive Club

Russell Brand’s relationship with the BBC may well be on the mend, as the risky comedian’s set at their Comic Relief ‘Give It Up’ show went down a storm. The 37 year-old turned out to be a bigger hit than fellow performer Frankie Boyle, whose humour tends to be even closer to the bone than Brand’s and apparently the Scottish comic bombed at Wembley Arena, according to MailOnline. Brand had previously found himself in trouble when he and Jonathan Ross offended the actor Andrew Sachs, on a BBC radio show.

The ladies’ patience was apparently rewarded with the hookahs (special electronic shisha pipes, no less and rugs that Brand had laid out on the floor for them and the controversial comic / actor ordered pots of tea for his guests.

In an interview with ShortList, he revealed that punters at his stand-up gigs shout “[inaudible mumbling] Katy Perry!” at him but although it’s difficult to have the subject of a recently failed marriage thrown in your face, he tries not to pay too much attention to the abuse.

Putting things into perspective, Brand told his interviewer “it’s horrible. But you’ve got to be a big boy if you’re standing on stage in front of 10,000 people and you’ve taken 50 quid off each of them. They should shout what they want.” On the subject of divorce, Brand insists that it may have changed him but it hasn’t put him off marriage. “I feel different about my private life,” said Brand. “I feel like I need to have one now. If you’re married to someone who’s also famous, privacy becomes a commodity. But f*cking hell, that’s not really a problem in a world where people are starving. My attitude to fame and celebrity changes continually.”

Brand stands by the institution of marriage, though, even if his betrothal to Katy was short-lived. “I liked marriage. Most of it was brilliant. You can’t condemn an institution on one incident. You can’t condemn the whole Catholic Church for a few dodgy priests [laughs].”

Will Yoga Bring Russell Brand And Demi Moore Together?

Russell Brand Demi Moore

If there's one thing Russell Brand is famous for, no, not the drugs, the alcohol or the BBC Radio scandal, it's womanising. The 37-year-old is known for his womanising, and it seems yoga is a great place to meet them.

Especially when you invite everyone from your class back to your house to stretch and groan for a couple of hours. "Demi Moore, as far as anything more physical goes -- she's just at yoga. I really like her, she's really lovely. I just see her at yoga. She's an older lady, she's incredibly beautiful but that's that," said Brand of Moore, rather snappily, which suggests it was on his mind. "I like the yoga thing, it's the dawning of a wonderful new era. It's proving to be an interesting new phase for me -- yoga, transcendental consciousness, meditation, good-looking people. It's the dawning of a new Sixties."

Brand admitted, though, that he does keep an eye on the ladies while he's supposed to be finding his inner self. "It's full of amazing women. That's a fact. They are all filled with sexual energy. It has been brilliant."

Russell Brand In Home Grown Yoga Love In

Russell Brand

Russell Brand is famous for his sexual exploits, so when it was reported that he had 30 people in his house, stretching in tight cloths and groaning, you could be forgiven for thinking it was post-watershed news item.

It is, however, perfectly innocent. The star just had a bunch of people round to do some Yoga. "The yoga centre I had been going to sacked our instructor, so I have moved everyone into my house. I had 30 people doing it in my house," he explained, the Sun reports. "I had all the crew on my TV show doing yoga in the studio the other day too. There were 100 people doing it. It's not your normal yoga. It's like proper chanting, full-on stuff -- not for the faint-hearted," added Brand, who is becoming slightly obsessed with Yoga, possibly for more than enlightenment reasons. "It's full of amazing women. That's a fact. They are all filled with sexual energy. It has been brilliant."

Since Amy Winehouse's death from excessive use of drugs and alcohol, Brand has stepped up his campaign for more recognition for people suffering from the affliction of addiction. Having himself been severely addicted to drugs, and come out the other side both alive and still sane, well, on the whole, he is a prominent role model for those still suffering.

Pitch Perfect Star Rebel Wilson To Host MTV Movie Awards 2013

Rebel Wilson Sarah Silverman Russell Brand Amy Poehler Tina Fey Lindsay Lohan Jessica Alba

Rebel Wilson, the comedy actress currently starring in Pitch Perfect, will host the 2013 MTV Movie Awards, the network announced in a first look trailer on Thursday (December 20, 2012). Set to air on April 14, Wilson will become the first woman to host the event since Sarah Silverman emceed in 2007.

Female comedians are taking over next year's awards' ceremonies, with Amy Poehler and Tina Fey tasked with hosting the Golden Globes. The MTV Awards sometimes get it right with their hosts (Russell Brand, Andy Samberg, Sarah Silverman, Will Smith), though often get it very, very, wrong. Lindsay Lohan hosted in 2004, while Jessica Alba didn't exactly set the show alight in 2006. Anyway, Wilson - as the comedy actress of the moment - seems a pretty solid choice. The Australian played Brynn in the smash-hit Bridesmaids and went on to star in A Few Best Men, What To Expect When You're Expecting, and Pitch Perfect. She's currently writing a comedy named Super Fun for the ABC Network, and stars alongside Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson in the action-comedy Pain & Gain.

The 2012 MTV Movie Awards was held at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles in June. It was dominated by The Hunger Games, Twilight and Bridesmaids.

Noel Gallagher On The Teenage Cancer Trust Gigs: "The Government Should Be Doing This"

Noel Gallagher Russell Brand

Noel Gallagher is curating the Teenage Cancer Trust's set of gigs; getting some of the biggest bands and comedians to entertain audiences at The Royal Albert Hall, and all to raise money for teenagers that are suffering from cancer.

It sounds like a fun job, curating a week of shows at a truly legendary venue, but according to Noel, it's something the government should be doing (helping teenagers with cancer, not prancing about on stage a la Russell Brand, although that would be funny, too).

"I don't feel I've got a moral obligation to do anything. I do it because it feels right to me, not because I'm morally obliged to do it, let's face it, the government should be doing it, not us" Noel told Contact Music at a press conference today. "It's like when you meet these kids and stuff like that you remember that you were a teenager once, albeit a long time ago but speaking for me personally, I do it because I want to, not because I should be doing it."

Russell Brand Faces Lawsuit Yet AGAIN After Hitting Pedestrian

Russell Brand

Russell Brand is being sued for $25,000 by a pedestrian who was allegedly hit by his car in Los Angeles back in January.

The British funnyman is facing yet another lawsuit only months after being forced to pay out $500 and do 20 hours of community service when he threw an iPhone belonging to a paparazzo through the window of a building. This time, according to a copy of the lawsuit filed by LA County Superior Court that TMZ managed to get their hands on, Brand was driving 'negligently' which caused him to hit a pedestrian by the name of Victor Sneed who has claimed that he was injured as a result of the collision, had damage done to personal property and was landed with subsequent hospital bills. He also claimed that he 'lost wages' following the incident.

Trouble with the law has been a prominent factor in Mr Brand's life. Even though his hellraising days are over, he still can't seem to stay out of controversy; apart from the two incidents mentioned above, he has also been arrested for battery after allegedly attacking a photographer who stood in his way as he attempted to board a flight with his then fiancé Katy Perry and he, alongside Jonathan Ross, also caused the BBC to be fined £150,000 in 2008 when the presenters left a vile voicemail to comedy legend Andrew Sachs regarding Brand's relationship with his granddaughter.

Awkward? Katy Perry And Russell Brand Attend Same Lakers Game

Katy Perry Russell Brand David Beckham Adam Levine Jack Nicholson Zac Efron

Katy Perry and Russell Brand's PR people are clearly no longer communicating, with the pair only just avoiding a potentially disastrous reunion this week. Both stars - who divorced earlier this year - attended the same Los Angeles Lakers season opener on Tuesday (October 30, 2012), though just happened to be seated at opposite sides of the court.

According to E! Online, there was no indication that the pair interacted, with Katy attending the game with her father. Comedian Brand sat between two unknown youngers, though later chatted with footballers David Beckham and Robbie Keane, who were there with Adam Levine and his girlfriend. Elsewhere, Hollywood legend Jack Nicholson looked as mischievous as ever - fittingly wearing a jack-o-lantern - and heartthrob Zac Efron also enjoyed the match courtside, which the Lakers lost to Dallas.

Brand and Perry married in a lavish ceremony in India in October 2010, after first meeting at the MTV Video Music Awards the previous year. Cracks in their relationship circulated right from the start, and the pair split after a year of marriage. Since their divorce, Perry has dated the Florence and the Machine guitarist Rob Ackroyd and is currently with singer John Mayer.

Russell Brand In Trouble Again: Brand Is Being Sued For Injuring A Security Guard

Russell Brand

Victor Sneed, with a name worthy of Royston Vasey, is suing Russell Brand for allegedly running into him with his car earlier this year.

Sneed is looking for over $25,000 in compensation. This sum is for hospital bills and loss of earnings as a result of his injuries, as well as legal costs- that would be non-existant were he not suing the Get Him to the Greek actor. TMZ have reported that Brand was trying to escape paparazzi in his Range Rover. Sneed's lawyer Bob Fink has contacted the website telling them that the ex-security guard is currently in a leg brace and potentially needing surgery. At the time Brand sent one of his employees to exchange details with the man, with the view to settle the ordeal outside insurance and court. Alas, that hasn't materialised. Nevertheless, it does seem dubious that the incident was alleged to have occurred in January of this year, yet the victims proceedings seem to have taken 8 months to materialise. No one would put it past Brand to be a negligent driver, nevertheless, something smells a bit fishy.

TMZ got hold of the documents, but you can see scans of them here

Russell Brand was recently snapped chatting to friends, before getting into his brand new 4x4.
Brand appreciates the finer things in life, as he recently revealed that he didn't do so well at school. He sent a tweet out to UK students who got their A-Level results yesterday, but told them not to worry too much, because he failed all his and still managed to snag Katy Perry. The tweet read: "British youths! Good luck with your A Levels, but don't take it too seriously. I've got none and still married a pop star."

Dame Helen Mirren And Russell Brand Take On The Tempest

Helen Mirren Beatles Djimon Hounsou Geoffrey Rush Jeremy Irons Julie Taymor Russell Brand

Dame Helen Mirren and Russell Brand are among the cast members of an experimental upcoming film of Shakespeare's The Tempest.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Julie Taymor's take on the Bard sees Mirren as Prospera, a female version of Prospero, the exiled duke of the original play.

Brand is to play Trinculo, a jester, while Jeremy Irons, Djimon Hounsou and Ben Whishaw have also been confirmed for the Icon film.

In Shakespeare's original text, Prospero and his daughter Miranda (Felicity Jones) are exiled to a distant island inhabited only by deformed slave Caliban (Hounsou) and Ariel, a spirit (Whishaw).

Having learnt to control the island with magic, Prospero seizes the chance to wreak revenge on her usurpers by raising a storm which leaves them shipwrecked, sparking a romance between Miranda and the son of Prospero's greatest rival Alonso, the King of Naples (Irons).

Alfred Molina is also on board, playing the drunken butler Stephano while Oscar-winner Geoffrey Rush is in negotiations to play Gonzalo, a royal adviser and former alley of Prospero's.

Director Taymor's only significant change to the text, as of yet, seems to be the feminising of Prospero's character.

Likely to begin shooting in November, The Tempest will be the Oscar-nominated helmer's first film since 2007's Beatles musical Across the Universe.
