Rutina Wesley, who plays Tara Thornton on HBO's hit series True Blood, is ending her marriage after 8 years.

According to People magazine, papers filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court show that Rutina and husband Jacob Fisher sought to end their marriage on August 16, 2013, scribbling down irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split.

It's all happened pretty quickly and is, well, all kind of sad. The couple were married back in 2005, though have been separated since July. They have no children together and Wesley has asked that Fisher be denied spousal support.

Back in 2010, the actress gushed about her former Julliard grad school peer, telling Essence magazine, "We thought, 'If we could spend four years together at this crazy school, then we can make it the rest of our lives.' He's an amazing actor, cook and husband. I enjoy him immensely."

Though best known for True Blood, Wesley is a skilled stage actress and featured in David Hare's The Vertical Hour in 2006 and a production of In Darfur, by Winter Miller, in 2007.

She landed a minor role in the Will Smith movie Hitch, though was edited out in the final cut. However, she made her screen debut in the lead role of Ian Iqbal Rashid's movie How She Move, about a woman who enters a step dancing competition to secure funds for her education.

It was after that movie that she auditioned for the part of Tara Thornton on True Blood, with creator Alan Ball saying she chose her because "[she] was the first person who showed [Tara's] vulnerable side."
