As the 89th Academy Awards descended into the greatest chaos of any ceremony in living memory, there was one star that seems to have come out of the mess a little better than most. La La Land main man Ryan Gosling reacted with barely concealed amusement to the gaffe surrounding the Best Picture Award and has been catapulted into the running to be the next James Bond as a result.

Huge confusion on Sunday night (26 Feb) led to multi-award winning musical, La La Land being announced as Best Picture winner before it was actually revealed Moonlight had taken the top spot.

Ryan and co were already on stage and producers were in the middle of their acceptance speeches before the mistake was realised and total chaos ensued.

While Gosling’s co star, Emma Stone, was a vision of absolute shock, Ryan could be seen chuckling at the colossal mistake.

Bookmakers at William Hill have now slashed the 36-year-old’s odds of becoming Daniel Craig’s successor from 14/1 to 10/1.

A spokesman for William Hill said of the actor, who had attended the awards with his sister Mandi, said: "Ryan Gosling showed an admirable sense of humour and his composure was worthy of Mr Bond - the coolest cucumber of the lot."
