Ryan Phillippe blames immaturity for his split with ex-wife Reese Witherspoon.

The 40-year-old actor met the 'Wild' star, 39, on her 21st birthday, married her in 1999 and divorced her eight years later, and he believes it was their young age that caused their break-up.

Speaking on 'Larry King Now', he explained: ''I think more of the problem was age. When we got together we were so young. I think it can create issues with two people in this industry because there's so much noise that goes along with it.''

However, the hunk has insisted he and the actress are ''still friends'' and have remained amicable since their split for the benefit of their children Ava, 15, and Deacon, 11.

Despite his turbulent love life, Ryan isn't worried for when Ava starts dating because he believes she's got high standards.

He explained: ''I grew up in a very, very female household so I have a real sensitivity with that connection because of that. I don't think she'll suffer fools. She's going to have high standards.''

Meanwhile, Ryan also has daughter Kailani, three, with Alexis Knapp and has been in a relationship with civil rights lawyer Paulina Slagter for the past four years.

Reese, on the other hand, had a two-year romance with Jake Gyllenhaal before meeting CAA agent Jim Toth and marrying him in 2011. The couple have two-year-old son Tennessee together.
