'American Idol' Whittles Its Final Thirteen, Including First Openly Gay Contestant

Jennifer Lopez Harry Connick Jr. Ryan Seacrest

American Idol has selected its final 13 as the singing competition's strongest contestants emerge to battle it out in the final weeks. Before things get viciously competitive and exhaustingly emotional in those last few episodes, let's take stock of the last lucky 13.

American Idol Judges
This Week, The Judges Had To Whittle 20 Singers Down To 13.

This series of American Idol is momentous for having had the first openly gay contestant get this far. Contestant MK Nobilette, who says she has "two moms," has won over American voters with her likeable demeanour, not to mention some serious singing talent to boot. After the public picked her as one of their top ten, it is likely MK will get a lot further or even go all the way as one of the favorites to win.

The Million Second Quiz Set To Change The Outlook Of Game Show History

Ryan Seacrest

The Million Second Quiz debuted as one of the most anticipated game shows television history last night. The new show is hosted by Ryan Seacrest and millions were expected to tune to see what the chatter was really about.

Did the show live up to the hype?

A game show called 'The Million Second Quiz' doesn't really give a clear idea about the premise or anything else for that matter. The show runs for one million seconds (surprisingly), which is approximately 11 and a half days and contestants will be constantly battling for a cash prize of up to $10 million.

Ryan Seacrest, Lady Gaga Clown Around With Face Paint To Re-Create 'Applause' Artwork

Lady GaGa Ryan Seacrest

Ryan Seacrest, Lady GaGa and a palette of face paint; a surefire way to whip up excitement for her new release, and maybe annoy the cleaners a little bit too. On Monday (12 August), Gaga dropped by Seacrest's radio show to drop her brand new track, 'Applause,' three days after the song leaked online. Unperturbed, the singer continued her promotional drive with the new track, which included a visit to Seacrest's radio show to discuss the single and her upcoming album, and give Seacrest a make-over in the process.

Lady Gaga In Applause Make-Up
The singer took a unique approach to promoting her new material

Gaga arrived at the station in full 'Applause' make-up, a look that she continued to rock throughout the day, and couldn't help but make Ryan a little more Gaga by recreating her own look on his face. Seacrest later uploaded an image of the two in full 'Applause' make-up on to his Instagram page, after airing the song for the first time on radio. He captioned the picture; "One of us was born this way, one of us needed to be touched up."

Having debuted her new song, We Can’t Stop, on Ryan Seacrest’s Radio Show following her stint as a guest, the 20-year-old singer has been tweeting her fans, getting them excited for the video, which is due for release next week.

"Just watched #wecantstop 1st edit #musicvideo #riDONKulous," Miley posted, whetting her fans’ appetites no end. The former Disney star has also been making people guess at her love life; when posing for snaps outside KIIS-FM – wearing a rather revealing white crop-top ensemble – she drew the paps’ attention to a bracelet with the word ‘Nick’ emblazoned on it. Now, she used to date Jonas Brothers star Nick, but we don’t know if she’s talking about the same guy, but, either way, it plunges the state of her relationship with fiancé Liam Hemsworth into non-repair zone. Reports suggest that the pair are living separately after Liam had told his fellow pop star fiancée they were finished for good.

So, Candice Glover Just Won American Idol, Right?

American Idol Candice Glover Ryan Seacrest

Candice Glover and Kree Harrison squared off in an all-female American Idol final on Wednesday (May 15, 2013) with Ryan Seacrest proclaiming the night to be country versus soul. On one side, there's the gleaming country balladry of Harrison, against the wide-ranging soul of Glover.

Both competitors brought their A-game, though Glover appeared to edge it. In the first sing-off, she sang Adele's 'Chasing Pavements,' while Harrison opted for the all-too obvious Angel. In the next round, Harrison opted for 'All Cried Out' while Glover went for 'I Am Beautiful' which Billboard said was, "perfectly expressed the kind of music Glover could be doing in a few months, highlighting her strong R&B tendencies with an empowering chorus that dispels all detractors." In the third and final sing-off, both performers were asked to choose their favourite song of the season, with Kree choosing 'Up To The Mountain' - which she first sang in the Hollywood round - and Candice choosing the Tom Jones track 'I (Who Have Nothing).

"The dramatic intensity was in full force, a lone timpani accompanying Glover as she actually topped her earlier version of the song (which was a tall, tall order), with some of the runs and held notes absolutely blowing the doors off the Nokia Theater. Absolutely killer," said Billboard.

'Draw Something' To Move From Your Phone Screen, To The TV Screen

Ryan Seacrest

We’ve all sat there, staring at our screen with a blank expression on our face while our friend conjures up a spotty washing machine and texts you saying, “it was the Lion King”.

It doesn’t make any sense, we know; trouble is, though, that’s a true story. But know we can just watch other people stare blankly on our television screens, as Draw Something (the game) will become Draw Something (The CBS TV show). Pictionary must be so, so, so annoyed. Although they had their turn in the 80s and couldn’t make it work. Zynga bought Draw Something and OMGPOP - the company that created it - a few months ago for the princely sum of $180 million. Still, considering they were also behind Words With Friends, a similar game but, you guess it, with words, it seems like snapping up one of the biggest mobile game developers wasn’t such a bad idea, even at that price. And the news of a TV show vindicates that. So far, no one knows who’ll host the show, and even though it’s being produced by Sony Pictures Television, Ryan Seacrest Productions and Embassy Row, Seacrest isn’t considered to be in the running.

It’s a huge time for mobile gaming, with Angry Birds having lead the way for years. But with internet connectivity on phones reaching unparalleled speeds with 4G, social mobile gaming seems to be the direction to go.

Ryan Seacrest Falls Victim To 'Swatting' Craze: Is This Prank Still Funny?

Ryan Seacrest Justin Bieber Rihanna Ashton Kutcher Chris Brown Justin Timberlake

And so Ryan Seacrest is the latest victim of the 'swatting' craze. In case you're unaware with the prank, 'swatting' sees a member of the public make a hoax 911 call reporting an incident at the home of a famous celebrity. Usually, the 'emergency' is something to do with firearms, meaning SWAT teams are dispatched to the address. In recent months, Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Justin Timberlake, Miley Cyrus, Chris Brown, the Kardashians, Tom Cruise and Ashton Kutcher have been those targeted by celebrities. Ok, so it's hilarious when it happens to Bieber, but is this joke really that funny anymore?

According to CNN, a police squadron arrived at Seacrest's home in Beverly Hills at about 2.40pm on Wednesday (April 10, 2013) after a report claimed armed men were shooting their way into the American Idol hosts home. Police found Seacrest at home, but no trouble.

Russell Brand's Hollywood Hills home was a target on Monday afternoon, when a 911 caller told the Los Angeles Police Department emergency dispatcher that a man with guns was in the house. Given the short space of time between incidents, the cases could be links. "It's a very high-risk response," said Los Angeles County sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore, "The problem with crying wolf is that sometimes it's not false, so we always have to respond accordingly but cautiously."

Split Between Ryan Seacrest And Julianne Hough: The Most Civil Breakup Ever?

Ryan Seacrest Julianne Hough

Ryan Seacrest and girlfriend Jennifer Hough have decided to take a break from their relationship.

After dating for more than two years, the media mogul and American Idol host and his actress and Dancing with the Stars pro girlfriend are calling it quits in order to take care of themselves and their respective careers, People magazine reports. "It's a hard thing to do, especially when you're so caught up in your work and bettering yourself," Hough recently told PARADE. "I think at the end of the day you have to find a balance with what's really important." Apparently, this no longer includes their relationship.

This comes as a bit of a surprise, as there has been no indication of any trouble between the two. In fact, just after the new year, Hough and Seacrest took a special romantic trip to St. Barts together, where they appeared to be more in love than ever. The fast pace of Hollywood has taken its toll on the relationship though and now the pair are calling it quits. Well, a break isn’t the same as a breakup anyway, right? And even if it is, at least these two are being remarkably civil about the whole thing, unlike some other Hollywood couples that come to mind. And there have been no songs written about the whole thing (yet).

Julianne Hough Leaves Jewelry Worth $100,000 In Car: Guess What Happened?

Julianne Hough Ryan Seacrest

Julianne Hough is reeling from having $100,000 worth of jewelry stolen from her car on Friday night (March 8, 2013). The actress - the girlfriend of Ryan Seacrest - was in Hollywood visiting a friend in an apartment complex, parking her Mercedes in the lot while leaving three pieces of jewellery inside the car, jewellery that Ryan had given to her.

According to TMZ.com, Julianne returned to the vehicle a few hours later, only to find the door wide open and her jewels nowhere to be seen. It's unclear whether Hough left the door unlocked, though there were no visible signs of forced entry. Though specifics are sketchy, there were 3 pieces of jewelry in the car, carrying a total value of 100k. One of the items was a watch worth $50,000 alone. Hough has not commented publically on the matter, though a police investigation is currently underway into the alleged theft.

We're guessing Seacrest isn't going to be too happy if it's discovered that Julianne left the door unlocked, though we can't imagine it'll take him long to make $100,000 and buy his girlfriend a whole new set of jewels. Maybe 24 hours, if that.

Demi Lovato's New Single, 'Heart Attack', Leaks Online A Week Before Intended Premiere

Demi Lovato Ryan Seacrest Britney Spears La Reid Simon Cowell

Demi Lovato fans were treated to the early unveiling of her new song, 'Heart Attack', one week before the song was due to air on Ryan Seacrest's KiisFM radio show after it was uploaded on to YouTube by her official channel.

The singer had uploaded a snippet of the new track online two week ago, but clearly this wasn't enough for the insatiable fans of the former Disney starlet. The song, produced by the Suspex, is quite a departure from the sombre 'Skyscrapers' that led off her last album, with 'Heart Attack' taking on a much more electro-pop centric sound than the first single from 2011's Unbroken. In addition to the YouTube video, Lovato also made the new single available to download from iTunes and it is believed that her upcoming fourth album, which is currently untitled, will be ready to release in spring.

Away from her own musical projects, Demi is still to confirm her place on the judging panel of the next season of The X Factor. In light of the departure of Britney Spears and La Reid from the singing contest at the end of last season, there were suspicions that Demi may follow suit, but the singer has remained silent on the subject since the last season ended. Demi joined the show along with Britney in autumn last year, with a new series of Simon Cowell's America Idol spin-off expected to air later this year.

Ellen DeGeneres Chats To Ryan Seacrest About American Idol, Julianne Hough And Proposals

Ellen Degeneres Ryan Seacrest Julianne Hough

Ellen Degeneres and Ryan Seacrest are friends 'in real life', so when he came to chat to her on her show, Ellen, plenty of anecdotes came spilling out in the conversation.

Ellen told her audience about a joint birthday party between herself and her wife Portia de Rossi in which Jennifer Aniston's fiancée Justin Theroux was persuaded to do some breakdancing, reports People. That's the kind of friends Ellen DeGeneres has. Anyway, never one to be outdone, Seacrest's girlfriend, ballroom dancer, singer and actress, Julianne Hough gave Theroux a dance off.

"[They] decided to have a breakdancing break-off," DeGeneres said. "[Julianne] was wearing a skirt and goes, 'I need pants.' ... She and Justin Theroux had a huge dance-off. It was crazy... She's an amazing dancer." A statement which Seacrest heartily agreed with. Apparently, Hough is "amazing at literally everything."

Julianne Hough Was Mentally And Physically Abused In London

Julianne Hough Ryan Seacrest Josh Duhamel

Julianne Hough, the Hollywood actress and dancer, has revealed how she was physically and mentally abused during a five-year scholarship in London when just 10-years-old. Hough - the girlfriend of media mogul Ryan Seacrest - told Cosmopolitan magazine that her time at the Italia Conti Academy of the Arts turned into a nightmare after she had made the long journey from Utah.

"I was abused, mentally, physically, everything," she explained, adding that it got worse "when I started hitting puberty, when I started becoming a woman and stopped being a little girl." The 24-year-old, who recently rode out Superstorm Sandy in a New York hotel room, said, "I was told if I ever went back to the United States, three things were going to happen. One: I was going to amount to nothing. Two: I was going to work at Whataburger. And three: I was going to end up a slut. So, it was like, I can't go back. I have to be this person."

Of course, Hough returned to her native USA and rose to become one of the most popular dancers in the country. In recent years, she's made high profile movie appearances (Footloose, Rock of Ages) and stars opposite Josh Duhamel in Safe Haven, a new romance that hits cinemas on Valentine's Day.

Taylor Swift performs at New Year's Rockin' Even in Times Square, NY. She wasn't just making headlines for her singing though...

They became two of the biggest pop stars in the world during 2012, so it was only fitting that Taylor Swift and Carly Rae Jepsen were on hand to bring the curtain down on 2012 at the famous New Year's Rockin' Eve televised event in New York's Times Square. Perhaps the real success of the night however was the ABC's host Ryan Seacrest who - with help from Jenny McCarthy - did the late great Dick Clark proud in hosting proceedings in the first Rockin' Eve to be held since the veteran's death last year.

Ryan Seacrest Hard At Work On First Rockin' Eve Without Dick Clark

Ryan Seacrest Dick Clark Carly Rae Jepsen Taylor Swift Flo Rida

ABC’s NYE programming will feature a 2-hour tribute to the late Dick Clark, right before its annual Rockin’ New Year special, hosted by Ryan Seacrest.

"I'd like to say I can imagine how it's going to feel, but I'm not quite sure," says Seacrest, quoted by The Associated Press. "I looked forward so much to each year that I did the show with him."

Seacrest is using the sad fact of Clark’s passing as motivation to make this year’s Rockin’ Eve better than ever in tribute. The presenter is reportedly hard at work, hammering out the “nitty-gritty” around the show, which will air from 8pm on the 31st, up until 2am on New Year’s Day. A host of A-list performance have already been booked, like Carly Rae Jepsen, Neon Trees, Flo Rida and Pitbull. Taylor Swift, who has arguably been one of 2012’s biggest success stories, will fill the headlining slot right before midnight. The show will air live, as usual, from Times Square in New York, but without Clark as a host there will undoubtedly have to be some changes.

It's (Practically) Official: Simon Cowell And Carmen Electra Are Dating!

Simon Cowell Carmen Electra Ryan Seacrest

The year may be almost over, but Simon Cowell and Carmen Electra look to have gotten in just in time to claim this years award for 'weirdest celebrity couple,' after rumours that the pair are seeing each other have all but been confirmed by them both.

Speaking to Ryan Seacrest on his KiisFM show this Wednesday (Dec 19), the music mogul revealed "She's not my girlfriend. We're people who date. She's adorable, isn't she?"

The highly unexpected pair first met when Carmen filled in for Kelly Brook on Britain's Got Talent a few years ago (because who knows talent better than a model right?), and the pair have apparently been seeing more and more of each other of the months and were even spotted (supposedly) locking lips in a LA restaurant early in the autumn.

Stevie Wonder Pays Homage To His Friend Dick Clark

Stevie Wonder Dick Clark Ryan Seacrest

Last night's American Music Awards saw the show's creator, the late Dick Clarke, honoured by Stevie Wonder, as the legendary musician paid tribute to his friend in song, and spoken word.

"Truly honored to have been asked, because that spirit I knew and saw on television was his real spirit in real life. Meeting him as a person was wonderful," said Wonder to Rolling Stone on the opportunity to perform. "He brought musicians, artists and songwriters of all the various genres together, and we perform in the spirit of music," he said. "It's a challenge to Americans and world leaders to do the same." Ryan Seacrest - who in recent years hosted New Year's Rockin' Eve with Clark - introduced Wonder, first offering up words of admiration for his late friend and peer. "I was in awe of [Clark's] star quality and how completely comfortable he was in front of the camera," Seacrest said. "Even when I got to know him well and count him and his wife Carrie as friends, I never lost that sense of awe." Seacrest said the American Music Awards was a fitting platform on which to honor Clark. "This show, on its 40th anniversary, still reflects Dick's original vision: bringing the top artists on the planet together on an equal stage," Seacrest said. "Dick loved the power of music and its ability to create pure joy. That's why we're going to use music tonight to celebrate the joy of his life."

Dick Clark died aged 82 on April 18, 2012, after suffering a heart attack following surgery to fix an enlarged prostate, a transurethral resection of the prostate.

New Host Opens Up To Ryan Seacrest About X-Factor Fear

Khloe Kardashian Ryan Seacrest Mario Lopez

New X-Factor host Khloe Kardashian phoned into Ryan Seacrest's radio show to talk about her recent X-Factor gig, and has admitted to being daunted by the task, E! reports.

First, though, she had to dispel the myth that she knew about her new role all along. "I'm not a liar. I like to say what it is. Everyone thought that I was just BS-ing everyone," she explains. "They were like, 'So you got the job?' I was like, 'I promise you, no one has confirmed anything with me. I would tell everyone if I did!' I was just waiting for someone to tell me, but everyone knew before me!" Even though she won't be alone in hosting the popular talent show, with Mario Lopez set to halve the duties with her, Khloe is still scared of what she has to do. "I'm so sick to my stomach that I have to be by his side. You know when you're that unattractive it's just hard to be with someone," she joked.

But in all seriousness, she's glad of the co-host. "I mean, he's seriously the nicest guy ever. I'm in good company," she says. "He's great at what he does, so it takes some of the pressure off of me because I am nervous. I've never hosted before. I think we're going to have fun; we've known each other for a while. I feel I'll be comfortable around him, so he'll make it easy for me."

Nicki Minaj And Mariah Carey: The Tension Rises.

Nicki Minaj Mariah Carey Keith Urban Ryan Seacrest

American Idol judges Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey have been struggling to remain civil with one another, but now the tension may be getting out of hand, reports The Sun Times.

A video obtained by TMZ had previously shown Minaj shouting that she's "not f---in' putting up with Her F---ing Highness over there," and now a source close to the action has confirmed that the drama was once manageable, but is now getting out of hand. "This is really starting to get nasty. . A bit of controversy is OK - even good - because it adds spice to the show," explained the source. However, if it gets too intense and their true dislike for each other becomes obvious - and continuously obvious - then that moves into the uncomfortable stage for the viewers," they added. Fox have declined to comment both the video, and the state of affairs that lead to Minaj and Carey's fiery showdown, presumably because of the rumours that the events are being fabricated for publicity. But they are just that: rumours. Another source, this one close to judge Keith Urban, said: "Keith is such a wonderful, easygoing, lovely guy. This kind of drama was not the reason he signed on to be an 'Idol' judge. . He hates nastiness in any form."

Ryan Seacrest, though, as the host of the show, thinks the tension is a good thing. " 'Idol' needs some passionate debate. It did get intense. We want that. . The feedback that they give is very good," he explained on his radio show yesterday (October 4th, 2012).

Nicki Minaj Was ‘Inspired’ By American Idol

Nicki Minaj American Idol Ryan Seacrest Mariah Carey Jordin Sparks

Nicki Minaj has been reminiscing about her early impressions of American Idol, now that she’s a bona fide member of the panel, reports MTV.

"I remember watching 'American Idol' in the first season and feeling inspired," Minaj said on Monday during a press conference "I spoke to [season 6 winner] Jordin Sparks the other day and here she is starring in a movie ['Sparkle'] and I said to her, 'I remember watching you and picking up my phone." Minaj didn’t actually vote, but recalled how fond her family were of Sparks. "Because my little brother was more obsessed over the Blake person because he was like, more, you know, hip-hop, whatever," she said, "But I told her [Sparks] that, 'you know you're a part of history, kind of. Because I remember calling and seeing your face and being inspired and hearing your story."

It hasn’t taken Minaj long to settle in to her new role, and she’s even began making waves with the other judges, namely, Mariah Carey. The two just can’t seem to get along as they squabble and interrupt each other, but Ryan Seacrest thinks there’s nothing to worry about. “There are not too many dull moments between the two of them,” Seacrest explained to NBC’s Tonight Show, “but at the end of the day, we all hug and laugh and go home and get ready for another day. They get along fine, but they're strong and candid in their opinion."

Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj Feud Played Down By Ryan Seacrest

Mariah Carey Nicki Minaj Ryan Seacrest American Idol

Ryan Seacrest, speaking to NBC’s Today Show, dampened the rumours that Mariah Carey and Nicky Minaj were embattled in a ‘diva-off’ whilst they both perform judging roles on American Idol.

“There are not too many dull moments between the two of them,” Seacrest explained, “but at the end of the day, we all hug and laugh and go home and get ready for another day. They get along fine, but they're strong and candid in their opinion." The reported trouble has allegedly stemmed from the fact that both Carey and Minaj want to be centre of attention, as they interrupted each other, disagreed and generally painted a picture of discontent on last week’s Idol, but according to Seacrest, the pair get along fine. “Mariah and Nicki might never be best friends, but they can work together,” a source close to the talent said. “If Nicki can work with Madonna, she can work with Mariah.”

“Mariah is old-school, where everything starts and ends with the voice,” another source close to production told The Huffington Post. “Nicki is looking for talent that catches her eye. She is far more interested in the whole package rather than just the ability to sing.” Fox might be secretly hoping that the so-called vendetta continues, as nothing spells high ratings than two of the biggest women in music disagreeing on live television.

Jennifer Aniston Pregnant With Triplets (Kind Of)

Jennifer Aniston Ryan Seacrest Justin Theroux Jimmy Kimmel

Jennifer Aniston pregnant with twins? We practically heard the tabloid editors drooling onto their crumby keyboards after reading the headlines online early on Tuesday (September 18, 2012).

Well it seemed Aniston had everyone fooled (for about 3 seconds), before it became apparent that she and SmartWater had made another viral video in promotion of the water company. The latest effort actually pokes fun at the many rumours that frequently circulate about the star’s personal life and is designed to look like security footage. The former Friends star shows off her knack for comedy in the clip, taking several shots at her own expense and showing off her collection of wigs as well as debuting her grown-up son named, err, Jimmy Kimmel. The clip begins with Ryan Seacrest delivering the “breaking news” that Aniston’s home security tapes had been stolen and “leaked online by an unknown source”. The actress – sporting a large baby bump – says, “How are my little triplets doing? You must be so thirsty,” before chugging down on a bottle of – you guessed it – SmartWater. The clip ends with Aniston saying “Good night, Rachel,” to herself in the mirror.

Aniston – now engaged to screenwriter Justin Theroux - is currently shooting the forthcoming comedy ‘We’re The Millers’, about a veteran pot dealer who creates a fake family as part of his plan to move a huge shipment of weed into the U.S. from Mexico.

Video - Nigel Lythgoe, David Boreanaz And Randy Jackson Arrive At 2012 Fox Upfront Part 2
