Biography

Salma Hayek Jiménez (born September 2nd, 1966) is a Mexican actress, director and producer.

Career: At the age of 23, Hayek landed the title role in Teresa (1989), a successful Mexican telenovela that made her a star in Mexico.

To further her home country stardom, in 1994, she went on to star in the film El Callejón de los Milagros (Miracle Alley), which won more awards than any other movie in the history of Mexican cinema. For her performance, Hayek was nominated for an Ariel Award.

Hollywood: Hayek moved to Los Angeles, California in 1991 to study acting and build a career in Hollywood. Despite her limited fluency in English, Hayek got the break she needed starring opposite Antonio Banderas in 1995's Desperado.

Hayek followed her success in Desperado with roles in From Dusk Till Dawn (1996), Wild Wild West (1999) and Dogma (1999) that saw her climb the ranks of global celebrity.

In 2003, she reprised her role from Desperado by appearing in Once Upon a Time in Mexico, the final film of the Mariachi Trilogy.

Personal life: Hayek dated actor Edward Norton between 1999 and 2003 and then Josh Lucas in 2003.

In 2007, Hayek confirmed she was expecting her first child with fiancé - PPR CEO François-Henri Pinault. On September 21st, 2007, she gave birth to daughter Valentina Paloma Pinault.

On July 18th, 2008 she and François-Henri Pinault announced the end of their engagement.

Hayek is also heavily involved in charitable work, which includes increasing awareness of violence against women and discrimination against immigrants.

Trivia: Hayek is an executive producer of popular television series - Ugly Betty.

She is the first Mexican national to be nominated for a Best Actress Oscar.

Hayek has a tattoo on her left arm of the word 'Asbestos', attributing it to an awareness campaign aimed at the dangers of asbestos water pipes.

Before acting she was an accomplished gymnast aspiring to compete in the Olympic Games, but her father prevented her from being recruited by the Mexican national team.

A 2007 MSNBC poll found Hayek to be the "sexiest celebrity" out of a field of 3,000 celebrities (male and female). According to the poll, "65 percent of the U.S. population would use the term 'sexy' to describe her".

Oprah Believes Reese Witherspoon Was Suffering From PTSD After Weinstein Scandal

Reese Witherspoon Oprah Winfrey Salma Hayek Harvey Weinstein

Oprah Winfrey has said that she believes Reese Witherspoon was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder in the days after the Harvey Weinstein sexual abuse scandal broke last year.

The legendary presenter said in her Super Soul Sunday Conversation special podcast with Salma Hayek that she believed that Witherspoon was acting in a very strange way in the days following the scandal breaking back in October, according to Entertainment Tonight.

“Everyone, including Reese – I’ve said this to her – was acting like, I was seeing some of the girls at my school behave, who were suffering from PTSD. Everybody was acting like they were afraid and they were having the conversation,” Winfrey said in the conversation.

Salma Hayek Pens Essay Detailing Alleged Sexual Harassment By Harvey Weinstein

Salma Hayek Harvey Weinstein

Salma Hayek has added her voice to those of the dozens of women who have accused Harvey Weinstein of sexual abuse, saying in a new op-ed piece that, “for years”, the disgraced movie producer was “my monster”.

On Wednesday (December 13th), the 51 year old star penned a lengthy essay for the New York Times detailing her ordeals with Weinstein on the 2002 Miramax movie Frida. In it, she gave a detailed account of her history with Weinstein, including allegedly inappropriate on-set demands she refused to co-operate with during shooting of the movie.

They included her saying “No” to “opening the door to him at all hours of the night, hotel after hotel, location after location, where he would show up unexpectedly, including one location where I was doing a movie he wasn’t even involved with. No to me taking a shower with him. No to letting him watch me take a shower. No to letting him give me a massage. No to letting a naked friend of his give me a massage. No to letting him give me oral sex. No to my getting naked with another woman.”

The Hitman's Bodyguard Review

Very Good

It really doesn't matter that this movie is utterly ridiculous, because the central pairing of Ryan Reynolds with Samuel L. Jackson is so entertaining that we never want it to end. Director Patrick Hughes (The Expendables 3) keeps the action so insanely energetic that we're not quite sure where to look. But at the centre of the mayhem Reynolds and Jackson are having so much fun that we can't wipe the smiles off our faces.

Reynolds plays London-based security expert Michael, whose high-flying career was derailed two years ago and stubbornly refuses to get back on track. Then his Interpol agent ex-girlfriend Amelia (Elodie Yung) offers him a job escorting the ruthless assassin Darius (Jackson) from his British prison cell to The Hague, where he's needed to testify against murderous Belarusian warlord Dukhovich (Gary Oldman) in a war crimes trial. So far, Dukhovich's militia has made sure no witnesses have made it to the courtroom, so Michael has his work cut out for him. Meanwhile, Darius is trying to get in touch with his wife Sonia (Salma Hayek), who is in prison in Amsterdam and lovingly calls him an unkillable cockroach.

All of this unfolds at a breakneck pace, with a flurry of hyper-violent shootouts, chases and fistfights. Cars fly in every direction as passers-by run for cover, bullets fly in every direction, and pretty much everything on-screen explodes into a huge ball of flames. It's so cartoonish that it's impossible to take even remotely seriously. So we just laugh along with Ryan and Jackson, as they bicker and fight, then bond over flashbacks into their amusingly messy love lives. Both are swaggering alpha-males who don't take instructions from anyone, so their interaction is feisty and funny. The supporting cast of glowering villains and secretive agents barely gets a chance to register, although Hayek nearly walks off with the movie in a riotously scene-stealing turn that leaves us wanting her to get a film of her own.

Beatriz At Dinner Trailer

Beatriz is a holistic healer trained in massage, reiki and other therapies who is invited to stay for dinner at her rich clients' - Cathy and Grant's - home after her car breaks down. They're having guests over for a party and once they start arriving she couldn't look more out of place with her bare face, casual clothes and 5 foot 2 stature. The guests try and be polite towards this woman, who could clearly never be a part of their own social circles, but she's strangely drawn to one guest in particular; Grant's business partner Doug Strutt. As the evening wears on and the guests get progressively more drunk, she starts to sense a prejudice in the air in regards to both her nationality and her career choice. But her own prejudices come to the forefront when she discovers Doug's passion for hunting, and her disgust is something she just can't hide.

The Hitmans Bodyguard Trailer

An AAA-rated executive protection agent (Ryan Reynolds) is charged with protecting the most wanted hitman (Samuel L. Jackson) in the world. That might seem like a crazy concept - I mean, why would an assassin need a bodyguard? - but as it turns out, he's quite the liability. He's impulsive, volatile and damn rude, and very likely to get them both killed. Unfortunately, there's nothing this protection agent can do about his new client; he has to work with him and they must put aside their differences if they want to defeat a ruthless Eastern European dictator (Gary Oldman) and testify at the International Court of Justice. It's a 24 hour rollercoaster ride for these completely contrasting personalities, complete with death defying car chases and reckless escape stunts.

Lessons In Love Trailer

Richard Haig is a remarkably intelligent, charming, ageing poetry professor, whose life away from the classroom at Cambridge is one of constant hedonism and an unquenchable lust for women. He thinks nothing of sleeping with his attractive grad student Kate and even shamelessly makes a move on her hardlined older sister Olivia, much to her displeasure. Richard is forced to confront the consequences of his over-indulgent behaviour when Kate announces she's pregnant with his child. While fatherhood has never appealed to him much, he is ready to settle down, get married and experience family life, but when Kate falls in love with somebody else, it becomes clear that he's still got a long way to go before he can be considered a responsible person. Kate allows their son to stay with Richard, but only under the supervision of Olivia, who's about to teach Richard more about life and romance than he's ever taught about poetry.

Heidi Klum Donald Trump Megyn Kelly Salma Hayek

Heidi Klum isn’t taking any of Donald Trump’s nonsense and she’s become the latest in a line of women to stand up to the misogynistic Republican candidate. In a recent interview, Trump was attempting to backtrack on his recent comments about women but he failed, quite miserably, when he started rating the supermodel on her looks. He claimed “she’s no longer a 10.”
