San Fermin Announce New Single 'Methuselah' Plus UK And European Tour Dates For April And May 2014

Following the success of their first ever UK tour in November 2013, Brooklyn-based San Fermin are set to return to Europe for a series of live dates in April and May 2014, including a headline show at London's Village Underground on May 7th. To conincide with these live dates San Fermin have announced the single release of album highlight 'Methuselah' on May 5th, an evocative ballad about losing touch with things you thought you loved and creating fictions to replace them.

Helmed by 24-year-old composer and songwriter Ellis Ludwig-Leone, San Fermin released their self-titled debut album in November 2013 via Downtown Records. The album gained worldwide critical acclaim and was lauded as one of the most remarkable debuts of 2013.

After studying music composition and graduating from Yale University in 2011, Ludwig-Leone travelled to the Canadian Rocky Mountains where he spent two months at the Banff Centre, a secluded composers' retreat. His goal was to write a complex, fully orchestrated album that blended post-rock, chamber-pop and contemporary classical composition. By the time Ludwig-Leone landed in Alberta, he had structured the entire album as a dialogue between an earnest, unhappy man, and a cynical, elusive woman. By the time he returned to Brooklyn, he had accomplished his goal. San Fermin is not an album of singles, but rather a sweeping, full-bodied listen with multiple distinct peaks and ambitious thematic connections.

Additionally, Ludwig-Leone has extensive experience working with unconventional composers, including a job assisting composer/arranger Nico Muhly, who many believe to be the natural heir to the throne of Philip Glass.  Through his work with Muhly he has also assisted in arranging for The National, Passion Pit, Erykah Badu, Sonic Youth's Lee Ranaldo, and more.

Since recording the album with over twenty musicians, the band has coalesced into a core of eight members including Ludwig-Leone: Rae Cassidy and Allen Tate on lead vocals; Rebekah Durham, vocals/violin; John Brandon, trumpet; Stephen Chen, saxophone; Tyler McDiarmid, guitar; and Michael Hanf, drums.
