Plot Twist: Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson Tops Forbes Highest Grossing Actors List

Dwayne Johnson Robert Downey Jr Steve Carell Sandra Bullock Jennifer Lawrence

Let’s talk about how Dwayne Johnson was named the highest grossing actor of 2013. No seriously, you did not misread that. Thanks to profits from the incredibly successful Fast & Furious 6, The Rock has topped Forbes’ list of biggest earners for this year with his films making $1.3 bn this year. That’s cool, since Johnson seems like a pretty chilled and hardworking guy, etc.

Dwayne Johnson, Superstars for Sandy
That is what you would call a $1.3 billion smile.

But what about Robert Downey Jr. or F&F co-stars like Vin Diesel? Surely the man who starred in the highest grossing film of 2013 (Iron Man 3, in case you’ve spent most of this year in a cave with no wi-fi) must be somewhere around the top? That he is, in fact Downey took second place. This maybe because, while Iron Man 3 was a huge success at the box office, it was the actor’s only film this year, while Johnson starred in four, including blockbuster G.I. Joe: Retaliation and of course Fast & Furious 6.

The L.A. Film Critics Association Shed No Light On Oscars Race With Her/Gravity Tie

Joaquin Phoenix Sandra Bullock George Clooney Bruce Dern Alfonso Cuaron

We normally look at the precursory awards in the lead up to the Oscars as a bellwether for Academy predictions, but this year’s gongs have gone to a varied set of recipients, giving us no indication as to which direction the golden statuettes will be heading come March 2014.

And it appears as though The Los Angeles Film Critics Association are just as muddled with their hypothesis - they couldn’t split the difference between Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity and Spike Jonez’s latest effort, Her. The first is an epic journey through space with incredible visuals, while the second is a futuristic love story starring Joaquin Phoenix and Scarlett Johansson, but they both received the top prize from the LAFCA last night (Sunday 9, December).

Friday Question: Will The George Clooney/Sandra Bullock Banter Ever Relent?

George Clooney Sandra Bullock

George Clooney and Sandra Bullock are both single, both similar ages and have been working together recently in Gravity. The long-time friends are have been consistently rumored to be romantically involved, but they don’t exactly help themselves by constantly using the media as a conduit for their flirting.

George ClooneyGeorge Clooney has teased the press about his feelings towards Bullock

The classroom dalliance even wormed its way into Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity script, as the ever-charming Clooney plays the experienced, yarn-spinning astronaut with ease. And, responding to Bullock’s playful claim that Clooney’s “not everyone's cup of tea,” the silver-haired icon decided to divulge something everyone knows isn’t true but secretly hopes is.

Today's The Day - UK Audiences Finally Get To Enjoy Alfonso Cuaron's Head-Spinning 'Gravity'

Sandra Bullock George Clooney Alfonso Cuaron

Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity is already an established hit in the US, but tonight sees the film’s premiere in the UK. Expectations are high. Cuaron’s deep space thrill ride has gotten mixed reviews in terms of story and acting – while Sandra Bullock and George Clooney are both talented performers, carrying out a movie with just two characters is a difficult feat. But it is in the end the film’s visual landscape and special effects that have attracted the attention of both critics and fans across the land (the land in this case being the US.)

George Clooney, Gravity Still
Opinions on Clooney's performance are contorversial.

Still, there is something to be said about the plot, which sees Bullock as a medical engineer and Clooney as an astronaut on his final mission, team up to face a crisis, which threatens to leave them adrift in space. Several critics have praised the film’s frantic story, which, coupled with the dizzying visuals is enough to leave a lasting impression on even the toughest of viewers. The Independents Geoffrey Macnab refers to the plot as “pared down and primal,” which sounds like a particularly apt description.

Is 'Gravity' Even That Good? Why You Might Not Leave The Cinema Happy

Sandra Bullock George Clooney Alfonso Cuaron

For all the hyperbole, Gravity certainly has a lot to live up to. And the first thing to say is that, visually, the film is as stunning as people are saying. But it’s not the perfect movie the critics have built it up to be. Not by a long shot. Second thing to say is that this article is full of spoilers.

Gravity above earthGravity looks beautiful, but the style outweighs the substance

So you’ve got Sandra Bullock’s Dr. Ryan Stone. She’s got a boy’s name – it’s mentioned in the film, but this is the kind of vapid characterization applied to Cuaron’s space thriller in general. Clooney’s Matt is supposed to be charming – his in-joke with Houston, that he tells a lot of stories, brought about a few chuckles – but he’s ultimately no one to really care about. His death – we told you there would be spoilers – felt about as real as his return. And thank god his return wasn’t real.

Gravity Review

Excellent

More like a 91-minute thrill-ride than an astronaut adventure movie, this tour de force throws us out into space without a safety line then thrills us with a series of near misses that take our breath away. Along the way, Sandra Bullock gets to deliver one of her best-ever performances while filmmaker Alfonso Cuaron wows us with his seamless technical wizardry. So even if the plot feels naggingly implausible, we hang on for dear life.

It begins during a Space Shuttle mission to repair the Hubble Telescope with the cheeky team leader Kowalski (Clooney) and nervous rookie Dr Stone (Bullock). Then after the Russians destroy a distant satellite, the field of debris gathers momentum and knocks out communications before sweeping Kowalski and Stone away from the shuttle and the rest of the crew. Tethered together, they decide to make their way to the International Space Station for help. But they only have 90 minutes before they intersect with the debris storm again. And both power and oxygen are running out.

Earth looks so beautiful floating just below them that we are continually taken aback by the fact that this is essentially a horror movie set in the silent weightlessness of space. Every sequence is carefully staged to ratchet up the suspense, which sometimes begins to feel a little overwrought as it continually comes down to another last-gasp moment. But Bullock plays this especially well, letting us identify with her panic and tenacity. By contrast, Clooney is sarcastic and comical, cheering her up with ridiculous anecdotes as he tries to spark her survival instinct.

'Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa' Finally Topples 'Gravity' From The Top Of The US Box Office

Johnny Knoxville Sandra Bullock George Clooney Tom Hanks Michael Fassbender Brad Pitt Javier Bardem Ridley Scott

Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa is this weeks number one movie at the box office, ousting the mega-successful Gravity from the top spot after a three week stay. The Johnny Knoxville-starring prank fest more than doubled its estimated cost of $15 million in the first weekend alone, amassing an impressive estimate of $32 million since it was released last week.

Bad Grandpa
Bad Grandpa has topped the US box office at the first attempt

Exceeding expectations by scoring more than $30 mil. at the box office, Bad Grandpa comfortably came in first place, averaging just short of $10,000 at each cinema it opened at across America. The fourth feature length outing from the Jackass team is now the second most successful of the bunch, just about tying with the first movie and coming some way off the estimated $50 mil. made by Jackass 3-D. Box office estimates indicate that the film should end its domestic run with about $75 million.

'Jackass Present: Bad Grandpa' Looks Like The Early Favourite To Top Weekend Box Office

Johnny Knoxville Sandra Bullock George Clooney Paul Greengrass Tom Hanks Brad Pitt Ridley Scott Michael Fassbender Javier Bardem Cameron Diaz

Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa is predicted to earn close to $30 million at the box office in it's opening weekend, according to Deadline, making it the most likely candidate to finish at the top of the box office come the end of the week. This means that after three weeks of dominating the US box office, Gravity may finally be replaced as America's favourite movie at cinemas.

Bad Grandpa
Bad Grandpa should be an easy weekend winner

Depending on what side of the $30 mil. mark it lands on, the film can become either the third or fourth most successful R-rated film of the year in terms of opening box office revenue. Should the film exceed expectations even further, it could potentially place even higher. The film already made an estimated $11 - 12 mil. on the opening day of the weekend - Friday, 25 October - and could be well on its way to exceeding the $30 mil. mark should the numbers continue to add up. Not bad for a film that only cost $15 million to make.

Since Gravity’s debut at the Venice Film festival, the critics have been raving. It could have been so different if the pressure exerted on director Alfonso Cuaron had told. 'Gravity's' Pull Is Irresistible As Cuaron's 3D Space Thriller Sets Box Office Record

George Clooney Sandra Bullock Alfonso Cuaron

As we foresaw – alongside a number of commentators – in our box office preview last Friday, Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity topped the box office on the second October weekend, posting record figures along the way. We’ll come clean; the record-breaking part wasn’t under the spell of our clairvoyance.

GravityThe special effects in Gravity have been lauded

So Gravity managed $55.6m on its opening weekend, putting it on track to surpass its $100m production budget, and more than likely blow the marketing budget out of the water, too. A budget, which, when you consider how much we’ve seen of the film – not much – won’t have been astronomically high anyway.

Gravity has proved to be the unlikely success story of early October thanks to the overwhelming word-of-mouth success. Starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, both of whom (Bullock in particular) are being touted for awards success thanks to their performances in the film, Gravity has been described as an out of this world ocular treat, held together thanks to the gripping direction of Alfonso Cuaron and the performance of the two stars. This critical and internet-fuelled momentum has seen the film smash previous box office records for the month of October by bringing in an estimated $55.6 million over the weekend. As well as beating the record previously held by Paranormal Activity 3, the film is also the best opening for both of the film's stars, beating The Heat and Batman and Robin respectively.

Sandra Bullock Stars In The Breath-Taking New 'Gravity' Trailer

Gravity just might be the best sci-fi film to grace the big screen for a number of years, as the Sandra Bullock and George Clooney-starring out of orbit-set film has already received one of heck of a reception from those lucky few who have already seen it. On Thursday (5 September), the first extended trailer for the hotly anticipated movie was released, and judging by those two-and-a-half-minutes, it becomes relatively plain to see why there is such a furore surrounding the film.

From director Alfonso Cuaron, the film sees medical engineer Dr. Ryan Stone (Bullock) onboard for her first mission into outer space alongside veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (Clooney). As the two head out into the vacuum of space to perform some routine maintenance on their ship, they receive a warning message from Houston telling them to abort their mission. As a wave of debris from a Russian satellite collides with them, our two astronauts find themselves drifting apart from their vessel and each other, gradually falling into the void of space.

Which Film Will Get An Oscars Boost At The Toronto Film Festival 2013?

George Clooney Sandra Bullock Paul Giamatti Benedict Cumberbatch Michael Fassbender Chiwetel Ejiofor Idris Elba Alfonso Cuaron

The Toronto Film Festival has grown into one of the most important events in the movie calendar. Following the prestigious and glamorous Cannes and Venice festivals, it’s the sheer scale of Toronto’s slate that gives it its Oscars precursor status. As we wrote in our – admittedly early – Academy preview, this year’s competition is stronger than ever.

Of course, Toronto is famous for exposing a number of talents via their independent cinema; it doesn’t just cater for the mainstream. But when a film stuns at the Canadian fest, Oscars buzz is hot on its heels.

Sandra Bullock plays a medical engineer sent into space with astronaut veteran George Clooney. With little experience in space, the engineer, Dr. Ryan Stone (Bullock), is reliant on Matt Kowalsky (Clooney). From the trailer and IMDB description, Bullock is reliant on Clooney when they are caught in debris and forced to survive in space. Amazingly the drama unfolds with just two actors supported by the occasional NASA voice.

Alfonso Cuaron's Terrifying 'Gravity' To Open 70th Venice Film Festival [Trailer]

Alfonso Cuaron Sandra Bullock George Clooney Terry Gilliam Matt Damon Christoph Waltz

Alfonso Cuaron's techno-thriller Gravity - starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock as astronauts stuck in space - will open the 70th Venice Film Festival this year. The movie, which could be either absolutely fantastic, groundbreaking cinema or dull sci-fi, will not vie for the coveted Golden Lion award and will screen out of competition.

Bullock plays Dr Ryan Stone, an engineer on her first shuttle mission, while Clooney plays the veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky. During a routine spacewalk, their shuttle is completely destroyed and radio contact to Earth is lost.

Both Cuaron and Bullock were on-hand to present new footage of Gravity at Comic-Con San Diego this week and spoke about the making of the movie.

Gravity - Detached, Drifting & I Got You Trailers

Medical engineer Dr. Ryan Stone is on her first mission into outer space with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky. Whilst admiring the view of their planet during a routine spacewalk, they are told to abort mission by Houston due to a catastrophic amount of debris circling their space craft Explorer. However, it appears too late when the shuttle is struck and blasted to pieces and both Stone and Kowalsky lose contact with Houston. Stone finds herself spinning out of control whilst tethered to a piece of Explorer, leaving her with no choice but to detach herself from the craft which threatens to pull her further away into space. Now drifting, alone and with no contact from Kowalsky, Houston or anyone else from Explorer, all Ryan can do is hope and pray and cling on to the little amount of oxygen she has left.

If anything's going to get your heart thumping this year, it's gritty space thriller 'Gravity'. Directed by Alfonso Cuaron ('Children of Men', 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban', 'A Little Princess') and co-written by his son Jonas Cuaron ('Year of the Nail'), this movie uncovers the underlying terrifying things that can go wrong on an astronomical journey. It is due to be released in the US on October 4th 2013.

Poor Pacific Rim: Is Sandler's Soaring 'Grown Ups 2' The Worst Movie...Ever?

Adam Sandler Guillermo Del Toro Disney Sandra Bullock Melissa McCarthy Russell Brand Steve Carell

Yeah, we had a feeling this might happen. The $190 million budget of Pacific Rim is seemingly looking further away than ever after Guillermo Del Toro's blockbuster took just $38.3 million on its box-office debut over the weekend. The Idris-Elba starring movie - which courted mainly negative reviews - is now on course to become a loss making movie for Thomas Tull's Legendary Pictures.

As expected, it was the superb Despicable Me 2 that maintained the No.1 spot on its second weekend, grossing $44.8 million for a domestic total of $229.2 million and establishing itself as one of the success stories of the year. The animated flick featuring the voices of Russell Brand and Steve Carell also topped the global box office for the weekend with $100.5 million in ticket sales, Pacific Rim followed with $91.3 million.

Sony executives will have been jumping for joy on Sunday, with news that Adam Sandler's comedy sequel Grown Ups 2 opened to a stellar $42.5 million domestically. In fact, Sony were so happy they released a cheery statement for us all to read, via the Hollywood Reporter:

Critics may have universally panned Adam Sandler's latest comedic contribution yet it's somehow managed to beat the other new release, Pacific Rim, in the US Weekend Box Office (12th-14th July). Despicable Me 2 topped the Box Office charts for the second week in a row.

Gravity Space Thriller Due To Land At Venice Film Festival Opening [Trailer]

Sandra Bullock Alfonso Cuaron George Clooney Benicio Del Toro

It's a festival of firsts for Spanish filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón: not only will his chilling new space thriller Gravity be the first 3D picture to open Venice, but it'll be the first time a Cuarón film will screen out of competition.

Alfonso Cuaron
Alfonso Cuaron Will Debut Gravity At The Venice Film Festival's Lido.

Gravity will take basic human fears and instincts into space as two astronauts - George Clooney and Sandra Bullock - are conducting a routine spacewalk when an unthinkable scenario strikes leaving the pair left floating in orbit after a meteor shower causes damage to their space station. It's the kind of primal fear exploited in Open Water (2003); two humans stranded helpless with imminent danger and slim chances of survival. In the terrifying isolation of space the characters' morals are tested meaning the film will follow the more psychological line seen in 2009's Moon as opposed to the action and explosion of space blockbusters such as Armageddon (1998).

George Clooney's 'Odd Film' 'Gravity' To Open Venice Film Festival

George Clooney Sandra Bullock Robert Downey Jr Blake Lively Scarlett Johansson Natalie Portman

George Clooney's new movie Gravity, about two astronauts stranded in space, will open the 70th edition of the Venice Film Festival on August 28, 2013. The 3D movie by acclaimed director Alfonso Cuaron, will hit theaters in the U.S. on October 4, 2013 and is already drumming up anticipation thanks largely to an intriguing teaser trailer.

"It is a very odd film, really," Clooney told USA Today in 2011, the year before Gravity was originally set to be released. "Two people in space. No monsters. It's more like 2001 (A Space Odyssey) than an action film." It's been a long road to get the movie to screen, with Robert Downey Jr originally pencilled in for the male lead before dropping out of the project and opening the door for Clooney.

Producers originally settled on Sandra Bullock for the female lead after reportedly testing French actress Marion Cotillard and mulling over the likes of Scarlett Johansson, Blake Lively. Natalie Portman was apparently offered the role without a screen test following her Oscar winning performance in Black Swan, though passed on the project due to scheduling conflicts.

Despicable Me 2 Isn't The End: Universal Releases Synopsis For 'Minions' Spinoff

Sandra Bullock

Despicable Me 2 (not exactly a title that rolls off the tongue) is in theatres this week. While the film itself can’t quite match up to the original, it’s raised enough buzz – and consequently, enough cash – for the franchise to live on. The folks over at Universal aren’t ones to miss a cash cow, should it pass by, so it’s hardly a surprise that the plot for a spin-off movie has already been announced. And what better focus for a spin-off than those lovable (if undeniably terribly dense) little creatures – the minions? The aptly titled Minions is already being slated for a December 14, 2014 release date.

Sandra Bullock, The Heat Premiere
Bullock as an animated villain? Yes please!

The recently released synopsis, courtesy of Den of Geek, reads: "The Minions, breakout stars from Despicable Me, are presented in an origin story that showcases their unpredictable personality and physicality, and pairs them with equally memorable human characters. As it turns out, Minions have existed since the beginning of time. They have evolved from single (yellow) cell organisms into the familiar beings we know, and they live for a collective purpose: to seek out and serve the most despicable master they can find. Academy Award winner Sandra Bullock will lead the voice cast of characters as Scarlett Overkill, the worlds reigning super-villain of the 1960s".

Disney Pixar’s animation has fended off competition from Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy’s cop comedy The Heat. The comedy has received favourable reviews and the weekend box office reflects this, grossing since its release on Friday $40 million.

The Heat's Wave Of Reviews Is Hardly Warm - Melissa McCarthy And Sandra Bullock Play It Safe

Melissa McCarthy Sandra Bullock Michael Caine Demian Bichir Michael Rapaport Marlon Wayans Jane Curtin

Critical reviews of The Heat, starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy, have been more lukewarm than scolding.

Sandra Bullock plays Sarah Ashburn, an FBI agent incapable of having fun (sounds familiar?), who is paired up with rotund police officer Shannon Mullins, played by Melissa McCarthy (again –does this remind you of everything?)

In fact, throw in a camp Michael Caine and an awkward ginger haired English actor and voilà! You have a bizarre combination of Miss Congeniality and Hot Fuzz

Sandra Bullock In Talks For Jay-z And Will Smith’S ‘Annie’

Sandra Bullock Carol Burnett Quvenzhane Wallis Jay Z Will Smith Jamie Foxx Will Gluck Emma Thompson Aline Brosh McKenna

Sandra Bullock is in talks with producers of the upcoming Hollywood remake of ‘Annie,’ according to The Wrap. Rumours of Bullock’s involvement started circulating in March, although it is believed talks have since reopened with Sony and Overbrook Entertainment.

The musical, first shown on Broadway in 1977, was made into a film in 1982. Should the studio’s plans come into fruition, the actress would be playing Miss Hannigan: the abusive overseer of Annie’s orphanage. As such, Bullock will be competing with Carol Burnett’s performance.

This role would mark a change for the actress who has previously appeared as the heroine in the majority of her films including The Blind Side, The Proposal and All About Steve.

The film opened in America last Friday and in the UK this Thursday.

The eclectic, starry cast includes Justin Timberlake, Garrett Hedlund and John Goodman. And to go with the Cannes world premiere, the film launched its first trailer this week. It looks pretty unmissable, and is being released to target awards season.

'Gravity Trailer' Stars George Clooney And Sandra Bullock (And Nobody Else) [Trailer]

George Clooney Sandra Bullock

George Clooney and Sandra Bullock are not exactly names synonymous with sci-fi films, but the two will be getting together to try their hand at the genre in the upcoming space-based thriller story Gravity. In the trailer we see Clooney and Bullock drifting above Earth's atmosphere and not a lot else in terms of other acting talent, and that is because the two are essentially the only cast in the entire film.

The movie sees young astronaut Dr. Ryan Stone (Bullock) on her first trip into space, where she is taken under the guidance of veteran cosmonaut Matt Kowalsky (Clooney), who is nearing his retirement - the prime time for disaster to strike anyone. As they admire the views of Earth from the best vantage point anyone could ask for, debris hits their space shuttle and the two are separated and flung further into the vast emptiness of space. The two must work together if they are ever going to get back to Earth, but first they need to work out just how they would even go about doing such a task in the first place.

The trailer for Gravity

The trailer fails to give away too much, but it does show off some spectacular imagery that looks as though it was shot directly from the International Space Station. Whilst some two actor movies of the past (think Open Water) have been nothing but a bore, this movie genuinely looks as though it packs a punch, with the acting talents of Clooney and Bullock hopefully not letting the film down.
Gravity is the brainchild of Alfonso Cuaron (Children of Men, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban) and his son Jonas Cuaron (Year of the Nail), with pappa Cuaron directing the film. It is set to hit cinemas on October 18th 2013.

George Clooney
George Clooney is getting back on his acting game.

Gravity - Teaser Trailer

Dr. Ryan Stone is a young medial engineer on her very first trip to space alongside Matt Kowalsky, a highly experienced astronaut on the brink of retirement. When the pair tether themselves to their space shuttle to make a standard spacewalk and get carried away by the beautiful view that is the Earth, they fail to notice large chunks of debris hurtling towards their transport home, blasting the shuttle into smithereens. All they can do is hold on to what's left of it and hope and pray that they reach their home over their radios in order to be rescued as the precious amount of oxygen left in their suits dwindles rapidly. But in the most destructive of foreign surroundings, just how long have their got left before they are inescapably sucked into the void of the universe?

'Gravity' is the brand new space thriller directed and co-written by Alfonso Cuaron ('Children of Men', 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban', 'A Little Princess') alongside his co-writer son Jonas Cuaron ('Year of the Nail'). It is an extraordinary two-actor epic that will drag you on an heart-stopping, emotionally-charged journey as it focuses on the pure vastness of the merciless cosmos. It is set to hit cinemas on October 18th 2013.

George Clooney And Sandra Bullock Face Disaster In Space Thriller 'Gravity' [Trailer]

George Clooney Sandra Bullock Alfonso Cuaron

George Clooney and Sandra Bullock are in grave danger in the new space flick 'Gravity' where they play a pair of ill-fated astronauts.

What is the worst way to die? Drowning? Being buried alive? How about getting lost in outer space? Certainly that's Clooney and Bullock's characters' biggest threat in the new teaser trailer for 'Gravity' when they venture out on a mission to the stars and their space shuttle gets ripped apart by falling debris while they are gazing at the earth from outside it. All they can do is hold on to the wreckage and hope that they don't get flown further than they are from the earth where they are near enough to hope someone will rescue them. This heart-wrenching space epic has been directed by Alfonso Cuarón ('Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban', 'Children of Men') and will certainly make a huge impact on cinematic viewing this year.

The teaser will be drawing in audiences everywhere as it depicts a disaster of such unfathomable hopelessness, that no-one will want to be left in the dark about the ending. The movie is due to be released in 3D on October 4th 2013 with the ominous tagline 'Don't Let Go'.

Shocker: Alfonso Cuarón's 'Gravity' Is Looking Really, Really, Good [Trailer]

George Clooney Alfonso Cuaron Sandra Bullock Clive Owen

A teaser trailer for Gravity, the new movie from Alfonso Cuarón, has rolled out online. The sci-fi movie follows two astronauts played by Sandra Bullock and George Clooney who get stranded on a damaged space station with absolutely no communications with Earth. Spanish filmmaker Cuarón is best known for his dystopian future Earth flick Children of Men - with Clive Owen - though Gravity appears to be vastly different ground.

The teaser trailer focuses on the devastating accident that leaves the astronauts set adrift from their ship. The visuals are stunning and Cuarón appears to be the right man to take the colors and stark atmosphere in space and present it on the big-screen. The most important thing about Gravity is that it looks very different from the slew of sci-fi movies coming out this year - After Earth, Star Trek etc - and that's definitely no bad thing.

Sandra Bullock Promotes 'The Heat' At CinemaCon, Director Paul Feig Expresses Support For Boston

Sandra Bullock Melissa McCarthy Paul Feig

Paul Feig, director of the upcoming cop flick “The Heat”, starring Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock, expressed his support for Boston and its citizens, following the marathon bombing earlier this week.

Feig, whose upcoming flick is set in Boston, praised the resilience of bostonions, saying: "If any city had to get through adversity, this is the city to do it" during a talk at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. His mention of the attack was one of few at the convention. The other one was made by Chris Pine, prior to the screening of “Star Treck Into Darkness” on Monday. Pine’s statement aimed to draw a parallel between the bombings and the plot of his upcoming movie, in which a terrorist attack is executed against “Starfleet”. "Terrorism is a big part of our lives," Pine said.

Feig’s “The Heat” has been eagerly anticipated ever since the first trailer was released. As an addition to the “buddy cop” sub-genre, it puts somewhat of a fresh twist on the story, by making the main characters female. Despite the grim comment before the screening, the film itself was received very well by the initial audience. “The Heat” is due for official release across US theatres on June 28th.

Sandra Bullock And Melissa McCarthy Hit Up Disneyland!

Sandra Bullock Melissa McCarthy Alfonso Cuaron George Clooney

Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy were snapped wandering around Disneyland on Thursday afternoon, but don't worry, the Hollywood superstars had their young children with them (well, one of them did). The Heat co-stars were joined by Bullock's son Louis and Melissa's husband Ben Falcone, reports E! Online.

Earlier this month, Sandra and Louis, 2, had a 'play date' with Melissa and her daughters Vivian, 5, and Georgette, 2, at the Bridesmaids actress' home. The pair star together in the forthcoming comedy The Heat, about an uptight FBI special agent who is paired with Boston cop Shannon Mullins in order to take down a ruthless drug lord. The problem is that neither have ever had a partner, or a friend for that matter. Director Paul Feig recently told E! Online that Sandra an Melissa "really became the best of friends" during filming, "Their chemistry was so quick and good right off the bat," he said.

Though the movie is likely to perform strongly at the box-office, Bullock will be keeping a close eye on the reception to Gravity - Alfonso Cuaron's forthcoming sci-fi thriller that will be vying for a slew of awards. Also starring George Clooney, it follows astronauts who attempt to return to earth after debris crashes into their space shuttle, leaving them drifting alone in space.

The Heat Trailer

Sarah Ashburn is an FBI special agent with an unmatched record for closed cases. However, she is as much valuable as she is disliked as her flawless reputation has inflated her ego and turned her into a control freak who repeatedly fails to be a team player among her fellow agents. When her boss sends her to Boston, little does she know that she's about to meet her match in the shape of Detective Shannon Mullins; a loud-mouthed cop who has also never been good at working with other cops and makes for a truly formidable adversary. However, it is to everyone's surprise when these tough-talking law enforcers succeed in partnering up to bring in a particularly ruthless mobster with serious drug connections and manage to work together in interrogating his known associates. It soon becomes clear that these ladies are becoming less in the way of crime-fighting partners and more in the way of best friends.

This fantastic bad girl comedy sees Sandra Bullock ('Miss Congeniality') as an FBI agent yet again and, for this reason alone, guarantees it to become a huge comedy flick. Directed by Paul Feig ('Bridesmaids') and written by Katie Dippold ('MADtv', 'Parks and Recreation'), 'The Heat' is set to hit screens on April 5th 2013.

Director: Paul Feig
