As ‘The Jump’ prepares to crown its series' winner, it’s been reported that the show may not make it back onto our screens again. According to The Sun, the series is facing the axe by Channel 4, after ratings have ‘fallen off a massive cliff’.

A show source told the newspaper: “The feeling among the show team is that this has been the worst series yet. After so many injuries, the celebrities are terrified of everything — and then the viewer ratings have fallen off a massive cliff.”

“Yes, there has been a lot of controversy about people getting injured, but that isn’t the problem. At the end of the day, this comes down to business. The show is just not pulling in the viewing figures to justify the huge amount being spent on it.”

“On top of the celebrity fees and travel costs, there’s insurance, the medical team, the fees for hospital treatment. The list goes on. The bosses’ view is that it isn’t worth it for an audience of a few million.”

When the series debuted last month 2.3million tuned in to watch the first episode, but last week’s semi-final drew only 1.6million viewers. The show has also been plagued by injuries, with a string of contestants being forced to pull out.

But a spokesperson for the show has denied reports it was about to be axed, telling The Sun: “'The Jump' has been hugely successful, averaging over two million viewers."

"Last Sunday it helped Channel 4 to be the most watched commercial channel across the day. It is categorically untrue to suggest the show has been axed.”
