We've Seen Inside Her Home, So Is Sarah Jessica Parker Relly Carrie Bradshaw?

Sarah Jessica Parker

Sarah Jessica Parker is Carrie Bradshaw. Ok maybe they’re not totally the same person, but the actress and the famous character she played are inextricably linked forever in our minds. Every time Sarah finds herself on a red carpet you hear things like ‘Sarah wearing a very Carrie-esque dress ’ or ’what would Carrie Bradshaw make of Sarah’s fashion choice?’ We just can't get away from the comparisons. Which brings us to Sarah’s latest interview, Vogue’s 5 minute quick-fire walk through of her New York townhouse. So is Sarah, Carrie? Well this recent insight has left us drawing comparisons all over again.

Sarah Jessica Parker invited us and Vogue into her New York townhouseSarah Jessica Parker invited us and Vogue into her New York townhouse

Firstly Sarah’s house is beautiful, it’s impeccably decorated and has a wonderful old worldly, vintage feel. Actually, it’s miles away from the apartment she nearly bought with Mr Big in the ‘Sex and the City’ movie. The real life Parker digs are little more what you’d image Carrie would have had if she’d married Aidan. It’s also pretty full of everything from globes to baseballs and lots and lots of books. You can easily spot what might be a few touches from her husband Matthew Broderick (ping pong table!) We’re going to say cluttered chic, but of course this is meant in the most complimentary way possible.

Pay attention everyone, because Sarah Jessica Parker is doing things again. She’s not releasing any shoe collections this time, but the tour she recently gave Vogue of her New York townhouse is just as exciting. Obviously, it’s an East Village townhouse, so it would be great, whoever was hosting, but Parker just adds a certain je ne sais quoi to the whole thing.

Sarah Jessica Parker Returns To Spotlight With Nordstrom Shoe Line

Sarah Jessica Parker

In news that shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, Sarah Jessica Parker launches her new line of shoes tomorrow. The Sex & the City star has teamed up with Nordstrom and George Malkemus to launch SJP. It’s been a long time in the making. It’s been 10 years since Sex & The City and Parker’s creative relationship with Malkemus goes back even further, but SJP had good reasons for taking her time.

It took a while, but SJP finally launches this Friday.

"I won't sell a shoe to someone that isn't well-made or timeless. I feel honor-bound to a large group of women. I am overly cognizant and aware that I would not have this opportunity if it were not for the commitment those women made to me over the years," Parker told USA Today "I have no interest in selling them a bill of goods or convincing them to buy something I would not wear myself."

Is 'Sex And The City' 3 Really Such A Good Idea?

Sarah Jessica Parker Chris Noth

Sex and the City executive producer, Michael Patrick King, has hinted that there may be another movie in the pipelines. HBO’s hugely successful series Sex and the City ran between 1998 and 2004 and practically defined, and revolutionised, an entire generation of women. Who didn’t live vicariously through Samantha's sex life, or start believing that men really can change when Big finally came through in the end?

sex and the city 3 Will the girls be returning for a third Sex and the City movie?

Fans of the show felt that they knew Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda intimately (in every sense of the word) when the show concluded in 2004, and you’ll still hear ‘the girls’ used in reference today, a decade after the show finished.

The Carrie Diaries: The Show Might Be A Joke, But The Clothes Are Not

AnnaSophia Robb Sarah Jessica Parker

The Carrie Diaries, the Sex and the City prequel, has been widely panned, so it’s understandable that the show’s producers have decided to focus on what really matters: the clothes.

The Carrie Diaries’ costume designer Eric Daman and executive producer Amy B Harris have both been waxing lyrical about the joys of dressing the cast, including AnnaSophia Robb, who plays the young Carrie.

Speaking at the Television Critics’ Association panel to promote the show, Harris said that they had tried to stay away from the 1980s style clichés, and had let clothes from the ‘60s and ‘70s linger in Carrie’s mother’s wardrobe, to feed into Sarah Jessica Parker’s character’s love for vintage clothes. Harris told People magazine “Our whole idea for this was I didn't want it to feel like the joke version of the '80s with people in those thin glasses or parachute pants where even in the '80s we were all kind of thinking, 'Is this a mistake? It think it might be.”

Couture Meets Cartoons: Sarah Jessica Parker Meets Minnie Mouse For Barneys' Christmas Window

Sarah Jessica Parker

Barney's department store in NYC has had its Christmas window display unveiled by Sarah Jessica Parker. This year's stunning display centres on Disney's Minnie Mouse and a short film starring the adorable character as she longs after a stunning Lanvin dress, before being whisked into a fashion world which features the cartoon version of some of fashion's icons, including SJP herself, as well as Lady Gaga and Naomi Campbell.

New York, aside from being the centre of the world in many respects, is also the centre of Christmas. Iconic American Christmas movies that dominate the season, drawing the family around the television for re-runs over the few baubled days, are largely set in New York; Miracle on 34th Street (both the beautiful black and white original, or the Mara Wilson '90's remake), Will Ferrell's Elf, Home Alone II and of course, It's a Wonderful Life. All these NYC movies personify the festive season. So, New York's department stores are also the iconic Christmas window and this year Barneys has outdone itself.

The short film is called 'Electric Christmas' in which all the greats are featured; Lanvin, Balenciaga, Dolce and Gabanna, Proenza Schouler, Rik Owens, Nina Ricci and Balmain. Vogue reports that Harrods has teamed up with Disney for their festive season as well.

Sarah Jessica Parker had the honour of unveiling New York's designer store Barney's Disney style holiday promotion on Wednesday (November 14th 2012).

The fashion campaign has been entitled 'Electric Holiday' and a 5-minute animated film has been released as part of The Walt Disney Company and Barney's Madison Avenue store's collaboration. The film features Minnie Mouse spotting a fabulous dress in a store window and fantasising about the Paris Fashion Week where she imagines she is snapped by the paparazzi looking glamorous and is joined by animated versions of Sarah Jessica Parker, Lady Gaga, Daphne Guinness, Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Bryan Boy and Carine Roitfeld as well as fellow Disney creations Daffy Duck, Cruella de Vil, Snow White, Tinkerbell and, of course, Mickey Mouse to name but a few.

In the spirit of the occasion, the 'Sex and the City' star sported rather stylish looking black lace Minnie Mouse ears designed by Rag & Bone and L'Wren Scott as she posed next to the Disney damsel herself. As part of the spectacular holiday campaign, 25% of all sales of limited edition products (including those ears) will be donated to the Red Cross in support of the Hurricane Sandy relief campaign.

The event itself was in aid of a book of the same name being released, which features celebrity models wearing the iconic fashion item. The book, a joint project between Lagerfeld and Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld, is a reinterpretation of one of Chanel's most iconic fashion items: the black jacket.

Stars Come Out To Pay Tribute To Marvin Hamlisch

Marvin Hamlisch Barbra Streisand Aretha Franklin Michael Douglas Sarah Jessica Parker

The stars came out to pay tribute to the late American composer and conductor Marvin Hamlisch who passed away last month aged 68, with Barbara Streisand, Aretha Franklin and Liza Minelli appearing at a memorial service in tribute to the great music writer.

The BBC reports that the invite-only service was held at New York’s Juilliard School and saw Minelli perform If You Really Knew Me from the musical They’re Playing My Song whilst Franklin sung James Bond theme Nobody Does It Better. It was a fitting tribute to someone who won three Academy Awards, a Tony, four Grammys , four Emmys and a Pultizer Prize during their career.
The event was arranged by Streisand and she commented on Hamlisch's life by saying "Without explaining why or how, we understood each other’s anxieties," in reference to their shared Jewish heritage.

An audience that included Michael Douglas and Sarah Jessica Parker were treated to performances not just by three women who are among the finest voices in popular music history, but also three of Hamlisch’s closest friends, making it a wholly fitting evening. Minelli said that she’d known him since they were in their teens, whilst Franklin performed a version of the spiritual ballad Deep River in homage. The tribute also featured While I Still Have The Time - a song from his final musical, The Nutty Professor, which premiered in Nashville in August.

New Year's Eve Review

Terrible
The team that made the thin-but-enjoyable Valentine's Day in 2010 reunites for another massively overextended rom-com with a remarkable A-list ensemble. But this time the stories and filmmaking overdose on ill-conceived schmaltz.

As the countdown to 2012 begins, an executive (Swank) is frazzled about a technical glitch in the iconic Time's Square ball-drop. Meanwhile, a courier (Efron) is trying to help a frumpy secretary (Pfeiffer) achieve her dreams. A chef (Heigl) is catering a glittering event while trying to avoid her rock star ex (Bon Jovi), whose back-up singer (Michele) is stuck in a lift with a lovelorn slacker (Kutcher). A mother (Parker) is worried about her teen daughter (Breslin). And a tuxedoed millionaire (Duhamel) is trying to get to an important event in the city.

I Don't Know How She Does It Review

OK
There are plenty of skilled people behind this female-empowerment movie, but the film badly botches its core message. The script may reflect a certain reality about the sexes, but it also misses the point.

In Boston, Kate (Parker) has a loving husband, Richard (Kinnear), and two adorable children. Everyone watches her in wonder as she juggles her responsibilities as a wife, mother and high-powered investment banker. But the constant business trips are taking their toll, especially when she's required to work regularly in New York with investor Jack (Brosnan). It's a struggle, but Kate keeps everything running. The question is whether anyone is actually happy with the situation.

Alanis Morissette expressed disappointment during an on-screen kiss with Sarah Jessica Parker. The couple kissed as part of an episode of 'Sex and the City' in 1999, in which Morissette played a lesbian. During the episode 'Boy, Girl, Boy Girl', Morrissette had to kiss Carrie Bradshaw - the character played by Parker. However, Morrissete has now admitted that the steamy scene wasn't as thrilling as one might think. Morrisette explained: "I kissed Sarah Jessica Parker. I played a lesbian in 'Sex and the City' and I had to kiss her. I have experimented with same-sex relationships in my life, but it wasn't about enjoyment with Sarah Jessica. Her character was supposed to be reluctant about getting involved, so it wasn't a passionate kiss - it was a reticent one, which is the reason I didn't enjoy it."

Sex And The City Review

Weak
Whenever you bring a popular TV series to the big screen, you always face one inevitable difficulty -- will this material play outside the already dedicated fanbase? Does familiarity breed financial rewards, or does the concept's proverbial companion "contempt" expose the limited interests involved. This is the dilemma that faces the four-years-in-the-making Sex and the City: The Movie. While writer/director Michael Patrick King is no longer simply playing to the feverish fanatics who made the series a pay cable success, he does nothing to broaden the scope -- or potential appeal -- of this bit of now tired pseudo-Cinderella shallowness.

As columnist/author Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) prepares to move in with her longtime beau Mr. Big (Chris Noth), her three fabulous friends are facing their own unique issues. Samantha (Kim Cattrall), after five years in California with her soap actor boy toy (Jason Lewis), is getting antsy for her old stomping grounds... and sexual ways. Miranda's (Cynthia Nixon) husband Steve (David Eigenberg) has been feeling unloved, and his actions drive a wedge in their marriage. And Charlotte (Kristin Davis) loves being a wife and mother. When a suddenly-planned wedding goes awry, Carrie hires Manhattan newbie Louise (Jennifer Hudson) to help sort out her life. Turns out, it's harder to find love than any one of these modern gals previously imagined.

The First Wives Club Review

Very Good
The biggest crowd-pleaser of the year is upon us -- the powerhouse trio of Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler, and Diane Keaton foisting their womanness on us with a vengeance. Sure to revive the debate over whether films like this are "man hating," The First Wives Club is, in reality, a harmless big screen sitcom that actually manages to appeal to a large audience.

Rambling through its first 30 minutes with no real direction, The First Wives Club eventually turns into a story about three old friends who want to exact vengeance on their wayward ex-husbands. Elise (Hawn) is an aging movie star, obsessed, as most aging movie stars are, about her looks. Brenda (Midler) is a bitter ex-housewife who loves her son and bemoans her lack of funds to support him -- and hasn't changed her hair since 1969. Annie (Keaton) is basically a middle-aged version of Annie Hall, only now she has a lesbian daughter and an intrusive mother, and Woody Allen is nowhere to be seen.

A Life Apart: Hasidism In America Review

Extraordinary
Legend has it that one rabbi, when coming to America, couldn't fit the Torah's scrolls into their new covers. "We can't modify the Torah to fit America," he said, but "we will tailor America to fit the Torah." A Life Apart: Hasidism in America is a thoughtful, compassionate documentary that illuminates the philosophy behind Hasidism's stubborn refusal to join the American mainstream.

Even among different denominations of Jewish religion, Hasidism stands alone, a religion of minorities among minorities. The invaluable quality of this film is that it neither critiques nor praises the Hasidic religion. For a subject matter as extreme and uncompromising as the religion itself, A Life Apart is wonderfully even-handed. Throughout the film, which starts and concludes with an exuberant wedding ceremony underlying the significance of ritual for the Hasidic community, we dig into the mystic philosophy behind the Hasidic refusal to participate in the contemporary world.

Dudley Do-Right Review

Terrible

The essence of Jay Ward's delightfully dolt-driven cartoons like "Rocky and Bullwinkle," "George of the Jungle" and "Dudley Do-Right" was always a resourceful, goofball mix of silliness, self-cognizance and good, dumb laughs -- a combination that might seem difficult to duplicate outside the medium of deliberately dorky animation.

But two years ago, the balance was mimicked surprisingly well in the live-action "George of the Jungle," with a perfectly cast, pratfall-proficient Brendan Fraser in the title role. But that balance is conspicuously absent as Fraser tries to fill the clumsy shoes of another Jay Ward character -- his vapid but lovable, lantern-jawed Canadian Mountie -- in the almost completely giggle-free "Dudley Do-Right."

Not only does the dilly dorkiness turn to idiocy, which in turn runs rings around the infrequent laughs, but just about the only engaging moment in the entire movie isn't even a sight gag or a goof. It's a completely serious stunt.
