The award-winning 'American Horror Story' star has been dating actress Holland Taylor for three years.
‘American Horror Story’ star Sarah Paulson has revealed that she was advised to keep her relationship with Holland Taylor under wraps for being “odd” and unconventional.
The 42 year old actress and her 74 year old partner Taylor have had to cope with quite a few people raising their eyebrows at the 32-year age gap in their relationship, which has been going for nearly three years. She opened up about some of the difficulties she and they have faced in a new interview with Net-A-Porter’s The Edit this week.
“My life choices are, um, unconventional. I’m with a much older person and people find that totally fascinating and odd, and, to me, it’s the least interesting thing about me. But I do feel a bit unconventional,” Paulson explained to the publication.
Sarah Paulson was advised to keep her relationship with Holland Taylor a secret
“I am a woman of a certain age who chose not to have children, and who has made my career my priority. I am the captain of my own ship, and I’ve never looked to anyone else to validate that, or tell me it’s okay.”

She then explained that, when she began to tell her colleagues and friends about her relationship with Taylor, some had cautioned her that it might damage her career, and that she should think carefully about her priorities.
“Early on, when people found out I was with Holland, some said: ‘I think you have to be careful, I’m afraid it’s going to affect your career negatively.’ I was like, what? It never occurred to me at all.”
Earlier this year, Paulson won several awards, including a Golden Globe, for her acclaimed role as attorney Marcia Clark in ‘American Crime Story: The People vs OJ Simpson’. When she accepted those awards, she wasn’t sure whether to thank Holland for her support.
“It occurred to me, should I not [say 'I love you' to Taylor onstage]? And then I thought, why would I not? The fact I’m having this thought is wrong. But I had a moment of societal concern; wondering if, maybe, people who didn’t know that about me would be like, wait, what? But then, you know, I did it anyway.”
