Christopher Chaney - the man convicted of hacking the email accounts of Scarlett Johansson and Christina Aguilera - is facing 60 years in prison. Both Hollywood stars, who knew Chaney, say their lives have been irreparably damaged by his actions with one now suffering from panic attacks and the other depressed and paranoid. Chaney sent nude photos they had taken of themselves to their family members, reports the Associated Press.
Chaney, 35, is due to be sentenced on Monday (December 17, 2012) and faces a huge stretch in prison after pleading guilty to nine felony counts including wiretapping and unauthorized access to a computer - felonies that the U.S. judicial system does not take kindly to. In statement, The Voice mentor Christina Aguilera said, "That feeling of security can never be given back and there is no compensation that can restore the feeling one has from such a large invasion of privacy." Prosecutors said Chaney illegally accessed the email accounts of more than 50 people, including Johansson, Aguilera and the actress Mila Kunis, between November 2010 and October 2011. Nude photographs of Johansson were meant for her then-husband Ryan Reynolds, though Chaney uploaded them to the internet.
Chaney managed to figure out his victims' email passwords and security questions and set a feature to forward a copy of ever email they received to his account. He was finally arrested in October 2011 as part of a year-long investigation into celebrity hacking dubbed 'Operation Hackerazzi'.
