With American Idol's 13th season coming to a close, does the singing competition have a chance to win back its relevancy?
Things have been up and down lately for 'American Idol,' as the singing competition is reaching the end of its 13th season. The ratings for one of the more recent episodes reached an all-time low in viewers -- a measly 7 million, while the show’s highest attraction drew in 30 million. Additionally, publicity for one of the finalists hasn’t been too hot either, as contestant Caleb Johnson found himself in a bit of trouble when he called his social media critics “retards” in a video interview with AfterBuzz TV. Either way, the show must go on, and Idol’s two night season finale begins on Tuesday, May 20 as Johnson takes on Jena Irene for the 'American Idol' crown.
“We don’t really care who wins,” Johnson told a group of press outside of Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre on May 19. Irene, on the other hand, stated that win or lose, she wanted to “go out on a good note.” Irene may have the better philosophy here, because as 'American Idol' grows older and older, it raises the question: does anyone really care who wins 'American Idol' anymore?

We’re big fans of Beyonce Knowles, here at Contactmusic and we don’t like the thought of her sat at home, wading through a tub of Ben and Jerry’s and snivelling into a silk hanky whilst the world is up in arms about her lip syncing the National Anthem earlier this week (January 21, 2013). So, for the sole purpose of cheering Beyoncé up (OK, we kinda had a bout of the mid-week blues and fancied a chuckle, too), we have compiled some seriously bad lip syncing fails from the annals of pop history. Cheer up, Beyoncé, there’s always the Super Bowl…
First up, in fifth place: If you are going to call your band Squeeze Theeze Pleeze, you can bet your bottom dollar that fate is going to intervene and cause something terrible to happen to you. Just watch this clip and see fate trying to deal a blow to the singer of Squeeze Theeze Pleeze, not only for his terrible band name but – presumably, also for his awful t-shirt, jeans and suit jacket combo. We won’t spoil the surprise, but please also note just how much his band seem to care about his well-being, when the highlight of the video actually occurs.

Flo Rida fans might want to snag a position with a decent vantage point for the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York on Saturday, after it was announced the hip-hop star would be performing aboard a 30-foot float. As always, the parade will feature numerous inflatable landmarks and fancily decorated floats.
"This is a dream come true," Flo Rida told the New York Daily News, "I remember as a kid getting together with my whole family to watch the Thanksgiving Day parade and thinking about how someday I'd be on a float." Flo Rida will actually be riding the newspaper's own 'Big Apple' float and argued that even though he's from a city 1,200 miles away, it's still pretty special. "I know I'm from Miami, but I come to New York City a lot. It's very special to ride on the float of New York's hometown newspaper." The Daily News enlisted the help of R&B legend Mary J Blige for their float in 2011 and they'll be hoping Flo Rida does a similarly sterling job.
The celebrations begins at 9am on November 24, 2012, at 77th St and Central Park West, where 16 giant balloons, 28 floats and 11 marching bands begin their trip to the south of the city. Plenty of celebrities will appear at the event, including Jimmy Fallon, The Roots, Whoopi Goldberg and basketball star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Jason Aldean is already sitting pretty at the top of the country music singles charts, with ‘Take A Little Ride’ and this week, he’s looking to do the same with his album, Night Train. It’s the fifth studio album from the 35 year-old, who likes to mix a little hip-hop in with his country. Night Train is pretty much a dead cert to storm to the top of the US country music charts, but how will it fare in the Billboard Hot 100? His last full-length release, My Kinda Party rocked in at number two; surely this time round, Aldean will be looking for that elusive top spot?
From country infused with hip-hop to one of the forefathers of ‘alt-country’: Jason Lytle. Formerly of Grandaddy, Lytle releases his fourth solo album this week, entitled Department of Disappearance. So far, the album’s received an impressive score of 80 on the metacritic reviews site but it remains to be seen whether or not an alternative artist such as Lytle can translate into chart success.
It looks as though country music will be dominating this week’s charts again; American Idol winner Scotty Mccreery is getting in early with the Christmas releases and launching his festive tunes for all of the world to hear. If the phrase Christmas With Scotty McCreery fills you with dread then this is never going to be the album for you. If however, the thought of having your family dinner soundtracked by the pearly-white perma-grinning McCreery sounds agreeable then you may as well get in early, grab a copy of the album right now and watch to see if he can grab another US number one album, or whether he will have to admit defeat to the almighty Aldean.
