Essentially this year's Moneyball, but set in American football rather than baseball, this fast-paced drama is brightly made with an especially strong cast. But only die-hard fans will be able to drum up much interest in the plot, which is played as if it's the most important thing on earth. This insular approach is seriously alienating for audience members with even the slightest sense of perspective about life. Thankfully, the actors are likeable and entertaining.
It's set over the 12 hours leading up to the NFL draft, when teams select the top players from university teams. In Cleveland, manager Sonny (Kevin Costner) is struggling to hang on to his job, arguing with Coach Penn (Denis Leary) about who should be the first pick. And when he swaps with another team for the top selection, the team owner (Frank Langella) pressures Sonny to take the most highly desired player in the field (Josh Pence). But Sonny has his doubts, and amid backroom dealings and frantic last-minute swaps, he also looks at another promising player (Chadwick Boseman) while making sure the team's current quarterback (Tom Welling) is up to his job. Meanwhile, Sonny and the team's financial manager Ali (Jennifer Garner) are in a secret relationship and have just found out that they're pregnant.
Most of this takes place during phone calls, but director Ivan Reitman manages to make this visually intriguing using whizzy split-screen trickery. And while Garner's character feels utterly irrelevant, like a distraction to the main football plot , she adds the badly needed human interest element, as do two other actresses in smaller roles: Ellen Burstyn and Rosanna Arquette as Sonny's mother and ex-wife, respectively. There are also strong cameos from the likes of Sean Combs as a high-powered agent and Sam Elliot as a sporting veteran. And it's all anchored effortlessly by Costner's affable charm, providing resonance in Sonny's attempt to play a long game while being pushed to make the flashier decisions.

Sandra Bullock isn’t the first celeb to have crazed fans sneaking around her house
Oscar-winning Hollywood actress Sandra Bullock has just recently discovered how far some fans will go to come into contact with their idols as a man broke into her Beverly Hills home in the early hours on Tuesday. Since being arrested, the man who has been identified as Joshua Corbett who is aged 39 and resides in the San Fernando valley, Los Angeles.
A man broke into Bullock's Beverly Hills home while she was inside.
Despite the apparent exclusivity and subsequent security that Beverly Hills affords inhabitants, Bullock’s run-in with the obsessive fan proves that they will often go to ridiculous measures in order to gain recognition from the subject of their adoration. It also presents a worrying security concern as a lapse in mental health often fuels these celebrity obsessions. Most famously, John Hinckley Jr’s assassination attempt on then President, Ronald Raegan, was seen by Hinckley as a way of courting the attention of actress Jodie Foster. But to have a fan invade one’s personal space and most intimate of dwellings is a unsettling notion for most people, never mind those of the celebrity calibre. Here are a selection of unfortunate celebs who’ve been subject to break-ins, robberies and warped fans who got a little too close for comfort.
What do you call Sean Combs? Well actually there's been a variety of options since Puff Daddy.
Sean Combs has had a lot of name changes in his career, but now he's back to the name we all first knew him by, Puff Daddy. He might have come full circle but inbetween we had P.Diddy, Diddy and even Swag (what?). So incase you're wondering, here's a full timeline of the many names of Sean Combs, the artist formerly known as Puff Daddy who was P.Diddy or Diddy but is now Puff Daddy again.
Sean Combs aka Puff Daddy
The man now known (again) as Puff Daddy came into the world on November 4th 1969 and was then given his first name, the very normal, Sean John Combs. It was as a child that he was first given the ‘Puffy’ nickname as he used to ‘huff and puff’ when he got mad. He told Jett magazine back in 1998 that growing up he ‘had a temper. That's why my friend started calling me Puffy.’ The nickname stuck and in 1993 he founded ‘Bad Boy Records’ and signed rapper Craig Mack, who’s single 'Flava In Ya Ear’ became the label’s first release. The label’s main star soon became the Notorious B.I.G. after the release of his 1994 ‘Ready to Die’ album. Combs is credited on the record as a producer under the name Sean ‘Puffy’ Combs.

Today marks the launch of Diddy's "Revolt" - and here we thought the age of TV was over.
P. Diddy has been silent in the way of new music for a few years, which in today’s climate translates as about a century. However the rapper/producer/entrepreneur is coming back with a new venture – a brand new music channel, Revolt, targeting that oh-so-precious 13-33 demo, also referred to as the rather strained and unpleasant term Millennials.
The rapper is convinced he can fill the vacuum, left by MTV.
'According to Diddy’s recent comment at the TCA Conference in LA, quoted via The Independent, young people are flocking to the internet for entertainment, but that’s only because “there just isn't anything engaging on TV."
The rapper has finally responded to the controversy surrounding his verse on the Big Sean track, saying that people obviously didn't get what he was saying and in future he may have dumb down to avoid another incident like this
When Kendrick Lamar spat fire on his guest spot for the Big Sean track 'Control,' his challenge to today's hip-hop heavy-weights to up their game and try and keep up with him was taken the wrong way by a chunk of the rap community, including a number of those he called out on the track. Speaking for the first time about the controversy surrounding his verse, the Compton rapper has reiterated that he meant no disrespect to anyone, noting that he may have to tone down his complex lyrics in future.
Kendrick says that people obviously didn't get what he was rapping about in the Big Sean track
The Top Dawg Entertainment star was speaking with radio DJ Peter Rosenberg on his Hot 97 radio show on Thursday (29 August) morning to address the unwarranted controversy surrounding the song, saying that his lyrics had been taken out of context by those who took offence. He commented, "It made me go back here and made me feel that I probably need to dumb down my lyrics nowadays, for people to take it way out of context the way they did."
Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Animal and friends are up to their usual tricks as they return to our screens which sees them embark on a major world tour, selling out the biggest theatres in the likes of Berlin, Madrid and London. However, as can be expected from the rabble-rousing Muppets, things don't run smoothly and they manage to get embroiled in an organised jewellery heist behind which sits Kermit's mean doppelganger and his equally evil sidekick. When Kermit gets into some serious trouble after a terrible mix up, it's up to the Muppets to once again face their enemies just like they did with oil magnate Tex Richman when he threatened to drill into the Muppets' theatre for oil. Will they succeed once again? Or will their new troubles prove too much for the feisty characters?
The rapper welcomed Kanye West, Lil Wayne, TLC, J. Cole, Wale and more on stage in the two hour, sold-out show.
For the 16,000 fans who attended Drake's OVO Fest show in Toronto, the whole evening was full of perfect "I Was There" moments with appearances from the exalted lords and ladies of R&B and hiphop royalty.
With an acronym that stands for 'October's Very Own' (October referring to Drake's birth month), OVO Festival is an event that has seen success in recent years and looks to get even bigger still. Previous years have seen performances from Stevie Wonder, Snoop Lion, Eminem, Jay Z and Nicki Minaj but the Canadian rapper and organiser outdid himself at OVO Fest 2013.

Kate Upton was spotted with Maksim - or someone who looks like Maksim - at a New York eatery this week.
It's a question that's been on our minds all week. Is Kate Upton dating Dancing with the Stars professional Maksim Chmerkovskiy? The duo were apparently spotted enjoying each other's company at Scalinatella in New York City this week, though management at the Upper East Side eatery debunked reports of a relationship and told E! news that their dinner "did not look intimate at all."
Meanwhile, a source told E! News that the two "are just good friends" while a second source close to Maksim said they've "heard nothing about them dating." Anyhow, the restaurant in New York couldn't even confirm that it was the dancer with the buxom Vogue cover model though did note that the two dinner guests appeared "just friends."
Upton - now one of the world's most popular models - has remained mum on her dating life in recent years, though vehemently denied she was dating Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander during a Fox News interview back in February. Past reports have linked Kate to Sean 'P Diddy' Combs, Kanye West, football ace Mark Sanchez and even Never Back Down actor Sean Faris.

After holding his album back for almost a year, the rapper will finally release Excuse My French over the summer
It's good to have friends in high places, and for French Montana this was the case when it came to securing the guest spots on his upcoming debut album Excuse My French, with the rapper revealing that all but one person was willing to feature on the album for nothing. Rapper Max B, who is currently serving a prison sentence, was the only one who deemed his services to be worth paying for, with the long list of other famous rap names showing up as a favour to the Bronx rapper.
French, who has Moroccan ancestry, was speaking on MTV's RapFix Live when he gave wind of the generosity of his album features, saying that only one of the twenty three guest vocals sent him a bill for their services. His long-time friend Max B, who is currently serving a 75-year sentence in prison, was the only one to ask to be paid for his appearance on the opening track on the album, with French telling RapFix, "The only person I paid was Max B. That's about it."
The Morocco/Bronx rapper will release his debut album, Excuse My French, this summer, following numerous delays
Rapper French Montana managed to get every guest spot on his new album, bar one, completely free; with the Morocco/Bronx hip hop star revealing in a recent interview that only Max B sent him a bill for his services. He told RapFix that despite amassing the help for so many people, all were willing to help him out free of charge. Although the rapper might be kicking himself soon, if it turns out they all forgot and his proclamation reminds them to send him a bill.
On Wednesday (May 22), the rapper told RapFix Live that his friend and current prison inmate Max B was the only person who wanted to be paid for an appearance on the debut album, Excuse My French, although whether the B gets to spend the money (he's currently serving a 75 year sentence) is another matter. French said, "The only person I paid was Max B. That's about it."
French Montana's new album will be out this summer

The rapper expressed an explicit desire to appear on the period drama
The thought of P Diddy appearing on Downton Abbey never entered anyone’s brain, ever; until it was tweeted, and then it was all anyone could think about. Alas, though, it’s not true, and the rapper will not be donning period attire with hanging out with Hugh Bonneville.
P Diddy aka Sean Combs loves a bit of Downton, so much so, he's forced himself upon the show
The tweet read: "MY BIG NEWS: So happy to announce that Im a series regular on DOWNTON ABBEY-my favorite show+i'll be debuting a sneak peek tonight 12am PST!." Since then, though, PBS spokesman Carrie Johnson has confirmed "It's not true," in a statement delivered by email. It was all very confusing for the people over at PBS. He initially posted: “How many of y’all out there are Downton Abbey fans? I have to admit that Downton Abbey is one of my favorite shows...” before dropping his (fake) bombshell. That’s not all though, and what Diddy was saying, well, it wasn’t entirely false. He did appear on Downton, but only really in his own head. Oh yeah, and in this ridiculous video, too. Diddy hasn’t always been called Diddy, of course. And it’s since he changed his name that his behaviour has grown ever frivolous.

Kate Upton and P Diddy were not partying together at the LIV Club in Miami.
Both Kate Upton and P Diddy have taken to Twitter to deny reports they are Hollywood's latest power couple, following rumors of a steamy "make out" session in Miami recently. According to the New York Daily News' gossip column, the pair were spotted locking lips during a night out at the LIV club in Miami Beach, though it appears their sources were less than accurate.
An eyewitness told the newspaper, "They were kissing, they weren't hiding it," with the couple apparently partying all night in the exclusive VIP section of the club, or not, as the case may be. "Attention all Media. I don't even know Kate Upton personally!" 43-year-old Sean Combs, aka P Diddy said on Twitter. "I'm not dating her! What's being reported is not true. END of story!" Sports Illustrated model Upton, 20, also shot down the reports, tweeting, "Really??? Not at all true."
An insider has since told Us Weekly that both stars have partied at the LIV club in recent weeks, though "they weren't even there at the same time." Which sort of makes it difficult to see each other, or have a make-out session for that matter.
