Seth Meyers Bans Donald Trump From His Show, In Retaliation For Washington Post Ban

Seth Meyers Donald Trump

Late night talk show host Seth Meyers has banned Donald Trump from his show, in retaliation for the Republican presidential hopeful’s decision to ban the Washington Post from covering his campaign.

On Tuesday night’s edition of ‘Late Night’, host Meyers said that Trump had hit a “new low” for his remarks in the wake of the massacre that left 49 people dead and many more injured at a gay club in Orlando, Florida at the weekend.

“When it comes to bigotry, Trump keeps upping his game,” Meyers said. “He’s like if Joseph McCarthy was exposed to gamma radiation and became a racist orange Hulk with tiny hands. Hulk mad, hands too small to smash.”

Jennifer Lawrence Seth Meyers Larry David

Jennifer Lawrence told Seth Meyers, to his face, that she used to have a crush on him years ago and was once on the verge of asking him out, because she didn’t know that he was engaged.

25 year old Lawrence appeared on ‘Late Night’ on NBC on Tuesday night (December 15th), and made a few eyebrow-raising revelations about her celebrity crushes, which included the show’s presenter himself. In early 2013, when he was the head writer at ‘Saturday Night Live’, Lawrence guest-hosted the show and was hoping to get his number, before a costume fitter informed her that Meyers was already spoken for.

What a year it’s been for Seth Meyers so far, first a late night chat show on NBC and now the former 'SN'L writer has been named as this years 'Emmy’s' host. Whilst NBC audiences are currently getting to know Seth a little better on late nights, we thought we’d delve a little further into the comedian’s past before his 'Emmy's' hosting gig.

Lena Dunham Held In US Airport For Carrying Knuckle-Duster Keychain

Lena Dunham Seth Meyers

Lena Dunham has experienced an unsettling scrape with US airport security after a self-defence keychain was spotted in her luggage. Speaking to Seth Meyers on Late Night, Lena spoke of the experience that left her shaken and shocked at LAX airport after she returned from visiting Ohio. "I'm actually getting nervous talking about it, so if I do a bad job retelling the story, it's because it's so stressful for me to relive it!" she exclaimed.

One of Lena's colleagues had given her the keychain, which was shaped like a cat and could be worn as a knuckle duster, as a gift. "I understood sort of intellectually it could be used as a weapon," the actress said, via THR, adding "but really all I thought was like, What a cute little cat!."

Just Like Its Host, Seth Meyers's Late Night Is Low-Key, Sharp And Political

Seth Meyers Jimmy Fallon Amy Poehler

It looks like Seth Meyers is going for the “start slow and build up from there” approach with his move to Late Night – that’s if his first show is any indication, at least. Taking over from Fallon, who started his Tonight Show run with a rooftop performance by U2 and more celebrity cameos than we could count last week, Meyers struck a completely different note. His hosting style seems to be much more about sharp one liners and crisp delivery, than anything else, really. He did mimic Fallon in one respect though – Meyers used the long-running Late Night segment “Thank You Notes” to send his predecessor a message of gratitude. Seated at his desk, Meyers wrote a letter to Jimmy Fallon, promising to treat Late Night "with respect and dignity and to only use it to do completely original comedy pieces … starting now.” Ha.

Seth Meyers
Meyers' first Late Night set a completely different tone.

His guests for the night were carefully chosen, obviously to pay homage to Meyers’ SNL roots. For his first guest, Meyers welcomed "Parks and Recreation" star Amy Poehler. Friends since they both joined the cast of "SNL" in 2001, the two shared an easy rapport. Poehler had nothing but encouragement for her former colleague. Mostly.

Seth Meyers Leaves SNL For Greener Pastures With Emotional Weekend Update

Seth Meyers Amy Poehler Bill Hader Melissa McCarthy Imagine Dragons

This week’s Saturday Night Live was hosted by Melissa McCarthy and featured some great sketches with her, but it was really Seth Meyers who stole the show. And rightfully so – it was Meyers’ last episode at the Weekend Update desk. Joined by former SNL co-stars Bill Hader (as Stefon) and Amy Poehler, Meyers was given a proper Weekend Update sendoff.

Seth Meyers said "so long" to SNL and moved on to greener pastures (and a premium time slot.)

Meyers is moving on to the next step of his career – replacing Jimmy Fallon as the host of Late Night – but that doesn’t mean there weren’t some emotional goodbyes. "This is the job I always wanted, and I had the best time," Meyers said in lieu of a witty closing line at the end of his last Weekend Update.

Fallon is excited to take over the Tonight Show from longtime host Leno.

It was announced earlier this year, that after many shifts at NBC, Leno would be replaced by Fallon and The Tonight Show will return to his original home in NYC. Before Fallon leaves his current home at Late Night, however, he will bow out one last time, with a special episode of the show, commemorating his run. A special, entitled “Best of Late Show with Jimmy Fallon” is set to air early in 2014. Fallon will then be replaced with Saturday Night Live alumn Seth Meyers, because NBC likes to keep it in the family apparently. Fallon even talked to the NY Daily News about some possible improvements that’ll be brought to the Tonight Show after his takeover.

Late night sketch series Saturday Night Live carries on its shakeup as Cecily Strong – one of the most popular members of the show – jumps on the news desk to bring you a satirical take on the week’s events with Seth Meyers.

Seth MeyersStrong is a strong choice, according to Meyers

Creator and current producer of the show, Lorne Michaels, had a pretty busy time remodelling the show with people coming & going, and a freshen up very much needed. But for him, Strong’s presence and talent bought her the step-up. “Cecily, from the first show, was right there,” he said. “She exploded.” (L.A Times)

After SNL, Where Does Jason Sudeikis Go Next?

Jason Sudeikis Bill Hader Fred Armisen Andy Samberg Seth Meyers Kristen Wiig Jennifer Aniston Emma Roberts Seth Gordon Jason Bateman Charlie Day

Jason Sudeikis, the most high profile member of the Saturday Night Live cast, has announced he will not be returning to the show in the fall. Sudeikis is following comedians Bill Hader, Fred Armisen, Andy Samberg, Seth Meyers and Kristen Wiig out of the long-running show, leaving NBC bosses with a dilemma on their hands as they seek to keep the show relevant, popular and most of all funny for its 39th season.

Sudeikis, who has worked on the show for 10 years, announced the news during a taping of the Late Show with David Letterman,

"Yeah, I'm going to leave. Yeah, I'm not coming back next fall." he told the veteran host, to a bewildered audience. Letterman had apparently not heard of the departure and began asking the actor questions about life working on the show, with the 37-year-old dropping the bombshell shortly after.

Jimmy Fallon Reveals Newborn Daughter's Name: Welcome Winnie Rose!

It was the moment Jimmy Fallon's fans had been waiting for: after his wife screenwriter Nancy Juvonen gave birth to a healthy baby girl on Tuesday (23rd July), devotees to his Late Night TV show clamoured to learn the name of the little one almost as much as the world were rabid for details on the royal baby who was born a day earlier...almost.

Last night, the 38-year-old comedian opened his show with a special monologue setting the record straight about his newfound fatherhood: "I'm your host 'dada.' I'm the father of a beautiful baby girl, she's so cute. Her name is Winnie Rose Fallon and she's so cute...she's five pounds nine ounces" gushed the presenter to shrieks of excitement from his audience. It was inevitable that amidst the recent media storm, the royal baby would be mentioned in relation to the timing of Winnie Rose's birth: "Yes William and Kate, we'll definitely set up a play date, stop bothering me. Yes, everyone's still talking about the other baby."

US actor Jason Sudeikis has revealed on the Late Show With David Letterman that the most recent season of entertainment show Saturday Night Live was his last, adding to Bill Hader and Fred Armisen's announcements that they too were leaving and Kristen Wiig's 2012 exit. The cast is set to dwindle further in 2014 when Seth Meyers leaves to take overhosting duties from Jimmy Fallon on Late Night after the Winter Olympics next year.

After being asked how long it's possible for someone to last on a show, Sudeikis replied "A person can go as long as they want. Lorne [Michaels, SNL producer] has been kicking butt at it for 33 of the 38 years. But me, yeah, no I'm definitely done. I'm going to leave, I'm not coming back next fall, no." The actor/comedian spent eight years as a performer on the show and two years as a writer; his exit confirmation comes after 10 seasons at SNL. According to USA Today, Sudeikis had originally planned to make his exit in 2012 but was convinced by Michaels to stay so he could play Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney during the presidential election season.

Saturday Night Live's Seth Meyers Engaged To Longtime Girlfriend Alexi Ashe

SNL might be like one big family, but Seth Meyers has decided to start one of his own, by getting engaged! Us Weekly broke the news that Meyers has popped the question to his longtime girlfriend Alexi Ashe, confirmed by a spokesperson for the comedian. The pair have been together for several years, before they decided to move on to the next level.

Ashe is also Meyers’s lawyer and the two met at a wedding several years ago. That might have been a sign, as the relationship has been steady as a rock ever since and it was only a matter of time for Meyers to propose, according to a source for the magazine. Well, a matter of time and timing, more specifically. With Meyers moving on from SNL and taking over Late Night from Jimmy Fallon in 2014, said timing was apparently perfect. He will stay on as head writer of the sketch comedy format through the fall, but his acting gig is done, meaning that the funnyman will be free to take on his engagement duties.

Saturday Night Live Is Cast Member Short After Bill Hader's Departure

Bill Hader Seth Meyers Jason Sudeikis

Let’s shed a collective tear for Bill Hader leaving SNL. Not for Hader himself of course, as we all know that talented comedians who had their start on the sketch show usually do quite well for themselves. And Emmy-nominated Hader certainly doesn’t seem to be slowing down. No, what will be missed are Hader’s characters, starting with the overly caffeinated “Weekend Update” city correspondent, Stefon. Yes, Hader is probably moving on to bigger and better things, but who will tell us what New York’s hottest club is now?

“It was a hard decision, but it has to happen at some point,” Mr. Hader said in an interview. “It got to a point where I said, ‘Maybe it’s just time to go.’ ”

Hader, 34, has had an impressive run on SNL. After joining as a featured performer in 2005, he was soon promoted to a full-time castmember and went on to create some memorable impersonations of people like James Carville, Al Pacino, Vincent Price and Julian Assange. The actor isn’t the only one leaving SNL of late though. This large-scale departure of talent, including writer/castmember Seth Meyeres (who is leaving to replace Jimmy Fallon on The Late Show) as well as possibly Fred Armisen and Jason Sudeikis, could pose a problem for the show.

Introducing Seth Meyers: Jimmy Fallon's Late Night Replacement

Seth Meyers

It’s been revealed that Seth Meyers will replace Jimmy Fallon as the host of NBC’s Late Night show, with the popular chat show host, Fallon, moving up one hour to take charge of the network’s NBC show. They could’ve perhaps gone for a bigger name, but this appointment was expected, and as we ask ourselves who Seth Meyers is, it becomes pretty clear that, though not much of a marquee name, the incoming host is perhaps a shrewd choice by NBC.

You’ve got to give serious props to anyone who ascends through the ranks of the hugely popular entertainment s how Saturday Night Live and Meyers achieved more than most there. Joining the cast of the long-running show in 2001, he was elevated to writing supervisor in 2005 and the following year become co-head writer along with Andrew Steele and Tina Fey – and we certainly know how much pedigree Fey has currently. In addition to that, Meyers was moved onto Weekend Update, first as co-anchor with another burgeoning star, Amy Poehler, and then solo when she left the show during the 2008-2009 season.

Meyers has appeared frequently on Saturday Night Live, impersonating various figures, including Tobey Maguire, Ryan Seacrest, Sean Penn and Tom Cruise. A constantly lively and sharp writer, Meyers was given the credit for Tina Fey’s infamous Sara Palin impersonations during the 2008 election and his move to Late Night seems to be merely a full stepping out into the limelight himself, after years of providing the platform for others.

Meet Seth Meyers, The New Host Of 'The Late Show'

Saturday Night Live Seth Meyers

The merry-go-round is slowly starting to creak into motion. Jay Leno is deemed too old and not hip enough for the Tonight Show, so Jimmy Fallon gets the nod. Seth Meyers gets upgraded from Saturday Night Live head writer and news presenter to Late Show host.

Meyers, 39, will be the fourth comedian to host Late Night since it went on the air in 1982. It started way back when with David Letterman, followed by Conan O'Brien and Fallon. "Seth couldn't be in better company," SNL executive producer Lorne Michaels said. "We think Seth is one of the brightest, most insightful comedy writers and performers of his generation," NBC Entertainment Chairman Bob Greenblatt said in the official announcement. In an interview before taking the stage on Saturday’s edition of Saturday Night Live, Meyers said: “Working at ‘SNL’ requires 100 percent of your mental capacity — on easy weeks. And so I had not really spent a lot of time thinking about what I was going to do next. Obviously I can’t quit Lorne. So this seems like a pretty good deal that I have an opportunity to keep working with him.”

Michaels added: “The thing that’s staggering to me is that since 1982 there have been only three hosts, and Seth will be the fourth. And when you look at the company, it’s all pretty good company.” Both hosts are expected to fill their new boots next year in February, around the same time NBC begins its coverage of the winter Olympics in Russia.

Meyers, Fallon, Leno - The NBC Chain Of Events Keeps Going

Jimmy Fallon Jay Leno Seth Meyers

As rumours of Jimmy Fallon succeeding Jay Leno for NBC’s late night slot are pretty much solid at this point, another name has been added to the roster – that of Saturday Night Live’s Seth Meyers.

Since Fallon will almost certainly be moving to the Tonight Show from 2014 onwards, somebody has to take his spot on The Late Show and, according to NBC insiders, that somebody might just be Meyers. Fallon has been groomed by the network to replace Tonight Show veteran Leno for some time now, reportedly because NBC are desperate to appeal to a younger audience. The decision to boot Leno in particular, however, has had many industry insiders baffled, since the Tonight Show actually fills the only slot where NBC hasn’t been having trouble with ratings. While the network struggles to pull in audiences with their early morning and prime time programming, Leno has been performing consistently. Not only that – he is currently ahead of ABC’s Letterman and CBS’s Kimmel in ratings, according to USA Today.

Apparently though, NBC aren’t planning to stick to the old standard – if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it - and are instead trying to prepare for the hypothetical future with hip programming to appeal to them young-uns. In any case, Fallon’s move hasn’t been confirmed by the network yet – aside from a vague hint here and there, but the rumours of Seth Meyers transfer add a whole new dimension to the entire deal. Perhaps the changes at NBC are at a larger scale than we’ve expected.
