The strictly R-rated animation 'Sausage Party' became a surprise hit at the box office over the weekend, pulling in $36.8 million domestically. However, according to a recent report, this movie wasn't so much fun for the animation department. Some animators who claim to have worked on the movie revealed that working conditions were a nightmare.

However, according to the comments on the article, nothing could be further from the truth.

But Rogen, who also produced both films and cowrote the sequel, wanted to make sure the moment was right. "A few things made us want to do a sequel," he explains. "We thought that the theme of growing up had an organic place it could go. And that the characters were interesting enough that maybe you would like to see what happened next in their lives. And that could be relatable as well."

For Efron, returning to the role was a no-brainer. "I was excited about the potential for a sequel because I just really love this group of people," he says. "So I just felt that there was more to do with this group. And rather than just like write a whole new movie that we'd all magically fit into, it was convenient that they came up with a sequel! So I was really happy."

Director Danny Boyle has expressed his dismay at the much-publicised box office failure of his new movie Steve Jobs after it failed to attract its anticipated audience, with the news that Universal has withdrawn it from over 2,000 screens in the U.S.

The 59 year old maestro was talking to the BBC ahead of the troubled movie’s release in Britain on Friday (November 13th). Despite the favourable reviews it received, it opened in a lowly seventh place two weekends ago, taking just $7.3 million from 2,493 locations. The studio reacted by dramatically scaled that number back to only 421 screens, and Boyle admitted that they had gone “too wide too soon” and should have built up more slowly from its limited release on October 9th.

The Interview continues to be one of the surprise success stories of 2015 and will now receive a UK release on February 6. The comedy movie starring Seth Rogen and James Franco looked dead and buried after most theaters in the U.S appeared to buckle under pressure from North Korea and avoided screening the movie.

Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai has addressed the recent hack at the studio for the first time, thanking employees for their support through the difficult period and underlining the importance of freedom of expression.

Seth Rogen, James Franco and Co. got one heck of a New Years gift this week, with the expansion of its theatrical release and a new deal with dish for on-demand broadcasting. Besides some really clever business decisions on the part of Sony, it appears that the controversy around the hack from December has worked in the film’s favour. For the low, low price of $5.99, Dish subscribers will be able to rent the film, the network announced on Thursday. On Wednesday, Sony Pictures announced the film would be available on outlets such as Bright House Networks, Comcast, Cox Communications and Time Warner Cable. It also became available on VOD and pay-per-view services of Charter Communications, Cablevision, AT&T U-verse TV, Verizon's FiOS and DirecTV, according to the LA Times. This means that The Interview will now be available in roughly 80 million homes across the US

After threats, hacks, pulled screenings and even Obama weighing in The Interview, starring James Franco and Seth Rogen opened on Christmas day in 300 theatres, while also becoming available to watch online. Despite the controversial circumstances surroundings its (non) release, The Interview has grossed over $1 million in its first day of release. The last-minute decision might have represented something of a gamble, but Sony Corporation seem to have ended a torrid couple of weeks on a high note.

Having cancelled the comedy’s release a week ago amid threats from a cyberhacking group, the studio reversed its decision and rushed out last-minute copies of the film to 320 independent cinemas through the States. Nonetheless, the decision has resulted in an impressive PR coup for the company, who have been accused of caving in to threats to free speech.

Soon after Obama put everyone at ease, announcing that the Sony hack was not, in fact, an act of war, another authority on all matters evil and genius spoke on the topic. Dr. Evil everyone, aka Mike Myers, in full supervillain garb, came out with a video message, addressing the Sony hackers.

Speaking on NBC's Saturday Night Live, Myers said: "I've pre-empted this programme because I'm furious that North Korea [the country believed to be behind the hack] and Sony Pictures have both given evil organisations a bad name." The 51-year-old actor continued: "Let's start with you, North Korea. You're one of the most evil countries in the world, and your act of war is to kill a movie? It's easy to kill a movie... just move it to January."

The big movie news this week has been Sony's decision to cancel the release of the James Franco/Seth Rogen comedy The Interview due to threats made by a hacking group. North Korea has filed an official complaint with the UN regarding the upcoming movie The Interview, requesting that the comedy be banned from distribution. The movie, which stars Seth Rogen and James Franco, is a comedy about a plot to kill the current North Korean leader, Kim Jong-Un.

The movie tells the story of two journalists who are tasked with killing the dictator after they land a rare interview with him. The movie's publicity has been met with much anger from the North Korean authorities. Failure to stop the release of the film on 14 October in the US would, it has been threatened, result in a "resolute and merciless response."

The UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon received a letter dated the 27th June from North Korea's UN Ambassador Ja Song Nam. The letter, which has been made public this week, does not give the name of the movie but describes a plot that "involves insulting and assassinating the supreme leadership," according to Reuters.

North Korea has threatened to reap "merciless" retaliation on the US if they do not ban the Seth Rogen and James Franco comedy movie The Interview. The notorious government issued a statement about the film, which stars the Hollywood actors as journalists tasked with assassination Kim Jong-un.

The North Korean regime has unsurprisingly attacked a Hollywood comedy movie with James Franco and Seth Rogen as representing the “desperation” of American society. A spokesman for Kim Jong-Un said the dictator would probably watch The Interview, which sees two talk show host tasked with assassinating the controversial leader after being granted a rare face-to-face.

Kim Myong-choi, executive director of the Centre for North Korea-US Peace and an unofficial spokesman for the regime in Pyongyang was dismissive of the movie. "There is a special irony in this storyline as it shows the desperation of the US government and American society," he told The Telegraph. "A film about the assassination of a foreign leader mirrors what the US has done in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and Ukraine," he added. "And let us not forget who killed [President John F.] Kennedy – Americans. "In fact, President [Barack] Obama should be careful in case the US military wants to kill him as well," Kim Myong-chol said.

The success of Seth Rogen’s Neighbors, which made a staggering $51 million over its debut weekend, proves that, when R-rated comedies work, they really work. The genre tends to be a bit hit-and-miss, but Rogen’s latest was a safe bet for Universal – his last foray into crude adult humor – This Is The End – made over $101 million domestically.

“It’s escapism, and when it works — and ‘Neighbors’ worked — comedies are just a great way for people to escape,” Nikki Rocco, head of domestic distribution for Universal, said for Variety.

Oh James Franco, where to start? Remember in February when everybody was getting weirded out by Shia LaBeouf and his Berlin paper bag ‘I am not famous anymore’ incident? Well one person who jumped to the actor’s defence was James Franco, by way of a NY Times article entitled ‘Why Actors Act Out’. In the piece he writes that he hoped Shia’s recent antics were “intended as a piece of performance art, one in which a young man in a very public profession tries to reclaim his public persona.” Now over two months on, Shia’s antics are out of the press and it’s Franco’s own behaviour which is taking up tabloid inches.

First there was the incident when Franco appeared to be inviting a 17 year old fan to join him in a hotel room. After the screen capped exchange went viral Franco didn't seem to deny that the incident happened and would later tell Howard Stern that he felt he’d acted like a “gentleman” towards the young fan. This was not what the rest of Franco’s fanbase where expecting, because really the whole thing seemed too much like an elaborate stunt to promote Franco’s movie, Palo Alto, which is out later this month.

Neighbors is out in theaters this week – Friday, May 9 – meaning it’s just about time for the flood of reviews of Seth Rogen’s latest. In this one, Zac Efron gets to walk around without the burden of a shirt for half a movie as the head of a fraternity, which inexplicably moves into a suburban house. Rogen and Rose Byrne star as Mac and Kelly, new parents who go to war against the frat bros. This one is as rude and crude as you might expect, but as it turns out it’s also seriously funny. The critics agree, giving it a resounding thumbs up and a 96% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

When ‘Bad Neighbours’ was announced, film critics would have been forgiven for exhaling in the form of a sigh; Seth Rogen – despite a loyal, cult fan base, has been the face of some pretty terrible films; it’s only the brilliant ones that grant him ‘incosistant’ status rather then ‘rubbish’. And with Zac Efron still making the transition from quasi-Bieber to friend of Franco-comedy, the jury was always going to be sceptical.

But it would appear as though Efron and Rogen – under the tutelage of director David Stoller and given words by Andrew J. Cohen & Brendan O’Brien – have nailed it. The jokes are crude, of course, and the punch lines are often stupid, but this simple tale of youthful exuberance v a middle class yearning for comfort is an entertaining romp, for sure.

‘Freaks and Geeks’ may have only lasted for one season, but the show has had an enduring legacy, not least of all for producer Judd Apatow who has just called his whole career 'revenge' for its cancellation. With just 18 episodes (only 12 of which NBC aired), how can such a little show have made such a big impact?  Well you only have to look at the list of people who came together on the ‘Freaks and Geeks’ set to understand while we’re still talking about it 14 years later. James Franco, Seth Rogen and Jason Segel are just a few of the names who started their careers in the McKinley high cafeteria.

Firstly if you’ve never seen or heard of ‘Freaks and Geeks’, you need to go and find a way to watch it, now. The short lived series, which originally aired on NBC between 1999 and 2000, has become a cult classic thanks to its fantastic script and timeless cast of characters, many of whom were played by now well known faces.

For those who care about films in the slightest, South by Southwest is the place to be this week. The conference, which runs March 7^th through March 16^th in Austin, Texas, is the place for enthusiasts to see the latest films, get album previews and generally have tons of fun. So, four days into SXSW, what are the highlights?

The VM cast was out in full force at SXSW.

First of all, there was Seth Rogen and Zac Efron’s Neighbors, which pits Rogen against Efron in a battle for dominance over a suburban street. In this comedy, directed by Nicholas Stoller from a script by Andrew J. Cohen and Brendan O’Brien, Rogen plays one half of a newly married couple, who are just settling into their cozy suburban nest. Efron and his band of frat boys, however, are there to ruin everything. According to THR, Neighbors got big laughs at its Paramount Theater premiere, so it might be one to look out for later in the year.

Most film fans probably know Seth Rogen as the slightly immature lead of films like Pineapple Express, Knocked Up and This Is The End. Real-life Rogen, however, had a serious problem on his mind, when he stood before a Senate committee to appeal for funding for Alzheimer’s care and research. Rogen shared the story of his mother in law, whose rapidly progressing Alzheimer educated the actor on the more severe, unseen effects of the disease. Peppering his speech with his trademark self-deprecating humor, Rogen also shared some of the work of Hilarity for Charity – an organization he and his wife started to educate young people about the effects of Alzheimer's. Rogen proudly explained that many college students are now starting their own fundraising campaigns to help Alzheimer's sufferers and their families.

Rogen and wife Lauren Miller started Hilarity for Charity, influenced by their own experience with Alzheimer's.

In a video, shared by ABC, Rogen said that before experiencing it firsthand, he was in the dark about the disease, thinking "it was something only really, really old people got" and involved "forgetting your keys and mismatched shoes."

Seth Rogen, who is an Alzheimer's Association celebrity Champion, attended a hearing in Washington on Wednesday (Feb 26th), to testify about the disease.

The 31 year-old spoke in front of a Senate Committee about his own personal experiences with family members suffering from Alzheimer's, ABC News reports.

Rogen explained that when he first met the parents of his wife Lauren Miller nine years ago, there was something noticeably wrong with his future mother-in-law, Adele.

Her might not be the most prominent Oscar contender, but it is still one helluva movie

First off we were treated to a Phillip Seymour Hoffman-featuring parody of the new Spike Jonze movie Her, one that used cut-up snippets of the Oscar-winner's film repertoire in place of Scarlett Johansson's soothing utterances. Last night (25 Jan.) we saw Jonah Hill lampoon the film on Saturday Night Live, but earlier this week we're sure the best parody of them all was uploaded on to YouTube.

'Him' doesn't actually star any big names, but it does feature one heck of a good impression of the loveable Canadian comic Seth Rogen. The YouTube channel Paul Gale Comedy created and uploaded the parody, which pokes fun at the Oscar contender as well as gently ribbing Rogen, mocking his penchant for da 'erb and also mirroring his distinctive laugh spot on. It's probably the best portrayal of Seth Rogen since Seth Rogen played Seth Rogen in This Is The End.

Seth Rogen has given his opinion on the recent arrest of Justin Bieber for DUI and resisting arrest, and he didn't tread lightly when voicing what he really thinks of the singer. The comic actor and writer labelled the much-despised star a "piece of sh*t" on Twitter, shortly after the 'news' of the Canadian pop star's arrest was announced.

There are also rumours that Justin stole his quiff look from Rogen, which gives him more reason to be a hater

Rogen hit out at the Biebs following his arrest in Miami on Thursday, 23 January, morning and to put it lightly, the This Is The End star clearly isn't a Belieber. Seth tweeted: "All jokes aside, Justin Bieber is a piece of s**t."

Zac Efron has joined in the fun of spoofing Kanye West's new music video, 'Bound 2,' by posting his own version of the cheesy scene on Instagram. The real 'Bound 2' was released last week showing Kanye and his topless fiancée Kim Kardashian riding a motorbike through mountains and sunsets. Naturally the video was an open invitation for parodies and we were quickly given Seth Rogen and James Franco's hilarious 'Bound 3.'
