Seth Rogen is throwing James Franco a Bar Mitzvah.

The 33-year-old actor has revealed he is throwing the special ceremony for his 'The Interview' co-star, whose mother is Jewish, at his fourth annual variety show in Los Angeles on October 17, 2015 to help raise funds for he and his wife Lauren Miller Rogen's organisation Hilarity for Charity.

In a statement, the comedian said: ''Ever since I've known James, he's been talking about wanting a Bar Mitzvah.

''We're excited to see him finally become a man while also helping us raise awareness and funds for people living with Alzheimer's and towards research that will lead to a cure. And in celebration we'll also have a mohel and a live bris for James at the event.''

Last year's prom-themed show featured appearances from Samuel L. Jackson, Paul Rudd, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Sarah Silverman, and raised $1 million for the charity, which works to inspire change and raise awareness about Alzheimer's disease among young people.

Seth and Lauren set up the organisation after her mother was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's at age 55.

Lauren added: ''Five million Americans are currently living with the disease and it is the sixth leading cause of death in the U.S., yet it is the least funded and the only one with no treatment whatsoever. I hope we're able to capture the attention of more young people, and get the disease the type of funding it deserves.''
