The actor has been making headlines for the wrong reasons over the past year and was arrested for disorderly conduct in June.
Shia LaBeouf showed a side of himself we’ve rarely seen on the ‘Ellen Show’ this past Friday (October 10th), opening up to the chat show host about his often strange behaviour over the past year.

The 28 year old actor, who is currently staring in World War II drama Fury opposite Brad Pitt, said the events of the past year had been part of an “existential crisis, which turned into some kind of exploration” for the actor.
Over the past year the former Transformer’s star has made headlines with his antics, which include wearing a paper bag over his head with “I AM NOT FAMOUS ANYMORE” written on it to a movie premiere. He also donned the paper bag again for a performance art piece in Los Angles where he sat in a room surrounded by a selection of implements (including an Indiana Jones whip) and invited people to come and “do whatever they wanted” with him.

Explaining the piece he said, “There was a lot of negativity online. So I thought alright, well let’s see what all this negativity is all about. Let’s invite it in.” “I was sort of like apologising to the public in a way,” he continued. “So I thought for sure people were gonna come in and be super mean from what I’d been reading.”
“But it wasn’t that way at all; it was very human. Once they got in there everything changed. They stopped looking at me as like an object (and) they started looking at me as like a human,” he continued.
The actor further explained his motivation by adding, “I got into this industry cause I had this void, so I thought being good at being an actor would somehow fill that void. And like you know, a lot of entertainers (are) this way, and so I think people just really want to make a mark. So people online making the comments just want to make a mark. So I think we suffer from the same thing, which is just a lack of attention and love.”

LaBeouf then opened up about his June arrest for disorderly conduct, saying that the 24 hours he’d spent in jail were “very, very scary”. He went on to describe how authorities had put a Hannibal style mask on him, as well as a lead jacket after he had spit on an officer. The actor then took the opportunity to apologise to the officer saying, “I’m sorry if you’re watching dude. I’m sorry. That was crazy, man.”

LaBeouf finished by assuring us all he was now “on the right path,” thanks to his mother Shayna. “Thank you, Mom,” he said, while blowing a kiss to the camera.
