James Buckley Concedes, "I'd Be Up For The Inbetweeners 3'

James Buckley Simon Bird

James Buckley, the star of The Inbetweeners series and subsequent movies, admits that a third film could happen should writers Damon Beesley and Iain Morris get the script right. The quartet, made up of Buckley, Simon Bird, Joe Thomas and Blake Harrison, have been forthright in their intention to leave the Inbetweeners story in Australia - the setting of the sequel - though with box-office records once again being smashed, they may receive an offer they can't refuse.

"I was proud of the last one and thought, "We're not going to top that",' he told Metro. "Then the guys came to us with this idea of going on a trip and that's absolutely brilliant but I don't think it can get much bigger than Australia.

'The Inbetweeners 2' Crushes Its Own Box-Office Record

Three years ago, The Inbetweeners Movie opened by stealth in August 2011, making a monster £2.58 million in its first day of release, a one-day UK record for a comedy. Without any press screenings, the TV-comedy based movie caught critics by surprise, as word about the release came only through TV ads, cast appearances and posters on the sides of busses.

The Inbetweeners 2The Inbetweeers are back!

But everyone was ready for the sequel's arrival this week. It opened on Wednesday without any press screenings, but several journalists were invited along to Tuesday night's premiere. And despite mixed reviews (four stars from The Telegraph, one star from Little White Lies, two-and-a-half from Contactmusic), the film broke its own record by taking £2.7 million on Wednesday. The only films that have made more in one midweek day are the final Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings movies.

Drop Everything Else, 'The Inbetweeners' Are Coming Back In 2014!

In a year filled with sequels, the announcement of the second Inbetweeners movie still comes as a bit of a surprise. But the first movie, based on the cult E4 show did go on to become a huge hit, so the second one is probably a good investment. The 2011 Inbetweeners movie, which centered around Will, Jay, Simon and Neil heading off to the Greek island of Crete for a post-graduation holiday, became the highest grossing comedy in the history of British cinema. With an opening weekend of £13 million and over £80 million in worldwide earnings, the film set the bar high for future sequels.

Filming on Part 2 begins later this year and the film is set to be released in August 2014. Creators Iain Morris and Damon Beesley said in a statement for the BBC: "We couldn't be more excited to be making another Inbetweeners movie."

Over 3 million British viewers tuned in for the UK television premiere of The Inbetweeners Movie on Channel 4 last night, according to The Guardian. It eclipsed the BBC1 drama Hunted and continued the phenomenal success of the film, which broke box office records in the UK, taking £45 million.

3.2 million viewers tuned in to watch Will, Simon, Jay and Neil jet off to Malia for their first 'lad's holiday'. It represented a 16.4% share of the audience between 9pm and 11.05pm - a considerably chunk. Drama Hunted pulled in 2.6 million for an 11.2% share. Over on Channel 5, the Kevin Costner starring drama-western Hatfields & McCoys pulled in 1 million. On Dave, the new series of Red Dwarf coaxed in 975,000 viewers for a 4.2% share, while Kirstie's Vintage Home began with 2 million viewers between 8pm and 9pm. It was beaten by BBC2's MasterChef: The Professionals which had 2.4 million viewers including 102,000 on BBC HD.

Earlier this year, writer Damon Beesley told The Sun that he and co-creator Iain Morris were "developing an idea for  sequel" to the Inbetweeners movie, however, actor Simon Bird has since said there were "no concrete plans" and insisted that it hinged on a "strong enough idea."

Simon Bird: "The First Film Was A Good Conclusion To 'The Inbetweeners'

Simon Bird

Star of 'Friday Night Dinner' and teen comedy 'The Inbetweeners' Simon Bird has quelled rumours that a new Inbetweeners movie may be in the pipeline.

Speculation erupted earlier this year as to whether the team would reconvene for a sequel, when Damon Beesley and Iain Morris, creators of The Inbetweeners, told The Sun that they were "developing an idea for a sequel". In response to this however, Bird said that whether the project actually goes ahead depends on whether there is a "strong enough idea" and repeated that there "are no concrete plans" for it to be taken forward at this point.

In an interview with Digital Spy, Bird said "I think we all feel like the first film was a good conclusion to The Inbetweeners - but at the same time... if they come to us and say that they have a good idea for another one, then obviously we'd be happy to talk about it. They haven't done that yet, despite the papers saying that a sequel is confirmed." Although this isn't a concrete 'no' it certainly looks as though we might be waiting a long while for a sequel. If fans are heartbroken over this news, check out the US remake of the comedy, which began broadcasting on MTV this August.

Friday Night Dinner: Inbetweeners Actor Simon Bird Reveals Near-Death Strangulation

Simon Bird The Inbetweeners

The Inbetweeners star Simon Bird has revealed how he almost died whilst filming the Channel 4 sitcom Friday Night Dinner. Simon and his co-star Tom Rosenthal (who plays his brother in the show) apparently like to make their sibling fighting look real… by making sure that it is. The show’s producers had to suspend filming when things got a little out of hand during a strangling scene, though, as Tom got a little exuberant with the strangulation and things got a little too close for comfort for Simon Bird.

“We did hurt each other quite regularly. When I hurt Tom, he would get me back on the next take,” said Simon. “It did escalate. Tom got really into the bit when he is strangling me. There was definitely a moment I thought, ‘This is the end’, I could see the light at the end of the tunnel.” Before you start feeling too sorry for the geeky young actor though, it’s not all been a one-sided infliction of pain, as he explains to The Sun: “While acting, you want to make it look real, so when we gave each other dead arms or tried to strangle each other, we did it properly. We did have to stop filming because Tom has a weak knee and one of his ligaments snapped after I jumped on him.”

He remembered to clarify that it was all scripted violence, though: “I wasn’t just doing these things off my own back.”
