Simon Cowell has reportedly decided on the song which will be covered by the winner of this year’s ‘X-Factor’. The music mogul is said to have picked Bob Dylan’s 1974 classic ‘Forever Young’ for the 2015 winner to re-work, a choice that’s sure to anger many music fans.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "Simon is aware that the song choice will split opinion. Some will argue he is introducing Bob and the song itself to a new, younger audience. But arguably the majority will feel the opposite.”

"Bob stands for everything that ‘The X Factor’ does not, which means hearing the track will be tough for many musos to go through.” It’s not the first time ‘The X-Factor’ winner has been given a controversial choice of song to cover in the hope of reaching the number one spot at Christmas.

In 2008 Alexandra Burke covered Leonard Cohen classic ‘Hallelujah’, also angering music fans, many who joined an online campaign to get either the original track or Jeff Buckley’s 1994 cover to the top spot instead.

In 2009 winner Joe McElderry released a cover of Miley Cyrus 'The Climb’ which became the first ‘X-Factor’ winner’s song since 2004 not to reach the top spot at Christmas. McElderry was beaten to number on by Rage Against the Machine's 'Killing in the Name', after a Facebook-based campaign was started in protest of 'The X-Factor‍ 's' dominance over the Christmas charts.
