Cowell - the music industry mogul and TV's angry-faced talent judge - has apparently has avoided the embarrassment of having to air details of his affair with New York socialite Lauren Silverman in a court as part of her divorce trial from property developer, Andrew Silverman. Cowell was named as a co-respondent on legal papers filed by Andrew, meaning he could have been called to court to divulge not only details of the affair, but also his personal wealth; rumoured to be in the hundreds of millions.

To avoid such awkward circumstances, which could have heavily affected his career if printed in the press, the UK record boss has financed an "amicable" divorce settlement between the couple with a reported £10 million settlement, according to Yahoo!. After ten years of marriage, the couple agreed to joint custody of their 7 year-old son. BBC News reports a statement from Ms. Silverman's lawyers that explained "The matter has been resolved and the parties have moved on."

It was believed that property tycoon Andrew was gearing up to humiliate the TV star in court for having become involved with his wife after he introduced the pair. Simon and Andrew were known friends and Simon holidayed abroad upon a yacht Andrew had chartered last year. Lauren and Simon became acquainted and their relationship developed to the extent that the 36 year-old was Cowell's closest confidante in an exclusive band of female friends, or "harem," the 53 year-old associates himself with.

However, Mr. Silverman has not publically vented any ire towards Cowell, simply stating "As I've said all along, my priority was resolving this quickly for the sake of our son. Lauren and I both love him very much and I'm looking forward to starting a new chapter in our lives. Hopefully people will respect our family's privacy."

Although alleged details of the couple's affair have been heavily publicised, Cowell has not confirmed the story and deliberately side-stepped the question at a recent X Factor USA press conference saying, "Unfortunately, I have to keep this, for the moment, private. It's just one of those things." His split from fiancée Mezhgan Hussainy last year is rumoured to be because she found out about his affair with Lauren.

Lauren, now roughly 12 weeks pregnant, has allegedly told her friends that she sees a future with Cowell. The Hollywood Gossip reports that Cowell has gifted Lauren a $15 million mansion in which to bring up their child in Beverly Hills. Cowell has not commented on the Silvermans' divorce proceedings.
