REFORMED Smashing Pumpkins ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM

After announcing the reunion of (most of) the band’s classic Nineties line-up earlier this year, Smashing Pumpkins will be releasing a new studio album by the end of 2018.

Billy Corgan, who rounded up Jimmy Chamberlin and James Iha (but not D’Arcy Wretzky) for a wide-ranging Pumpkins reunion tour earlier this year, revealed that an album is on its way. Given a typically Corgan-esque turn of phrase for its title, Shiny and Oh So Bright, Vol. 1 / LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun. will be released on November 16th.

Smashing Pumpkins have expanded the activity conducted under their recent reunion to include new music, with plans to release two new EPs in 2018, according to frontman Billy Corgan.

Last month, Corgan announced that he was getting back together with two of the Smashing Pumpkins’ co-founders – guitarist James Iha and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin – for a North American tour in the summer of 2018, which will be focussing on the five studio albums released in the 1990s that are regarded to be their golden age.

Now, addressing recent rumours of the potential of new material, Corgan took to his Instagram account to confirm that the band was in the studio and putting together two EPs’ worth of tracks.

Following weeks of teasing the possibility of a reunion, Smashing Pumpkins have at last confirmed details of an in-depth tour set for the summer of 2018, with Billy Corgan getting fellow founding members James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlin onside.

The Smashing Pumpkins’ late-2000s guitarist Jeff Schroeder will join the band as they hit the road in the summer of 2018 for the ‘Shiny and Oh So Bright’ tour.

Marking the 30th anniversary of their formation, they’ll be “celebrating songs from their first five albums from Gish to Machina”, and “exclusively” playing music from those albums, according to a press release on Thursday morning (February 15th).

Billy Corgan has been branded ''insufferable'' in an extraordinary rant by D'Arcy Wretzky.

The Smashing Pumpkins star is embroiled in a bitter row with the band's former bassist, after it emerged she would not be part of an expected reunion.

Billy Corgan is working on 26 new songs as he rediscovers his love for guitar-based music.

The Smashing Pumpkins rocker - whose 2017 solo album 'Ogilala' heavily feature piano, strings and a more acoustic sound - has opened up on his time in the studio as he continues to leave fans in the dark about whether it will be another solo project or a reunion of the 'Tonight, Tonight' group.

Taking to social media over the weekend, he wrote: ''Ok, I misspoke. Today wasn't the last day in studio. More work ahead (lyrics, vocals, strings).

The Smashing Pumpkins and Marilyn Manson are set to unite on a co-headline tour of North America this Summer. Dubbed 'The End Of Times Tour', the series will span all major cities including Las Vegas, Dallas, New Orleans, Atlanta, Chicago and Toronto.

It's not an altogether unusual team; in December 2014, Manson made an appearance at the Pumpkins' show in London's Koko, performing a collaborative rendition of the latter's 1997 hit 'Ava Adore' and Manson's then new single 'Third Day of a Seven-Day Binge'. Now they'll be hitting the stage together officially with dates starting at the Concord Pavilion on July 7th and ending in Cincinnati's Riverbend Music Center on August 8th.

Just in time for Christmas, the Smashing Pumpkins will be releasing their eighth album 'Monuments To An Elegy'; the first of two albums within the space of the year, and the second instalment of their 'Teargarden by Kaleidyscope' album trilogy project.

The album follows up their 2012 offering 'Oceania'; a definite success for the band which scored highly positive reviews all round; and is led by their newest single 'Being Beige'. The first of two albums so far for their new label BMG, 'Monuments To An Elegy' will be quickly followed up by 'Day for Night'. The idea was originally thought out as a double album, but frontman Billy Corgan later decided it would work better for the fans as single releases, which, according to him, 'in itself changed the process, writing and review'.

Many Glasto goers woke up to the pitter patter of rain on canvas this morning as Wednesday's warm, humid weather well and truly dissolved into rain. By the Thursday evening, the site was drenched - what had initially been forecast as a "short sharp shower turned into an all-day deluge," according to the BBC. And where there's rain, there's mud: big sticky, gloopy, welly-stealing piles of it. This didn't deter any of the 118,000 ticket holders already onsite, with revellers retreating to indoor tents or embracing the wet weather and sludge with gusto by making mud slides. As the main festival wasn't even fully underway by then, we can't say we'd like to be sharing their tent this weekend - let's hope they've brought some babywipes!

Unlike everywhere else in the country, the rest of the weekend in the South-West is set to be mild, but not exactly toasty, with mean temperatures of 18°C combined with average windspeeds of about 15mph: so that little weather forecaster's cartoon of a grey cloud will pretty much sum up the weekend. 2009's extreme weather saw torrential downpours and thunderstorms lighting up the valley but was followed by 2010's glorious sunshine, which caused sunstroke and dust problems. Punters have a whole weekend of musical, comical and performance joy ahead of them to distract them from any weather woes though. Saturday night will be headlined by The Rolling Stones who have described the Glastonbury headline slot as an experience they were "destined" for, with organisers Michael and Emily Eavis "thrilled" to have the legendary Stones perform.
