Sofia Vergara is on the cover of Vanity Fair's May edition and, in the interview, she revealed how she met her fiancé, Joe Manganiello. The Modern Family actress explained how she thought Manganiello was "too handsome" for her and she even doubted, given their different filming schedules, anything would happen between the two.

Apparently, Manganiello began perusing Vergara not long after the 42-year-old actress announced she was separating from her former fiancé, Nick Loeb. Vergara announced her separation from businessman Loeb in May 2014 and, two months later, it was first reported that she and Manganiello had started dating. Manganiello contacted Vergara through her Modern Family co-star, Jesse Tyler Ferguson

"The day that I sent the press release [announcing the breakup with Loeb], Joe immediately contacted Jesse Tyler Ferguson, like, Please, please, please tell her I want her number. And I'm like, Jesse, no, he's too handsome," Vergara told Vanity Fair.

"Then, after two days of Jesse trying to convince me, I'm like, O.K., give him my number. I'm thinking, I'm in New Orleans shooting, and he's in L.A. Nothing's going to happen. But we started talking a lot, and then he showed up in New Orleans. Since then we've been inseparable. There's nothing about him I'd change other than the fact that he's four years younger than me."

In the interview, Vergara also openly addressed her fabulously curvy figure which, along with her sense of humour and intelligence, has made her a sex symbol. Yet, when she first moved to work in U.S. television and film, Vergara was encouraged to change herself for work, including her accent. Vergara even went to a voice coach in an attempt to disguise her Columbian accent, an experience she describes as "boring".

"I hired the speech coach, and you have to work so much. It's exhausting. It's also boring. And I have a bad ear, you know?" Vergara explained. "I've been in this country for 20-something years and I still sound like this . . . So I was going to auditions and the only thing I could focus on was the position of the tongue. I was not acting. And then I thought, if I can't get a job with my accent, this is not a job for me."

Fortunately, Vergara's unwillingness to compromise has made her one of the best known faces on television. In September 2014, Vergara was named by Forbes as television's highest paid actress and as one of their top 100 Most Powerful Women of 2014.
