SXSW 2014 is over. We saw 2200 bands playing over 100 stages. Well, we didn't actually see all those bands with our own eyes, but we've done all the hard work for you and trawled the web for the best reviews of this year's spectacular. Here's what you need to know about the biggest sounds coming of Austin, Texas.

New Yorkers Perfect Pussy played the Red 7 Patio on Friday March 17 and did nothing to dissuade critics labelling them the band to watch out for in 2014. Meredith Graves and co served up one of the most frenetic sets of the week and those in attendance were left with appetites well and truly whet for Perfect Pussy's debut full length album, due later this year.

We flagged up North London four-piece Wolf Alice as a band to watch in our SXSW preview and they didn't fail to impress during their set at Latitude 30 on March 11. The group - fronted by vocalist Ellie Roswell - released their debut EP _Blush_ in October last year and were named the single most blogged about band in the UK by BBC6 Music.

Another buzz band heading into SXSW 2014 were Leeds outfit Eagulls. Fresh from a now notoriously memorable appearance on the David Letterman show in the U.S, George Mitchell and his gang played a massive 10 shows in Austin, Texas. One of the performances left a Twitter surmising, "The Eagulls' singer looks like the preppie villain in a John Hughes movie."

"We like shows completely differently. We never come offstage and say we all enjoyed it," singer Mitchell told NME of the band's hectic festival schedule.

The band released their first single Tough Luck in October last year, followed by their self-titled debut LP on Partisan Records.

Brighton rock duo Royal Blood - Mike Keer on bass and vocals and Ben Thatcher on drums - garnered comparisons with the Black Keys following their March 12 show at Holy Mountain at SXSW.  The band are set support Arctic Monkeys at their huge shows in Finsbury Park in May and probably owe the Sheffield guys a pint or two, given Matt Helders wore their t-shirt at Glastonbury last year.

"If there's a band to beat at SXSW this year, it might be Royal Blood," said the Toronto Star.
