It’s been nearly 16 years since the Spice Girls released their last album, Forever, but now as the girl group’s 20th anniversary looms, it seems some new material might be coming our way. According to The Mirror, Geri Horner, Mel B and Emma Bunton spent 48 hours in a London studio this week, recording their first new material in years.

The newspaper reports that Mel B, Geri and Emma are poised to release a new record later this year and will embark on a small tour next year, where they will hit cities including London and Los Angeles.

Speaking to The Mirror Mel B said, “It’s funny, because back in the day people thought we had everything written for us but we’ve always written all our own songs. That’s why we’ve won Ivor Novello awards and all sorts.”

“Everything always comes from us, and to do something for our 20-year anniversary is the ultimate dream. If we do anything, we will be writing everything from scratch. We are all group texting and speak a lot.”

Mel B also instagramed a photo of herself along with Geri and Emma, which she captioned: “And I say oohhhh LALA”. But while the trio seem to be up for going back on the road for a reunion bash, one former member who has ruled herself out is Victoria Beckham.

A source told The Mirror: “Talks between the girls have been on-running for the past 12 months. It’s an incredibly exciting time and they are loving being back together. The only person throwing a spanner in the works is Victoria, who has been a bit of a Debbie Downer about the whole thing.”

"The feeling is she has gone all Hollywood and is deliberately trying to disassociate herself from her roots, which is sad,” the source added. “But the 20-year anniversary is gearing up to be something very special.”
