They'll be unveiling a new set of films set in a galaxy far, far away.
With 'Game Of Thrones' set to wrap with its final series in 2019, creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are preparing to transition into an exciting new project. They're planning to take on the 'Star Wars' universe with a series of spin-off films of their own which can only be a recipe for success.
David Benioff and D.B. Weiss at 'Game of Thrones' season premiere
The writers have won four Emmys for their worldwide small screen phenomenon that is 'Game of Thrones', based on the book series by George R.R. Martin, and now they have set their sights on the world of cinema with an extension into the already hugely popular 'Star Wars' franchise.

A 46-minute version of 'The Last Jedi', with all the female characters excluded or heavily edited, appeared earlier this month on a file-sharing site. It's not very good.
An angry fan of the franchise took the time to create a “men-only” version of The Last Jedi on file-sharing site Pirate Bay, reducing its running time to just 46 minutes, lopping out nearly two hours of material in response to what he (obviously a he) regarded as the over-population of the latest movie’s plot by female characters.
Laura Dern’s character of Admiral Holdo was cut out of the film entirely, with Daisy Ridley’s Rey and Kelly Marie Tran’s Rose Tico both having their roles drastically reduced. Even the late Carrie Fisher didn’t escape unscathed, edited down so that Princess Leia no longer “scolds, questions nor demotes” the rebel fighter pilot Poe Dameron.
He'd be happy to be included in the upcoming spin-off.
As we await the release of the second 'Star Wars' anthology film, 'Solo', Ewan McGregor has spoken out about his interest in reprising his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi for the possible upcoming spin-off flick about the character's origins. However, there are still no details about the project.
Ewan McGregor at the 'Beauty and the Beast' premiere
The 46-year-old actor won Best Actor in a Limited Series for his role in the third season of crime thriller 'Fargo' at the 75th Golden Globe Awards yesterday (January 7th 2018), and he went on to tell reporters backstage that he was more than interested in returning to former role.

The most exciting movies set to drop in the coming months.
As always, there are far too many sequels, spin-offs, remakes and reboots clogging the cinemas, but surely some will be worth the effort. Release dates are subject to change, of course, but there's still an exciting bunch spread throughout the year. Here are our most highly-anticipated films (not in chronological order).
1. Solo: A Star Wars Story (May) - This film may have been mired in production chaos, but we still want to see this origin story about Han, Chewie and Lando. And that cast is superb.
2. Widows (Nov) - Steve McQueen directs this female heist thriller starring Viola Davis and Michelle Rodriguez. More girl power: Red Sparrow (Mar), Ocean's 8 (Jun), Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (Jul), Mary Poppins Returns (Nov).

Here are our favourite films of last year.
There were some nice surprises in cinemas this year, with thoughtful thrillers, quality blockbusters, exhilarating franchise reboots and twists on familiar genres. Needless to say, it was difficult wittling down the number to just ten, but we reckon the following definitely captivated our imaginations the most.
Daniel Kaluuya in 'Get Out'
1. Get Out - Comic actor Jordan Peele made his writing-directing debut with this hugely enjoyable horror film, which keeps the audience laughing while knowingly grappling with race and class themes.

The film may have divided fans, but it's still making big bucks in the box office.
Disney and Lucasfilm are bringing the year to end with a big bang, as it's been revealed that their latest episodic release in the 'Star Wars' franchise, 'The Last Jedi' will pass the $1 billion mark in the worldwide box office this weekend, even before the holiday that is New Year's Day on Monday, January 1, 2018.
Oscar Isaac returns as Poe alongside droid BB-8 in 'The Last Jedi'
Half of that total was amassed in the film's very first week of release, and whilst the competition wasn't as strong as it may have been for 'Star Wars' films of the past, it is worth noting it has beaten out contenders for the top spot each week, such as the new Dwayne Johnson-led film 'Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle'.
Hamill had declared in an interview, “he’s not my Luke Skywalker.”
Mark Hamill has admitted he regrets publicly voicing his criticism of ‘The Last Jedi’ and director Rian Johnson.
During the press tour for the film earlier this month, Hamill gave a few choice quotes about the direction of his character in the new movie, including saying he was “not my Luke Skywalker.”

The character was rejected by his sibling.
Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) may have failed in helping cultivate new Jedi talent, but according to a new slice of information now given to fans, he didn't get the best start when his sister refused his offer of a spot as his first Jedi padawan.
Carrie Fisher made her return as Leia in 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' back in 2015
When the 'Star Wars' franchise returned for a new trilogy in 2015 with J.J. Abrams-directed flick 'The Force Awakens', fans discovered that Luke had been unsuccessful in bringing new Jedi into the world following the betrayal of one of his students. Because of the new evil he had helped to unleash upon the world, he put himself into exile and didn't let anybody know of his location. That would form the basis of the plot of 'Force Awakens', with Rey (Daisy Ridley) working under the orders of Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher) to find out exactly where the latter's brother had put himself.

Audiences weren't the only ones with criticisms for the new movie.
Since the release of the eagerly anticipated 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi', there has been quite the mixed reaction from fans. Now it seems that even Mark Hamill had some reservations about the direction his character Luke Skywalker took within the new storyline created by Rian Johnson.
Mark Hamill at the premiere of 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi'
The 66-year-old was thrilled to be back in the thick of things with the second part of the new 'Star Wars' trilogy, having only made the briefest of appearances in 2015's 'The Force Awakens'. However, he did admit that he clashed slightly with the director/screenwriter over what he deemed a very different interpretation of his character.
'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' is finally upon us, and with it comes a returning cast of Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and others, as well as new additions to the cast such as Kelly Marie Tran and Laura Dern.
In this series of interviews, the actors - alongside director Rian Johnson - open up about their roles in this fantastic franchise, the extraordinary sets and scenaries they were placed in during filming, and just what it's like to be part of such a well-loved world.
'The experience has been inexplicable, I don't know that I can give it a definition', says newcomer Kelly Marie Tran, who plays Rose Tico in Episode VIII. 'I feel so many emotions all the time and I'm just trying to be really present.'

The movie is the lowest rated in the 'Star Wars' episodic film series.
Despite the great critical reception to 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi', the film hasn't fared as well with the overarching general public who have seen the movie, and the sci-fi picture is the joint lowest rated in the episodic 'Star Wars' series to-date, on a par with 2015's 'The Force Awakens'.
Adam Driver returns as Kylo Ren in 'The Last Jedi'
Though this isn't the greatest news for director Rian Johnson and the rest of those who have worked on 'The Last Jedi', it hasn't stopped it from taking in a brilliant $450 million worldwide in its opening weekend box office. It's that which may have led to the positive outlook and response from Disney this weekend, who addressed the elephant in the room that is the negative audience reaction.

The massive success is just under what 'The Force Awakens' did on its record-breaking opening weekend.
As was expected, 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' has had an incredible opening weekend in the worldwide box office, taking in $450 million across the globe and sitting just behind 2015's record-breaking 'Star Wars' release, 'The Force Awakens', which took in $529 million on its debut. That film of course did have the advantage of being the opener to a brand new trilogy, so the slight fall in opening weekend takings was to be expected.
Oscar Isaac returns for 'The Last Jedi'
Many of the millions made were in advance ticket sales, and Rian Johnson's entry into the episodic 'Star Wars' series has the United States to thank for $220 million of its opening weekend total.
He felt like he was on another world in 'The Last Jedi'.
It's true that the sets and scenery from 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' have been bigger and better than ever before, and for Mark Hamill it was almost an other-worldly experience that reminded him of his early days working on the franchise. He reveals his favourite memory from working on the new movie.

The 66-year-old 'Star Wars' legend was taken back to the days of 'Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope' with the new movie as they shot on the glorious island of Skellig Michael in County Kerry, Ireland for 'The Last Jedi'. There was a moment he almost believed he was Luke Skywalker.

This 'Star Wars' fan wanted to take these heroes on an unexpected journey.
Getting to direct a 'Star Wars' movie would be the opportunity of a lifetime for any filmmaker out there, but for Rian Johnson - who was a die-hard fan of the franchise before he even got involved - this was more than just a major a career break.

The director came on to helm the 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' movie with the enthusiasm of any huge fan of the movie series. He did not expect to be picked for such a major deal, following in the footsteps of someone like J.J. Abrams, it was just a dream come true.

He returns as Finn in the new film 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi'.
'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' is set to hit theatres this weekend, and star John Boyega reflects on how his life has changed since becoming a part of such a major cinematic legacy. After all, it was only two years ago that he was a small-time TV actor.

The 25-year-old returns as Finn in 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi'; the second installment of the new trilogy, following 2015's 'The Force Awakens' which was John's break-out role in his acting career. The fame is still something he's trying to get used to, but he's certainly grateful about what it's brought him.

She thinks the new movie has taken a Kurosawa turn.
'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' has been one of the most anticipated films of the year, with millions of people set to flock to cinemas this weekend to see Rey on her latest space adventure. Daisy Ridley reveals what we can expect from her much-loved character.
Daisy Ridley at the 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' premiere
First of all, everything we need to know about Rey is laid out in front of us; nothing has changed since we last saw her on 'The Force Awakens' as this sequel continues immediately after. However, there will certainly be a more badass transformation in the next film, with Daisy comparing the new look to that of typical Akira Kurosawa movies.
The film looks like it's going to be a major success.
Rian Johnson looks set to enjoy huge success with his upcoming 'Star Wars' movie, 'The Last Jedi'. Critics have been taking to their social media accounts after the embargo was lifted on them making their initial impressions taken from the movie known, and the overwhelming majority are promising one of the best romps through space there has ever been.
'The Last Jedi' hits cinemas on Friday, December 15
Whilst not much is known about the plot set to be followed in 'The Last Jedi', we do know that Daisy Ridley's character Rey will be successful in her quest of finding the self-exiled Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), whilst John Boyega's own character Finn will be waking up from his coma, following the intense battle he partook in during the final events of J.J. Abrams-directed seventh episode, 'The Force Awakens'.
The 25 year old star quit Instagram earlier this year.
The 25 year old star, who plays Rey in the upcoming eighth Star Wars film The Last Jedi, quit Instagram earlier this year and said she’ll “never go back on”. She spoke about why she did so, and about the negative impacts of being on social media on young people, in a new interview with Radio Times.
“The more I read about teenage anxiety, the more I think it's highly unhealthy for people's mental health,” she said this week. “It's such a weird thing for young people to look at distorted images of things they should be.”

With a new trilogy of films planned after Episode IX in 2019, the franchise's current star Daisy Ridley has said she doesn't see herself continuing as Rey.
With the eighth instalment in the Star Wars franchise just around the corner and excitement building about the recently announced new trilogy, Daisy Ridley has revealed that she will very likely not be taking part in any more Star Wars films beyond Episode IX.
Speaking to Rolling Stone magazine as part of a feature concerning Episode VIII, The Last Jedi, the English actress told the publication she is very unsure about returning to play her character Rey beyond her contractually obliged appearance in the ninth film in 2019, to be directed by JJ Abrams.
Asked whether she wants to portray Rey in the future, Ridley reportedly replied “no”.
The film will be the eighth episodic instalment to the sci-fi series.
'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' is already looking like it could be a major success in North America, with tracking services making an early prediction that the film will take in around $200 million across its opening weekend, from December 15-17. That would be slightly lower that the record set by 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' which took in $248 million across 4,134 movie theatres, but would still be considered a box office smash.

The $200 million figure would also make the film that with the biggest debut of the year, beating the current movie at the top of that list: Disney's live-action adaptation of their classic 'Beauty and the Beast'.
