Major video game news today, as Disney released some details about the upcoming third instalment of its successful franchise ‘Infinity’. The sandbox game will feature elements of the hugely anticipated ‘Star Wars’ movie The Force Awakens, in addition to several of the company’s other major franchises.

‘Infinity 3.0’, currently due for release in the third or fourth quarter of 2015, will contain some features connected to The Force Awakens, not due for release in cinemas until Christmas Day. It will also feature gameplay of scenes from the original trilogy and its three prequels.

This announcement took place just a few hours after Disney’s CEO Bob Iger stated that the merchandise surrounding The Force Awakens would be released slowly and over a long period of time leading up to the cinematic release, rather than all at once, according to Variety.

Disney also said that it will contain elements from other film franchises that the company owns, including Pixar’s Inside Out, which, like The Force Awakens, will not have been released in cinemas when the game is. You’ll also get to play as characters from Marvel creations like Iron Man and Avengers: Age of Ultron.

“’Disney Infinity’ is the only game where fans can play with Disney, Pixar, Marvel and ‘Star Wars’ characters together in one experience,” said president of Disney Interactive James Pitaro. “We worked closely with LucasFilm to deliver an authentic ‘Star Wars’ game experience, featuring some of the most iconic stories and characters from the past, present and future.”

‘Infinity 3.0’ is currently under development by Avalanche Software, in partnership with Ninja Theory, Sumo Digital, Studio Gobo and United Front Games. It will be released across a variety of gaming platforms, including Playstation 4, Xbox One and Wii U.
