Fact: Oscar-nominated A ROYAL AFFAIR filmmaker NIKOLAJ ARCEL is in talks to rewrite and direct a planned movie adaptation of the first novel in Stephen King's thriller series THE DARK TOWER. The Danish director has long been a fan of the books - he taught himself how to speak and read English so he could enjoy the stories in the author's native tongue, according to Deadline.com. Ron Howard had previously been tapped to bring The Dark Tower to life on the big screen but the deal with Universal Pictures fell through in 2011 and bosses at Sony Pictures subsequently picked up the rights to the franchise, which was first released in 1982.

The Star Trek filmmaker is in talks to take charge of the Tv project, about a divorced teacher who uses a time machine to try and prevent the assassination of former U.S. President John F. Kennedy in November, 1963. The planned series will be produced via his Bad Robot company, reports Deadline.com.

Fact: Horror writer Stephen King and his wife Tabitha have agreed to donate $3 million (£1.9 million) to a campaign to overhaul their hometown library in Bangor, Maine if $6 million (£3.75 million) is raised from other sources.

Fact: William Goldman, the man who adapted Stephen King's thriller Misery for the big screen has now reworked the story for the stage. The play will open at the Bucks County Playhouse in New Hope, Pennsylvania, beginning on 24 November (12).

Fact: Universal Pictures bosses have scrapped plans to adapt horror author Stephen King's The Dark Tower books. Last year (10) Ron Howard signed up to direct a trilogy of films and a TV series based on the 1982 book, but studio bosses were unable to confirm an acceptable budget by a 15 July (11) deadline.
