Steve Carell

Following the disastrous hack of Sony Pictures and the subsequent cancelled release of comedy movie The Interview, New Regency has taken the decision to scrap another project set in the controversial state. An untitled thriller - though going by the name Pyongyang - being developed by Gore Verbinski and set to star Steve Carell was due to go into production in March but will now be canned.

FoxcatcherSteve Carell [L] is likely to score an Oscar nomination for Foxcatcher

The movie, described a "paranoid thriller" was originally set up in October though sources say that under the current circumstances it makes no sense to move forward. Fox also declined to distribute the film, according to Deadline.

Channing Tatum Never Wants To Get In The Ring Again After Gruelling 'Foxcatcher' Role

Channing Tatum Mark Ruffalo Steve Carell Bennett Miller

It seems Channing Tatum is far happier flexing his enviable Hollywood body on a stripper's pole or pulling off some smooth moves on the dancefloor when it comes to movie roles, as his latest part as wrestler Mark Schultz has been his hardest yet.

The '22 Jump Street' star is hardly an idler having growing up playing all kinds of sport including martial arts, but that doesn't mean his new work out routine for his role as an Olympic grappler in 'Foxcatcher' was any more of an easy ride. 'I challenge anyone who thinks their sport is harder to come and try it', says Channing Tatum, who landed a college football scholarship as a high school graduate. 'This has been the most painful movie I have ever done. I never want to wrestle again.'

Foxcatcher - International Trailer

Mark Schultz (Channing Tatum) is brought to the Foxcatcher institute by multi-millionaire John du Pont (Steve Carell). Mark is a wrestler, and a good one at that. He confides in du Pont that he wants to be the world's best wrestler. Du Pont himself has his own motives - he wants to be the coach for the world's best wrestling team. But as training steadily creates friction between Mark, his brother Dave (Mark Ruffalo), and du Pont, it appears that not only are the athletes on edge, but their coach is actually becoming more and more mentally unstable.

Steve Carell's 'Alexander And The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day' Aims For Family Audiences

Steve Carell Jennifer Garner Dylan Minnette Bella Thorne Megan Mullally Jennifer Coolidge Donald Glover Dick Van Dyke

It's taken quite a while for a film adaptation of the beloved children's book to appear, perhaps because its title is rather cumbersome: Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. But there the full title is on posters (with commas) and across the screen (without them), although it could be argued that the story hasn't been adapted with quite as much reverence.

The cast of ‘Alexander And The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day’
‘Alexander And The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day’ is based on the book from 1972

Originally published in 1972, the award-winning book by Judith Viorst won a shelf-load of awards. The film adaptation, by first-time screenwriter Ron Lieber, flips the story around: now it's not Alexander who's having such an awful day: he has wished his bad luck on everyone around him instead.

Alexander And The Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day Review

Good

There's nothing wrong with this bright and goofy family comedy, but there's nothing much to it either. As a bit of mindless entertainment, the film is smart and funny enough to keep audiences entertained, spinning a swirling vortex of bad luck and wacky slapstick around one lively family. But it's utterly weightless, without even a hint of an edge, and anyone who loathes either nutty physical gags or sappy sentimentality should steer well clear.

Everyone in the audience can understand how Alexander (Ed Oxenbould) feels: he's fed up with the fact that no one notices that his life is just one humiliation after another, so on his 12th birthday he wishes that his family would have a taste of his misfortune. Sure enough, everything that can go wrong does. Dad Ben (Steve Carell) has to take the baby with him to an important job interview; mom Kelly (Jennifer Garner) has a work event go horribly wrong; teen brother Anthony (Dylan Minnette) struggles to make prom night special for his demanding-diva girlfriend (Bella Thorne); and middle sister Emile (Kerris Dorsey) gets ill on opening night of the school play she's starring in. On the other hand, Alexander's day isn't so bad, as he finally catches the eye of cute girl Becky (Sidney Fullmer).

The plot is laid out as a series of minor calamities that escalate to crazed proportions as the day goes on, but only until the screenwriter decides to have mercy on the characters and let them bond to face the mayhem. Frankly, this is such a wildly happy family that nothing about the film is believable: their problems exist strictly for laughs. Thankful, most of the set pieces are genuinely funny due to the up-for-it actors, who make the most of their characters and the connections between them. There's also a terrific stream of cameo roles for comedy aces like Megan Mullally (Will & Grace), Jennifer Coolidge (American Pie) and Donald Glover (Parks and Recreation). Dick Van Dyke even makes a witty appearance as himself.

'Foxcatcher': Why A Wrestling Movie Has Stolen The Limelight At Cannes

Steve Carell Channing Tatum Mark Ruffalo Vanessa Redgrave Sienna Miller

Murder, wrestling and the French Riviera don’t seem to go hand in hand, yet Steve Carell’s Foxcatcher has definitely won over the crowds and critics at Cannes Film Festival.

Foxcatcher
Channing Tatum and Steve Carell star in Foxcatcher.

Foxcatcher revolves around a prominent sports sponsor John du Pont (Carell), who suffered from paranoid schizophrenia and was convicted of murder in 1996 after he shot Olympic wrestling champion Dave Schultz (played by Mark Ruffalo). Named after the farm in which du Pont set up a wrestling gym and subsequently shot Dave, it is based on an autobiography by Mark Schultz, Dave’s brother. As such, the film also follows the glory and tragedy of Mark (Channing Tatum) who went on to win a gold medal at the Olympic Games and two at the World Championships in the 1980s.

Mark Schultz is an Olympic Gold Medallist wrestler who is often overlooked as his older brother Dave is renowned in the same sport. One day, Mark is invited to the luxurious home of sports sponsor John du Pont, who wishes to train up a team for the forthcoming 1988 Seoul Olympics at his own training facility. Mark is thrilled to be recognised for his talents for once, and begins to appreciate du Pont like a father. Unfortunately, it soon becomes clear that du Pont is not all he once appeared to be, being prone to increasingly volatile and erratic behaviour, and his support of Mark begins to get unhealthy. Not only that, but it seems he is now obsessed by the charismatic persona of Dave, and through jealousy and spiralling paranoia, tragedy of the ultimate kind is about to ensue.

Louis C.K's 'Tomorrow Night' Is Released Alongside 'Don't Torrent' Plea

Louis C.K. Steve Carell Amy Poehler J.B. Smoove

Louis C.K is an honest guy. At least, he seems to be an honest guy. Instead of implementing loads of anti-pirating measurements, he released his dormant film, Tomorrow Night with minimum hoo-ha, and accompanied it with a friendly reminder that pirating would likely stop him being to work in the way he does, and he'll probably stop doing Louie - and no one wants that to happen.

Louis CKPress: Louis C.K from his hit FX show, Louie

Why should we care? Well, because C.K is one of the most organic workers in comedy right now. He doesn’t do bad things, or things he considers bad, and he works really hard. Of course, pirating a silly big-budget action film and then buying C.K’s film doesn’t offer you repent – you dirty internet thief, but it does at least show support for the way in which Louis works. That’s enough gushing, for now.

Good News: Despicable Me 3 Coming 2017. Bad News: So Is New 'Grinch' Movie

Steve Carell

Great news for fans of yellow, overall-ed, banana creatures - Despicable Me 3 is in the pipeline. Unfortunately, it’s quite a long pipeline – on Wednesday, Universal announced the release of the animated feature for June 30, 2017, The Hollywood Reporter says. The news follows the extremely successful release of Despicable Me 2, which has earned more than $973 million globally to date.

Steve Carell, The Way Way Back Premiere
It's too early for cast announcements at this point, but Steve Carell will probably return for the third film.

Despicable Me 3 is part of a Universal’s packed animation calendar for the following years. A new adaptation of Doctor Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas has been scheduled for November 17, 2017. The film, based on the beloved kids book, will be directed by Pete Candeland from a script adapted by Michael LeSieur. This feature film adaptation will be released 17 years after the Ron Howard version, starring Jim Carrey and Taylor Momsen played in theaters - just in case you needed to feel old in comparison.

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues Review

Good

It's been nearly 10 years since we first met Ron Burgundy, and this sequel is just as random and silly as expected. It's also more like a series of referential gags than an actual movie comedy, and as with the original film the best bits are knowing jabs at absurdities of the news media. This time we're in the 1980s, so there's plenty to make fun of here.

Over the past decade, Ron (Ferrell) has married Veronica (Applegate), and they've taken a joint anchor job in New York, where they live with their son (Nelson). But when Veronica lands a coveted network news job, Ron has a meltdown. Drunk and unemployed, he's approached to work on a new station: a 24-hour cable news channel. Even though he's sure this crazy idea will never catch on, Ron re-assembles his old team (swaggering reporter Rudd, dazed weatherman Carell and goofy sports guy Koechner) to beat handsome anchor Jack Lime (Marsden) in the ratings. And Ron's offbeat, populist approach changes the news forever.

This comical exploration of how TV news has shifted from hard reporting to shameless audience pandering gives the film a whiff of depth, which helps make the comical moments a lot funnier. The screenplay is a series of sketch-comedy episodes that don't quite hang together. For example, you could delete an extended sequence in which Ron goes blind, nurses a shark to health and sings a big musical number, and the movie wouldn't change at all. But all of these sequences have an absurd genius behind them that often gets us laughing, sometimes in disbelief.

Plot Twist: Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson Tops Forbes Highest Grossing Actors List

Dwayne Johnson Robert Downey Jr Steve Carell Sandra Bullock Jennifer Lawrence

Let’s talk about how Dwayne Johnson was named the highest grossing actor of 2013. No seriously, you did not misread that. Thanks to profits from the incredibly successful Fast & Furious 6, The Rock has topped Forbes’ list of biggest earners for this year with his films making $1.3 bn this year. That’s cool, since Johnson seems like a pretty chilled and hardworking guy, etc.

Dwayne Johnson, Superstars for Sandy
That is what you would call a $1.3 billion smile.

But what about Robert Downey Jr. or F&F co-stars like Vin Diesel? Surely the man who starred in the highest grossing film of 2013 (Iron Man 3, in case you’ve spent most of this year in a cave with no wi-fi) must be somewhere around the top? That he is, in fact Downey took second place. This maybe because, while Iron Man 3 was a huge success at the box office, it was the actor’s only film this year, while Johnson starred in four, including blockbuster G.I. Joe: Retaliation and of course Fast & Furious 6.

The legend of San Diego's Channel 4 news team may have long since dissolved over the years, but anchors Ron Burgundy, Brian Fantana, Brick Tamland and Champ Kind are set to return as part of a brand new 24-hour news channel. In a bid to innovate newsreading and once again come out on top over Ron's wife and rival Veronica, they decide that they're going to give viewers the news they want to hear rather than what they need to. As usual, their antics involve the usual scandal and debauchery, putting their careers and tarnished reputations once again in the media's line of fire. No matter though, as these co-workers have each other's backs all the way.

Steve Carell Had Difficulty Filming 'Anchorman 2' Because Will Ferrell Was Too Funny For Him

Steve Carell Will Ferrell Christina Applegate Paul Rudd Olly Murs James Corden David Koechner

Actor Steve Carell had difficulty working on the 'Anchorman' sequel because he found Will Ferrell so funny it was ''almost impossible'' to work with him. The 51-year-old 'Despicable Me' actor apparently had no quarrels with immediately signing on for 'Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues', as the 2004 original was the "best fun" he's ever had. On the flip side, it made his job incredibly difficult, as he was almost unable to film certain scenes as he struggled to keep his composure.

Stop Throwing Money At Adam Sandler, He's Officially The Most Overpaid Actor

Adam Sandler Reese Witherspoon Eddie Murphy Steve Carell Nicolas Cage Matt Damon

What we’ve assumed was true for a long time has now been confirmed: Adam Sandler is the most overpaid actor in the world, yielding the least amount of cash for the money he earns. Forbes, who did the maths and put everything into a handy list for everyone to peruse, bestowed the unwanted gong upon Hollywood's so called funnyman. But don’t worry there’s no awards ceremony for an achievement like this, just sarcastic news stories, a few memes and a big bag of Cheese Puffs for the list's #1.

Adam Sandler'Hey Sandler! you stink!' someone might have said once

So let’s look at some numbers: his last three films returned an average of $3.40 for every $1 he was paid. Last year, Natalie Portman earned $42.70 per dollar according to Forbes' most profitable actors list, just to give you some context.

Local News Anchor Dresses Up & Acts Like Ron Burgundy For Live Telecast [Video]

Ron Burgundy, Will Ferrell's timeless comic creation and the star of the upcoming Anchorman sequel, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, has no shortage of fans and imitators. Paul Gerke, the sports reporter for Boise’s KIVI Channel 6 local television station is both a fan and imitator of San Diego's finest newscaster, and on Halloween he saw his opportunity not just to dress up as Burgundy, but give his best impression of him too.

The Anchorman sequel will be out in time for Christmas

On Thursday's (31 October) edition of the evening news, Gerke donned a classy suit, a thick moustache and (probably) a glass of scotch under his desk to create a piece of local TV gold. His sportscast was littered with Anchorman references too, with Gerke picking his teeth at the beginning of the segment, commenting that he has just eaten ribs, shamelessly promoting the new Dodge Durango (Burgundy appears in a new line of commercials for the vehicle) and cramming no shortage of quotes from the first film into his 5 minute segment. The video is a must see.
