Christian Bale + Aaron Sorkin + David Fincher = Amazing Steve Jobs Biopic

Christian Bale Aaron Sorkin David Fincher Steve Jobs

Christian Bale could play Steve Jobs in the forthcoming biopic directed by David Fincher and written by Aaron Sorkin. Though the writer-director team is enough to whet appetites, the addition of Oscar winner Bale to the mix basically means this movie cannot fail. Sort of.

'Jobs' Movie Panned, Wozniak Sticks Knife In: What Went Wrong?

Ashton Kutcher Steve Jobs

Ashton Kutcher has well and truly been "punk'd." As soon as photos surfaced of him in his uncanny Apple co-founder Steve Jobs get-up for the just-released Jobs biopic, it seemed like the movie could do no wrong when the protagonist completely looked the part. How wrong we were: after all the hype had died down, it seems as though Kutcher is the issue with the movie and it's time for the Dude Where's My Car? actor to face the music and accept the film stunk.

Ashton Kutcher
Ashton Kutcher's Performance As Steve Jobs Has Been Trashed Intensely.

The Guardian's Brian Moylan identifies that "the biggest problem with the movie is that it doesn't necessarily present anything real or true, but it presents the sort of Steve Jobs that people want to see." Although there are plenty of in-joke references for the drooling hoardes of Apple fans, it is remarked that these - and the regular complicated tech details - are "as exciting to non-tech people as hairbrushes are to a bald man."

Jobs Star Ashton Kutcher Hands Out Strange Job – Fantasy Football Assistant Manager

Ashton Kutcher Steve Jobs

Having starred in Jobs – maybe starred is a strong word considering the reviews – it’s clear where Ashton Kutcher’s mind is: Fantasy Football. Perhaps we’re getting a clearer picture of why he couldn’t capture the essence of a man considered a captain of industry before he died.

The actor admitted on Jimmy Kimmel Live that he gave one of his staff the job of looking after certain aspects of his Fantasy Football team, which, as is evidenced by Two and A Half Men, can make people do silly things. “I actually have a member of my staff who is dedicated to research and analysis in fantasy football,” the 35-year-old actor confessed to Jimmy Kimmel Thursday night.

Ashton Kutcher And Josh Gad Protest Too Much In Wake Of 'Jobs' Criticism

Ashton Kutcher Josh Gad Dermot Mulroney Matthew Modine Steve Jobs

Ashton Kutcher and Josh Gad have defended their latest film Jobs. The biopic has been heavily criticised in reviews. A number of critics have said the film is "excruciating and failing to entertain" (Slant) and "bland" (Variety). The latter comment is, by far, one of the most positive.

The Critics Have Spoken: "Jobs" Is Far Less Revolutionary Than Its Title Character

Ashton Kutcher Steve Jobs

Jobs – the biopic, tracking Steve Jobs’s rise from a free-spirited college dropout, to an undisputed giant of the tech industry, has come out to surprisingly good reviews. While most critics are hesitant to heap glowing praise onto the film, it isn’t the vapid, melodramatic disaster of a biopic that some were predicting from the onset.

Does Ashton Kutcher's 'Jobs' Live Up To Apple’s Impeccable Script?

Ashton Kutcher Steve Jobs Dermot Mulroney

Apple is famed for its increasingly innovative design, high build quality and improbably rise to the top of the technology ladder. The story of Steve Jobs – the man who brought the company into the 21st century having initially left them – was just waiting to be told.

But now it’s here, does it live up to Apple’s incredible standards? Ashton Kutcher plays the titular character, Mr. Jobs, who died in October 2011. Unfortunately, according to the critics, he hasn’t seem to have done his subject justice.

Ashton Kutcher Was Too Busy To Meet Apple's Steve Jobs

Ashton Kutcher Steve Jobs Jay Leno

Jobs, the Steve Jobs biopic, has been a long time in the making with its release date continually pushed back to August 2013. Ashton Kutcher landed the titular role and will play the co-founder of tech company Apple who died due to pancreatic cancer in 2011, aged 56. The movie's narrative will chart the story of Steve Jobs' ascension from college dropout into one of the most revered creative entrepreneurs of the 20th century, who brought products such as the iPod and iPhone to market domination. If you haven't seen the uncanny image of Jobs' and Kutcher's faces together, you can find it here courtesy of Digital Spy.

In an interview with host Jay Leno on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Kutcher discussed his regret that he didn't take up the opportunity to meet the Apple boss before his death, saying "I had an opportunity to meet him about six months before he passed away and I was working that day and couldn't go. In hindsight, I look back and think 'I had an opportunity to meet the Leonardo da Vinci of our generation' and I missed it. That really affected my decision to take on the role. The day that he died, for me it was almost like, I hear people talking about they knew where they were the day Kennedy died. For me I'll never forget the moment I heard he died."

Ashton Kutcher As Steve Jobs In JOBS Is "Uncanny"

Ashton Kutcher Steve Jobs Josh Gad

Aston Kutcher has been dismissed before as a one-trick pony, a handsome guy who plays pranks on people for money. It's not a bad place to be, when you put things in perspective, but he's been trying to step out of that mould, and if his performance in jOBS is anything to go by, he should be taken seriously as a 'proper' actor.

"If this story is going to get told, I want to get it told in a way that honors my hero," Kutcher told the audience at the Macworld trade show about reading the screenplay.  Actor Josh Gad stars in the film alongside Kutcher as Jobs' partner Steve Wozniak. "Ashton is going to blow a lot of people away. His performance was absolutely transformational," Gad told Us Weekly last November. "If he looked any more like Steve Jobs, I think it would just confuse a lot of people in thinking Steve Jobs never passed away. It's that uncanny."

The journey wasn't easy for Kutcher though, and his Jobs-like fruitarian diet landed him in trouble. "I ended up in the hospital two days before we started shooting the movie," Kutcher told the Associated Press. "I was like doubled over in pain, and my pancreas levels were completely out of whack, which was completely terrifying, considering everything."

Ashton Kutcher Highlights The Danger Of Fruitarianism

Ashton Kutcher Steve Jobs

The old cliche, 'too much of anything is bad for you', comes to mind. But it's only a cliche because it's true; something that Aston Kutcher found out the hard way after he ended up in hospital following his fruitarian diet.

The star - recently panned for his turn as Steve Jobs in jOBS - explained to USA Today, "I went to the hospital, like, two days before we started shooting the movie. I was, like, doubled over in pain." He was attempting to replicate Jobs' diet, which he adopted to help battle the pancreatic cancer that eventually took his life. "First of all, the fruitarian diet can lead to, like, severe issues," said Kutcher, who could acclimatise himself to the eating pattern without pancreatic issues of his own.

So why, then, is it such a bad idea to eat something generally considered healthy? Unlike the Notting Hill version of fruitarianism in which carrots are 'murdered', the diet Kutcher was following was eating just fruit and nothing else. Gaynor Bussell, a spokesman for the British Dietetic Association has the answers. "It's virtually impossible to get all the nutrients you need," explained Bussell. "You would miss out on essential fatty acids. One of the big ones is B12, and you can get some sort of anaemia if you don't get enough. And deficiencies in calcium, protein and iron would lead to tiredness and lethargy. You would be prone to osteoporosis. The immune function would probably be quite low. We have to have things from all the different food groups for a reason."

First Clip Of Ashton Kutcher As Steve Jobs Goes Viral

Ashton Kutcher Steve Jobs

Jobs (or jOBS as it is being stylised) staring Ashton Kutcher as Apple Computers co-founder Steve Jobs is to have it's world premiere at the Sundance film festival tonight (Jan 25), and as is the trend nowadays, the first clip of the film has gone viral already, eagerly awaiting what the internet-public have to it's say.

"How can someone know what they want if they've never even seen it?" booms Kutcher in the sneak peak, channeling his inner-Jobs - the man who introduced the world to all manner of things they didn't know they wanted during his time as Apple's head-honcho. How indeed. Well at tonight's premier we may get a little closer to seeing how things really happened and how Jobs and his Apple compatriot Steve Wozniak (Josh Gad) turned the world so Apple-friendly. At least, we'll get an impression of it, but certainly not the truth, as Wozniak has claimed.

After seeing the clip himself, Wozniak told gadget site Gizmondo the scene was "not close" to what really happened, saying, "we never had such interaction." The computer-whizz then went on to seemingly pan Kutcher's portrayal of Jobs, saying, "[The] Personalities are very wrong although mine is closer."

Sundance Premiere For Steve Jobs Movie: Will Ashton Kutcher Be "Inspiring"?

Ashton Kutcher James Woods Matthew Modine Steve Jobs

Ashton Kutcher stars in the lead role of the new Steve Jobs biopic and it has been reported the movie will get its premiere on the closing night of the Sundance Festival, before getting a wider cinema release. Steve Jobs is the man who co-founded Apple Inc. and became one of the most revered entrepeneurs in the modern world.

The movie will follow Steve Jobs’ life story, from college dropout, to globally successful businessman. Kutcher plays Jobs, whilst Dermot Mulrone takes the role of Mike Markkula, an investor and the second CEO of Apple. James Woods and Matthew Modine also star in the movie. Tom Ortenberg, the CEO of Open Road, told Hollywood Reporter “jOBS is certain to resonate with audiences, and we are thrilled to partner with Five Star Feature Films to bring this film to theaters. A spokesperson for Five Star added “We set out to find the perfect partners to present jOBS to audiences worldwide, and we feel we have found one with Open Road. They were as impressed as we were with Ashton Kutcher's inspiring and unforgettable performance as Steve Jobs and are excited to distribute the picture in the US.”

Given that Kutcher is better known for more lightweight entertainment such as the sitcom Two and a Half Men and – lest we should forget – the movie Dude Where’s My Car, he seemed to many to be an unlikely choice to play the role of the respected Steve Jobs. The critics, of course, will have their say very soon. The Sundance Festival 2013 takes place between January 17 – 27 in Park City, Utah.
