Steve Martin Is Preparing To Add Broadway Playwright To His Resume After Securing A 2016 Opening Date For His Bluegrass Musical With Collaborator Edie Brickell.
Bright Star, which premiered in San Diego, California in 2014, is set for a winter (15) run at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and now the stars will be heading to the New York stage in March (16).
The show, which is set in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, was written by actor/musician Martin, with Brickell as his lyricist. Some of the songs in the production featured on their 2013 album, Love Has Come for You.
Carmen Cusack, who has been leading the cast since Bright Star's launch, will make her Broadway debut in the play.
Revered director Walter Bobbie will take charge of the production, with A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder's Joey Parnes serving as producer.
Previews for Bright Star will begin on 7 March (16) ahead of a 31 March (16) launch.
Martin has never acted on Broadway, but he helped to produce a 2002 production of The Elephant Man.
