Matthew McConaughey

Golden Globes Glory: Last weekend's Golden Globe awards set hearts racing ahead of March's Oscars with plenty of deserving winners next to a few jaw-dropping snubs. 12 Years A Slave predictably came out on top with the big gong but a few unpredictabilities set award odds and Oscars speculation askew. Newbie comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine saw off rivals to claim two awards whilst Blue Jasmine's Cate Blanchett took the leading lady award alongside Dallas Buyers Club's  for the men.

Gravity's Alfonso Cuarón stole Best Director from Steve McQueen whilst Breaking Bad and Behind The Candelabra snatched the big TV awards. The surprise wins also made for some truly memorable speeches too, with Elisabeth Moss exclamation of "Oh s**t!" and Jacqueline Bisset's sweary ramble marking two particular highlights. Read about all the winners here.

The Oscars Promise: The excitement of the Globes alone would have been enough for us to contend with this week but we were hit with an awards double whammy when the nominations were announced for the upcoming Academy Awards. Click to find out this year's Best Picture noms. Yet again, 12 Years is looking strong with nine nominations but American Hustle and Gravity are tipped to lead the way with 10 each. Check out the Oscars' five most surprising snubs here.

The Oscar saw new Spike Jonze drama Her added to the roster of Best Picture whilst American Hustle's Christian Bale seems to have been favored in the leading actor category over Captain Phillips's Tom Hanks. The awards will feature the cream of Hollywood's veteran talent with Philomena's Dame Judi Dench and Nebraska's Bruce Dern and June Squibb looking strong in their categories.

Critics Choice Choose Victors: A possible Oscars pattern begins to emerge after this week's Globes and Critics' Choice Awards, the latter of which saw 12 Years rated Best Film again whilst Cate Blanchett and Matthew Mcconaughey also picking up the top prizes in their respective categories. Jared Leto, who entertained with a Matthew McConuaghey impression, and Lupita Nyong'o took the Best Supporting Actor awards, marking a win-back for the 12 Years actress after the Globes' equivalent prize went to Amy Adams. Find out who else won at the Critics' Choice Awards here.

NME Awards Favor Arctic Monkeys & Haim: The nominations for UK's alternative music awards, the NME awards, were released this week, strongly favoring British rockers Arctic Monkeys with eight noms and Californian sister trio Haim, who are up for six gongs. Whilst you're here, find out what happens when you mention Girls nudity to Dunham... not pretty!

Justin Bieber

However, Bieber is apparently more worried about the naughty pics they'll find...oops!

Kanye West Gets Violent Again: Rapper Kanye West has become the subject of a police enquiry after a teen he punched decided he'd press charges. The incident was sparked when the unnamed 18 year-old hurled racist abuse at West's fiancée Kim Kardashian, calling the reality TV star a "N-lover."
