It’s been over 20 years since they released their last studio album, but a new record from The Stone Roses could be coming our way later this year. The band, who reunited in 2011, will play four massive shows at Manchester's Etihad Stadium this June and according to The Mirror they're ready to release a new record to coincide with the gigs.

A source told the newspaper: “Ian Brown and the lads have been busy getting their next album ready. It will be album number three. It’s a long time coming but they feel the time is right now. They’ve been back in the studio. Everyone is very excited about it.”

When asked about the possibility of new Stone Roses material last year, bassist Mani teased fans, saying the group had been “working on a few bits”. A spokesperson for the band declined to comment to the Mirror on the most recent rumours.

The Stone Roses released their self-titled first album in 1989 and five years later came their second and so far last album, Second Coming. Two years later the band split, following the departure of founding member John Squire and drummer Reni.

In 2011 the band's original line-up, Ian Brown, John Squire, Mani and Reni, reunited for an extensive world tour, including three homecoming gigs at Manchester’s Heaton Park. This summer the band will headline Scotland’s T in the Park festival and play four sold-out shows at Manchester's Etihad Stadium in June.
