The first family image of Supergirl and Superman together has been unveiled, and it's also our first glimpse of the new Clark Kent's outfit. It's very similar to Henry Cavill's 'Man Of Steel' suit, though perhaps a little cleaner. It was designed by costume designer Kiersten Ronning, who also did Supergirl's outfit and also happened to work on the set of 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice'.

Ben Affleck Henry Cavill Batman Superman

After starring in the 2006 critical bomb Daredevil, Ben Affleck declared, "I've inoculated myself from ever playing another superhero!" But here he is back in a costume as the Dark Knight for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, director Zack Snyder and actor Henry Cavill's followup to 2013's Man of Steel.

Batman V Superman visits a darker side to both characters

So what drew Affleck back to the genre? "I thought the script and the themes it evokes were special," he says of Batman v Superman. "I liked the character. And I wanted to be in one of these movies that works!"

Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice - Official Trailer

What happens when two superheroes with vastly differing opinions come head to head? Well, not very well if Lex Luthor has anything to do with it. Superman believes Batman is a vigilante and the civil liberties of the people of Gotham are 'being trampled on' whilst Batman feels Superman's abilities are blown out of proportion by the media and is far from a fan of his superhero outfit.

Lex Luthor has enough power to manipulate this situation to his benefit and pitches both heroes against one another - Son of Krypton versus Bat of Gotham however, when his plan doesn't go exactly to plan he creates a monster to destroy both men - on the verge of destruction, Batman and Superman are joined by Wonder Woman, Aquaman and other superheroes on their quest to save their city from destruction.

Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice is directed by Zack Snyder and it's a precursor to The Justice League films - which are also written and directed by Snyder.

For Ben Affleck, The Road To Batman Was Long And Winding

Ben Affleck has been handed the keys to the Batmobile, picking up the torch from the excellent Christain Bale to portray Gotham’s troubled hero. At 41-years of age, the road to one of Hollywood’s most prestigious roles – made so by director Christopher Nolan and Bale – hasn’t been a smooth one for Affleck, who endured his fair share of bumps and crashes along the way.

"We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics' most enduringly popular super heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill and then some," Warner Bros President Greg Silverman said in a statement. "(Affleck) has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne," said Snyder. "I can't wait to work with him. (BBC)

Ben Affleck Is Batman! Actor To Star As Caped Crusader In Superman Sequel

Ben Affleck Henry Cavill Superman Batman

Ben Affleck has been chosen as the next actor to portray the immortal role of Batman in the upcoming sequel to this year's Superman epic Man of Steel. In a move that frankly no-one saw coming, the Daredevil actor has been picked above a bevy of more obvious candidates, including Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Josh Brolin, as former Caped Crusader Christian Bale couldn't be forced out of retirement despite a number of enormous offers.

Affleck's appointment was first announced via The Hollywood Reporter on Thursday (22 August), following the release of a statement from execs. at Warner Bros., with the studio's president of creative development and worldwide production, Greg Silverman, issuing a gushing appraisal of Affleck. He said, "We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics' most enduringly popular superheroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some. His outstanding career is a testament to his talent, and we know he and Zack will bring new dimension to the duality of this character."

'Superman: Man Of Steel' Sequel: Who Will Play Batman?

Zack Snyder Ryan Gosling Josh Brolin Joe Manganiello Max Martini Matthew Goode Superman Batman

The question on every DC fans lips since director Zack Snyder announced plans for the next Superman film, which will feature Batman, is who will play the caped crusader? Christian Bale, who starred in the Dark Knight trilogy, is definitely out of the running as he has no interest in reprising the role.

Here's what we know about the film so far: Snyder announced at last month's San Diego Comic-Con that a sequel is in the works and will star Henry Cavill as Superman. The script is currently being written by David Goyer, who wrote Man of Steel. The film is due to be released in cinemas in 2015, with filming scheduled to begin next year. Owing to the film's tight schedule, reports are suggesting Snyder's casting decisions will be revealed in the next few weeks.

Batman And Superman To Clash In... Toronto, Why? Ask The Taxman

Henry Cavill Superman Batman

What’s an aeon? We’re not 100% sure, but kids have arguing about who could win in a fight: Batman or Superman for loads of them. The news that this epic coming together of superheros is set to be filmed in Toronto due to tax reasons, though, takes the magic out of it somehow.

Perhaps don’t show this to your thirteen-year-old.

Henry Cavill: "It's 'Essential' Lois Lane Knows Clark Kent As Superman"

Henry Cavill Ryan Gosling Chris Pine Superman

Henry Cavill has given the first hint at the possible plot direction for the Batman vs Superman movie, telling io9.com that Lois Lane must discover Clark Kent's secret for the franchise to remain realistic.

"...if we're trying to base it [on] reality, there's no way that Lois has these direct interactions with Superman, and then doesn't recognize Clark sitting next to her in the office," Cavill quite rightly asserted at Comic-Con, "If she falls in love with Superman, and she's ignoring a guy who looks just like Superman, behaves just like him, and has the same kind of mannerisms and behavior, then what does that say about Lois? I like this relationship. She saves him just as much as he saves her."

Has Cavill just hit the nail on the head? It's an issue that has plagued superhero movies for years. In the modern age of movies, filmmakers simply cannot treat audiences like idiots any longer. Lois Lane knows Clark Kent is Superman. She does. So let's see it play out on screen.

As The Batman & Superman Crossover Is Announced, Here's Some Other Superhero Cross-Overs Hollywood Should Consider Next

Henry Cavill Joseph Gordon-Levitt Zack Snyder Superman Batman

At the San Diego Comic Con International this weekend, Man of Steel director Zack Snyder made the entire conventional - and pretty much everyone else in the world who was't able to show up to the four-day event - simultaneously jump for joy with the news that a Superman and Batman will cross paths when the sequel to the Man of Steel is released in 2015.

Henry Cavill
Henry Cavill will be back as Superman

The announcement really did a number on Marvel's big reveal; the title of the next Avengers movie (Avengers: Age of Ultron), but now that the door is well and truly open for big name superheroes to cross paths, who knows what could happen next. With the Avengers already out there as a major motion picture and Gardians of the Galaxy and a Justice League movie coming soon, we can hopefully expect to see more and more superheroes all in one movie. Until then, here's what we hope/pray we can see in the not-so-distant future.

Zack Snyder Confirms That A Superman & Batman Movie Will Be Happening

Batman Superman Henry Cavill Zack Snyder Christian Bale

One of the biggest rumours to be circulating around this years San Diego Comic-Con International was the potential big screen team up with two of the most famous superheroes of all; Batman and Superman. These rumours were confirmed towards the end of the convention when Man of Steel director Zack Snyder told an eager audience that he and a team of others are currently working on the script for the superhero crossover, with Warner Brothers going on to confirm their involvement in the project shortly after the announcement.

Henry Cavill
Henry Cavill will reprise his role as the Man of Steel

Much to the delight of many of the comic book fans at the San Diego convention, and indeed to the delight of superhero fans the world over, a Batman/Superman crossover film has long be awaited and following the huge success of Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy and this years equally impressive Superman re-boot, Man of Steel, an eventual collaboration between the heroes had been expected. In the DC comic universe, the two have teamed up on more than one occasion, beginning with a slew of friendly team-ups in the 1950's to the 70's, before Frank Miller's The Dark Knight comics changed the complexion of their relationship to an antagonistic one where the two heroes barely see eye-to-eye on anything. The big screen hook-up will probably take the latter route.

Superman And Batman Set To Team Up In 2015 'Man Of Steel' Sequel

Warner Bros. announced, during their Comic-Con panel appearance, that Henry Cavill would be reprising his role as Superman. However Batman will also be dropping in to lend a helping hand. It will be the first time the caped heroes have appeared together on the big screen.

Many comic-book fans have welcomed the announced as it is a step towards such DC 'Avengers-like' teams as the Justice League. Marvel's superheroes are considerable more integrated with references to the various Avengers in their individual films. A Justice League movie was rumoured to be in production earlier this year, following the success of Superman: Man of Steel, however Cavill confirmed no such film had been mentioned to him. Should the Justice League movie be shot, it would feature a team of superheroes including Superman, Batman, The Green Lantern, Wonder Woman and Aquaman.

Critics may have universally panned Adam Sandler's latest comedic contribution yet it's somehow managed to beat the other new release, Pacific Rim, in the US Weekend Box Office (12th-14th July). Despicable Me 2 topped the Box Office charts for the second week in a row.

Henry Cavill: The Justice League Movie "Needs Building Up"

Henry Cavill Batman Superman Christian Bale

The Justice League (DC's version of Marvel's Avengers) movie will not, speculating from what Henry Cavill said in a recent interview, be in cinemas in the near future.

Should such a film be made would we see Cavill as Superman saving the world (or possibly the universe) alongside Christian Bale's Batman and Ryan Reynolds's Green Lantern?  They would, of course, be supported by a team of other less known superheroes: Wonder Woman, Martian Man-hunter, Flash and Aquaman.

Man Of Steel Trailer Hits - Will Superman Be The New Dark Knight? [Trailer & Pictures]

This summer will see a new Superman movie, Man of Steel, attempt to supersede the Batman Dark Knight trilogy as king of the comic book movie. No mean feat, but judging by the trailer, it’s got a good chance.

We’re not saying there haven’t been any good superhero films since Batman; the Iron Man franchise is strong, as are The Avengers movies, and The Wolverine is showing promise, but The Dark Knight stands as the saviour of the genre, and set the standards to which other films are judged. This epic trailer for Man of Steel takes us on a journey. From Superman’s journey to earth, to that incident on a bus, to saving humankind from the evil that threatens to destroy it. At 3 minutes, this is a ‘make a coffee’ trailer, so do that and watch. And let us know what you think! Either way, with the Superman movies so far being far from satisfactory, this will be a welcome addition to the franchise.

'Superman' Rights Claim Denied By Judge; Warner Still In Control Of Character

Superman

Warner were breathing a sigh of relief in court yesterday (October 17, 2012) after an attempt by the heirs of 'Superman' co-creator Joseph Shuster to reclaim 50% on the character was rejected by judges. 'Superman' has generated more than $500 million for Warner Bros at the box office in the USA and billions more from various affiliated merchandise and television shows including 'Smallville'.

Yet if Warner had lost this case in Los Angeles, they would've had to forfeit the use of certain key aspects of the 'Superman' story, including his super strength and speed, his secret identity as Clark Kent, his girlfriend Lois Lane unless they'd reached a new expensive agreement with the Schuster family. In short, he'd just be a pretty average bloke walking around in a cape and a onesie trying to start fights with burglars but most likely getting beaten up and ridiculed by the neighbourhood for his outlandish garb. Not so super at all.

Thankfully for them though, the judge ruled that an agreement signed between the two parties in 1992 was still binding, saying "The court finds that the 1992 agreement, which represented the Shuster heirs' opportunity to renegotiate the prior grants of Joe Shuster's copyrights, superseded and replaced all prior grants of the Superman copyrights. The 1992 agreement thus represents the parties' operative agreement and... is not subject to termination." A shame, though, that they didn't at least lose the right to allow him to wear his underpants outside his suit. No one needs to see those.
