Tyler Hoechlin Superman Melissa Benoist

It had to happen eventually! We'll finally get to see a new incarnation of Superman for the 'Supergirl' TV series as season 2 arrives on our screens this fall. He'll be portrayed by Tyler Hoechlin, who's best known for playing Derek Hale in 'Teen Wolf'.

The first family image of Supergirl and Superman together has been unveiled, and it's also our first glimpse of the new Clark Kent's outfit. It's very similar to Henry Cavill's 'Man Of Steel' suit, though perhaps a little cleaner. It was designed by costume designer Kiersten Ronning, who also did Supergirl's outfit and also happened to work on the set of 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice'.

Ben Affleck Henry Cavill Batman Superman

After starring in the 2006 critical bomb Daredevil, Ben Affleck declared, "I've inoculated myself from ever playing another superhero!" But here he is back in a costume as the Dark Knight for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, director Zack Snyder and actor Henry Cavill's followup to 2013's Man of Steel.

Batman V Superman visits a darker side to both characters

So what drew Affleck back to the genre? "I thought the script and the themes it evokes were special," he says of Batman v Superman. "I liked the character. And I wanted to be in one of these movies that works!"

Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice - Official Trailer

What happens when two superheroes with vastly differing opinions come head to head? Well, not very well if Lex Luthor has anything to do with it. Superman believes Batman is a vigilante and the civil liberties of the people of Gotham are 'being trampled on' whilst Batman feels Superman's abilities are blown out of proportion by the media and is far from a fan of his superhero outfit.

Lex Luthor has enough power to manipulate this situation to his benefit and pitches both heroes against one another - Son of Krypton versus Bat of Gotham however, when his plan doesn't go exactly to plan he creates a monster to destroy both men - on the verge of destruction, Batman and Superman are joined by Wonder Woman, Aquaman and other superheroes on their quest to save their city from destruction.

Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice is directed by Zack Snyder and it's a precursor to The Justice League films - which are also written and directed by Snyder.

For Ben Affleck, The Road To Batman Was Long And Winding

Ben Affleck has been handed the keys to the Batmobile, picking up the torch from the excellent Christain Bale to portray Gotham’s troubled hero. At 41-years of age, the road to one of Hollywood’s most prestigious roles – made so by director Christopher Nolan and Bale – hasn’t been a smooth one for Affleck, who endured his fair share of bumps and crashes along the way.

"We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics' most enduringly popular super heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill and then some," Warner Bros President Greg Silverman said in a statement. "(Affleck) has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne," said Snyder. "I can't wait to work with him. (BBC)

As The Batman & Superman Crossover Is Announced, Here's Some Other Superhero Cross-Overs Hollywood Should Consider Next

Henry Cavill Joseph Gordon-Levitt Zack Snyder Superman Batman

At the San Diego Comic Con International this weekend, Man of Steel director Zack Snyder made the entire conventional - and pretty much everyone else in the world who was't able to show up to the four-day event - simultaneously jump for joy with the news that a Superman and Batman will cross paths when the sequel to the Man of Steel is released in 2015.

Henry Cavill
Henry Cavill will be back as Superman

The announcement really did a number on Marvel's big reveal; the title of the next Avengers movie (Avengers: Age of Ultron), but now that the door is well and truly open for big name superheroes to cross paths, who knows what could happen next. With the Avengers already out there as a major motion picture and Gardians of the Galaxy and a Justice League movie coming soon, we can hopefully expect to see more and more superheroes all in one movie. Until then, here's what we hope/pray we can see in the not-so-distant future.

Henry Cavill: The Justice League Movie "Needs Building Up"

Henry Cavill Batman Superman Christian Bale

The Justice League (DC's version of Marvel's Avengers) movie will not, speculating from what Henry Cavill said in a recent interview, be in cinemas in the near future.

Should such a film be made would we see Cavill as Superman saving the world (or possibly the universe) alongside Christian Bale's Batman and Ryan Reynolds's Green Lantern?  They would, of course, be supported by a team of other less known superheroes: Wonder Woman, Martian Man-hunter, Flash and Aquaman.

Man Finds Superman Comic Worth $100K+ Whilst Renovating Abandoned House

Superman

A man stumbled across a geek goldmine while renovating an abandoned house on the outskirts of Minneapolis this week, with Minnesotan David Gonzales finding the Holy Grail of comic books among the rumble: the Action Comics No. 1 from 1938, which features the first ever appearance from Superman.

Gonzalez found the comic mixed in with a bundle of newspapers that were being used to insulate the wall of a house he was renovating in the Minnesota small town near Minneapolis. Upon stumbling on the comic he found it to be in an extraordinary worn-out state, but endeavoured to research the comic to see if it might still be worth anything, and it was. The research confirmed that despite being in a state of disrepair it was still a valuable item, although not as valuable as it could have been.

He presented his finding to the New York-based online auctioneer ComicConnect.com, who determined the comic to be a 1.5 on a 10-point scale of value. Still, despite the low ranking, the rarity of the find was so much that Gonzalez still looks to pick up over $100K for his find. As of Friday (May 24), bidding on the comic stood at $127,000, with bidding due to close on June 11.

Man Of Steel Trailer Hits - Will Superman Be The New Dark Knight? [Trailer & Pictures]

This summer will see a new Superman movie, Man of Steel, attempt to supersede the Batman Dark Knight trilogy as king of the comic book movie. No mean feat, but judging by the trailer, it’s got a good chance.

We’re not saying there haven’t been any good superhero films since Batman; the Iron Man franchise is strong, as are The Avengers movies, and The Wolverine is showing promise, but The Dark Knight stands as the saviour of the genre, and set the standards to which other films are judged. This epic trailer for Man of Steel takes us on a journey. From Superman’s journey to earth, to that incident on a bus, to saving humankind from the evil that threatens to destroy it. At 3 minutes, this is a ‘make a coffee’ trailer, so do that and watch. And let us know what you think! Either way, with the Superman movies so far being far from satisfactory, this will be a welcome addition to the franchise.

Superman Comic Delayed Due To Anti-Gay Controversy

Superman

Increased pressure on the anti-gay campaigner Chris Sprouse, who is public critic of gay marriage, has lead him to step down from the Superman project, delaying the comic-book.

DC were heavily criticized for hiring Sprouse in the first place, given his views. "It took a lot of thought to come to this conclusion, but I've decided to step back as the artist on this story," Sprouse said in a statement released Tuesday. "The media surrounding this story reached the point where it took away from the actual work, and that's something I wasn't comfortable with. My relationship with DC Comics remains as strong as ever and I look forward to my next project with them." The comic-book world is moving towards equality and forward thinking. Judge Dredd’s sexuality was recently questioned, and the Green Lantern was rebooted as a proud homosexual. “We fully support, understand and respect Chris’s decision to step back from his Adventures of Superman assignment… Chris is a hugely talented artist, and we’re excited to work with him on his next DC Comics project. In the meantime, we will re-solicit the story at a later date when a new artist is hired,” said DC in a statement.

Warner Bros Retain Commercial Control Over Superman

Superman Henry Cavill

What’s the biggest Superman news of 2013? The new film called Man of Steel starring Henry Cavill as the red-caped-hero, due for release on June 14? WRONG, it’s the court case won today by Warner Bros.

In winning the case, Jerome Siegel's heirs must abide by a 2001 letter accepting Warner's offer for their 50% share of Superman. Superman's co-creators, Joe Shuster and Siegel, have been battling higher compensation for the comic book creation for years. "The court's decision paves the way for the Siegels finally to receive the compensation they negotiated for and which DC has been prepared to pay for over a decade," said a statement from Warner Bros, on behalf of its DC Comics division. "We are extremely pleased that Superman's adventures can continue to be enjoyed across all media platforms worldwide for generations to come." Judge Stephen Reinhardt, of the 9th US Circuit of Appeals, wrote both parties "had resolved the last outstanding point in the deal during a conversation on Oct 15, 2001". He added the letter "accurately reflected the material terms they had orally agreed to on that day,"

Both sides had claimed the ability, under a provision of copyright law, to reclaim rights previously granted to Warner Bros. The studio argued, with ultimate success, that its 2001 agreement, though never memorialized in a formal contract, obviated those "termination rights."

Man Of Steel To Be Shown In 3D Next Year

Superman Zack Snyder

Just in case two different ways of experiencing the sure-to-be lavish special effects of Man Of Steel wasn’t enough for your eyes, Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures announced yesterday (November 7) that they are to release the film in 3D in some select movie theatres. Get digging those weird looking plastic glasses out, readers!

Man Of Steel, the latest in the Superman franchise, is going to star Henry Cavill in the famous cape, alongside Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne and Russell Crowe among others. So that’ll be nice seeing them in ultra-high definition eh? Director Zack Snyder certainly seems pretty pumped about it: “The film is going to be a visually exciting experience in all formats: 2D, 3D and IMAX. Anticipating how audiences today embrace 3D, we designed and photographed the movie in a way that would allow Man of Steel to captivate those movie goers, while respecting fans who prefer a more traditional cinematic experience,” he said in a statement. “We’ve taken great measures to ensure the film and the story come first, and 3D is meant as an enhancement.”

We’ve heard that before, with the The Hobbit the latest to currently worry people that the story is going to fail thanks to the focus on effects. Hopefully Man Of Steel will get it right.

'Superman' Rights Claim Denied By Judge; Warner Still In Control Of Character

Superman

Warner were breathing a sigh of relief in court yesterday (October 17, 2012) after an attempt by the heirs of 'Superman' co-creator Joseph Shuster to reclaim 50% on the character was rejected by judges. 'Superman' has generated more than $500 million for Warner Bros at the box office in the USA and billions more from various affiliated merchandise and television shows including 'Smallville'.

Yet if Warner had lost this case in Los Angeles, they would've had to forfeit the use of certain key aspects of the 'Superman' story, including his super strength and speed, his secret identity as Clark Kent, his girlfriend Lois Lane unless they'd reached a new expensive agreement with the Schuster family. In short, he'd just be a pretty average bloke walking around in a cape and a onesie trying to start fights with burglars but most likely getting beaten up and ridiculed by the neighbourhood for his outlandish garb. Not so super at all.

Thankfully for them though, the judge ruled that an agreement signed between the two parties in 1992 was still binding, saying "The court finds that the 1992 agreement, which represented the Shuster heirs' opportunity to renegotiate the prior grants of Joe Shuster's copyrights, superseded and replaced all prior grants of the Superman copyrights. The 1992 agreement thus represents the parties' operative agreement and... is not subject to termination." A shame, though, that they didn't at least lose the right to allow him to wear his underpants outside his suit. No one needs to see those.
