Zayn Malik has opened up about collaborating with his girlfriend's pal Taylor Swift on the new single 'I Don't Wanna Live Forever' from the soundtrack to 'Fifty Shades Darker', revealing that the popstar was eager to get on board after hearing the unfinished version.

It wasn't exactly difficult for Zayn to bring Taylor on board given that his supermodel girlfriend Gigi Hadid is a part of the 'Bad Blood' singer's squad (alongside the movie's star Dakota Johnson), but it seems she was more than enthusiastic about the project when the producer and Grammy-winning songwriter Jack Antonoff played her the semi-completed product.

'We were kind of in separate places when I mentioned the idea to her', Zayn revealed during an interview on the 'Elvis Duran and The Morning Show' yesterday (December 13th 2016). 'I spoke to her on the phone and she heard the song because Jack had played it to her. So she really liked it and she went in the studio the next day.'

'I Don't Wanna Live Forever' was co-written by Taylor, Jack and Sam Dew and reached number one on the US iTunes Chart upon its release on December 9th. 'The interesting thing was [Taylor's] actually friends with Gi, so she already reached out because Jack had just played her the song anyway, just because we'd done it together and she really liked it', Zayn added.

The song is the first new thing Taylor has released since her 2014 album '1989'. Many hoped that her headline grabbing love life earlier this year spelled the beginning of a new album to continue her pattern of October biennial releases. But when October came and went without so much as a hint of new material, fans were left wondering what to expect.

'Fifty Shades of Grey' sequel 'Fifty Shades Darker' starring Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan is set to hit theatres on February 10th 2017.
