The Dirty Projectors Bitte Orca Album

Already hailed as 'the best album of the year' by some critics, Dirty Projectors Bitte Orca is a record that certainly doesn't really require much more outside ammunition. Whilst I might kindly refrain from any 'best album of the year' claims, Bitte Orca's hype machine isn't likely to stop right here.

With bewildering female harmonies alongside David Longstreth's distinctive croon, elements of rock, pop and R & B bedded into in bright, lively arrangements and strong lyric writing, this New York outfit have created a record that not only demands the listener's attention, but achieves the difficult task of making the unconventional seem conventional.

From the uplifting chorus in 'Temecula Sunrise', the R & B delights of 'Stillness of the Move', the orchestral balladry of 'Two Doves' or the sweet pop goodness in 'No Intentions', Longstreth has crafted an album bursting with potential highlights. Bitte Orca's success might initially seem strange in the sense that the songs don't really carry strong emotional impact, but regular inspection reveals an array of clever, heart-warming/melancholic lyricism after all.

It's not very often that you get the feeling that an album can only get stronger with each and every listen, but in Dirty Projectors Bitte Orca you have a wonderful summertime record that certainly fits that very description. Excellent.
