Morecombe quartet The Heartbreaks are set to release their brand new EP 'Hand On Heart' on February 4th 2013 alongside a single of the same name and an accompanying video. It follows on from their successful debut album 'Funtimes'.
The video was filmed at The Pool in London on October 26th 2012 as it mentions at the start and features the band playing the song alongside some female cellists and violinists. It's an upbeat track, albeit very 'stringy' with its use of at least four different string instruments including cello and violin as mentioned as well as the usual indie staples of guitar and bass. It's anthemic, with a catchy chorus and low, lingering vocals courtesy of frontman Matthew Whitehouse.
The band; who are Matthew, Joseph Kondras, Ryan Wallace and Chris Deakin; have teamed up with The Auteurs' James Banbury who helped arrange the new material and producer Tristan Ivemy who has previously worked with Frank Turner and The Holloways. Lead vocalist Matthew has his own ideas about the use of strings in this EP. 'We've always had a kind of intrinsic sense of drama, but with the addition of strings we were able to truly articulate a feeling of being widescreen, cinematic', he said. 'Rather than merely 'sounding big', we wanted to make music that. was melodic, bold, elegiac... Something conceptual that would. take our music beyond its usual guitar and bass sound.'
