Pete Doherty Performs At Anti-Le Pen Rally In Paris

Pete Doherty The Libertines

Pete Doherty has performed at a protest rally in Paris this week, staged to warn about the “threat” posed by far-right presidential candidate Marine Le Pen, ahead of the crucial elections this weekend.

The Libertines and Babyshambles frontman, 38, has lived in France for several years on and off in his life, and was among 30 musicians and dozens of other entertainment groups who performed at an anti-racism rally organised by French youth groups at the Place de la Republique in the French capital on Thursday (May 4th).

STV reported the same day that Doherty took the opportunity to address the placard-waving crowd, and said that Le Pen’s hardline proposals for immigration policy were “not some distant threat, you know. It’s like a shadow at the gate.”

Archaeological Discovery Will Not Prevent 'T In The Park' Go-Ahead

T In The Park Kasabian The Libertines Noel Gallagher

The recent archaeological discovery at the new site of the T In The Park festival will not prevent the weekend-long event from going ahead, experts have confirmed.

Contractors preparing the site near Strathallan Castle came across what archaeological experts believe to be a 3,000 year old roundhouse, and works were immediately put on hold while the structure was examined.

The festival’s organisers, DF Concerts, had feared that the discovery would force them to delay or perhaps cancel this year’s festival, due to be held in July. Archaeological discoveries frequently hold back construction projects all over the world.

While it may have been one of the most anticipated reunions of the year, The Libertines are still proving to be as chaotic and unpredictable as they were in The Good Old Days. The cult band, consisting of frontmen and guitarists Pete Doherty and Carl Barat, along with drummer Gary Powell and bassist John Hassall, reunited this summer for a string of high profile festival dates across Europe.

Pete Doherty's £500k Blood Paintings

Pete Doherty Babyshambles Kate Moss The Libertines

A collection of artwork by Pete Doherty featuring the singer's own blood is to go on sale in London next week.

The controversial Babyshambles frontman could make £500,000 from the sale of 14 paintings and several prints when his Bloodworks exhibition opens at Notting Hill's Bankrobber gallery on Tuesday May 15th.

Doherty's blood-spattered canvasses are expected to fetch £50,000 each, with the other works and prints priced at £20,000 and £1,000 each respectively.

Last month Doherty, 28, teamed up on stage with former Libertines bandmate Carl Barat at one of the singer's Hackney Empire gigs.

But his friend told the Sunday Mirror that does not think the Kate Moss' junkie lover "will ever change".

"I love Pete like a brother and I am working with him again," Barat said. "But he could end up dead in a few years if he doesn't sort himself out."

Pete Doherty Boasts About His Former Career As A Rent Boy And Drug Dealer To Fuel His Addictions

Pete Doherty The Libertines Babyshambles

Pete Doherty, formerly of the band The Libertines, chose to reveal his past experiences as a prostitute and drug dealer in order to fuel his various addictions. Before becoming famous with The Libertines and having enough money to fund his cocaine and heroin addictions, Doherty worked as a rent boy and, on at least one occasion, robbed one of his gay clients after tying him up in his Chelsea home.

While now working as frontman for the band Babyshambles (having been kicked out of The Libertines for allowing his addictions to escalate to the point where he appeared on stage intoxicated), Doherty admits that he used to hide bundles of cash in his fridge in order to set up drug deals.
