The Libertines have announced a string of small live dates to celebrate the release of their new album Anthems For Doomed Youth on September 11th. The band will play five shows over the course of the week, with the first taking place on Monday (September 6th) at the Academy in Glasgow.

They will then hit Nottingham’s Rock City on September 7th, followed by Bristol’s O2 Academy, then London’s Electric Ballroom before finishing on September 11th at Manchester’s Ritz. The small shows are the band’s first club gigs since 2004.

Tickets will go on sale on Friday ( September 4th) at 10am, but fans who have pre-ordered the band’s new album will have access to pre-sale tickets from Wednesday (September 2nd). The shows continue the band’s series of events leading up to the release of their long awaited third album Anthems For Doomed Youth.

To promote the album they are currently taking over a charity shop in London’s Camden, which has been renamed the ‘Bucket Shop’ until September 4th. There is also a week of celebratory ‘shenanigans" entitled ‘Over The Railings’ happening at the Dublin Castle pub in Camden over the next few days.

At the weekend the band played at storming set at Reading Festival, featuring old and new tracks, during their heading appearance. Writing in The Telegraph, Rebecca Hawke, described the set as, ‘chaotically triumphant’, while adding that ‘the connection between Doherty and fellow frontman Carl Barât seemed stronger than ever.’

Opening their set with 'Horror Show’ from their debut album Up the Bracket, the band played classics tracks such as ‘Can't Stand Me Now’ and ’Time For Heroes’, while showcasing new songs from Anthems For Doomed Youth including recent single 'Gunga Din’.
