The blaze destroyed the former Beaver Lutheran Church in Beavertown, Pennsylvania. Jones lived in the area for 20 years and had bought the church with plans to renovate it.
Jones died in 2012 after a heart attack, but last year (15), Monkees devotee Cathy Whitehead bought the property and began planning to turn his old church into a museum and memorial for Jones.
However early on Tuesday (11Oct16) the historic landmark, which was built in 1880, was destroyed by a fearsome inferno.
According to Pennsylvania's ABC27 news, firefighters attended the blaze and eventually brought it under control. No one was harmed in the fire.
In an interview with local news website Penn Live last year (15), Whitehead explained she had bought the property after receiving an insurance payout after a fire destroyed her New Jersey home.
In the interview she said she would ban smoking on the property because, "I don't want to go through another fire."
